Mounjaro side effects - positive experiences?

CouldIBeAnymoreOuting · 30/01/2025 13:08

I'm looking to start Mounjaro in February but I am emetophobic and a little terrified of side effects. I will normally avoid any pills that list nausea / sickness as a side effect, so Mounjaro feels rather daunting.

Looking for truthful accounts of how your experience has been, how manageable side effects have been, when they were worst, any tips, etc.

There are millions of threads about MJ but essentially it was a good experience for 7 months. I had a bit of nausea and indigestion at times but this was managed by eating small amounts frequently and avoiding big meals.

The only times I was sick was when I ate rich food or too much in a restaurant. So just take it easy. Also take your time increasing your dose. Stick at 2.5’g if it’s working and do a months at 3.75mg rather than going straight from 2.5mg to 5 mg.

Go for it!

RagzRebooted · 30/01/2025 13:11

I've had a lot of nausea but haven't actually been sick once. It's been worth it, I'm 5 stone down.

vix3rd · 30/01/2025 13:15

I can honestly say I've had very little in the way of side effects. I've felt sick exactly once & I used to get indigestion before anyway so I just take a rennie.

I did get a rash about 5 weeks in but I read online it said take antihistamines & it should pass as your body gets used to the meds & it has.

I have noticed that my skin condition has been much better since taking it.

Unfortunately everyone is different and the different strengths effect people differently.
I'm 23 shots in(I think) 1 2.5 pen 2 5mg pens and now on 7.5, 2nd pen.
I have not felt sick once, if that's any encouragement for you.
I have been constipated a few times but have found solutions and realised my water intake was too low sometimes.
A few times on this 7.5 I've struggled to eat the 1st couple days after my shot, not for feeling sick just felt bloated and full..

Other than that it's been a good journey, started at 18 stone 6 and now I'm 13 stone 13 and still going..

wizzywig · 30/01/2025 13:17

I haven't had any side effects

Goinghome2 · 30/01/2025 13:29

Just taken 9th dose.
One headache
Bit of lightenheadness after a long walk
Burpyness for a few days
Thats it

Positive side effects
Lost 1.5stone
No more knee pain
No more pressure on my bladder
Mentally quiet and positive

Highly recommend this treatment

Oreosareawful · 30/01/2025 13:32

I've had minimal side effects. A bit of nausea, a bit of indigestion- well worth the 3.5 stone I've lost so far.

I've not been sick once.

WeAllHaveWings · 30/01/2025 13:34

Never felt nauseous or sick.

Couple of random days with diarrhea, constipation more frequently but didn't need to take anything specific for it.

Bit of fatigue the first 2-3 weeks for a day or two after injection. Most annoying is hair thinning, but fingers crossed that is temporary.

Everyone will vary, there is no way to know if you will be impacted by side effects. Some can be fairly well managed, ask your pharmacist to prescribe anti sickness tablets so you have them on standby if needed. I think eating little and often and minimising fatty, high sugar, bulky foods will help minimise risk too.

fourquenelles · 30/01/2025 13:56

Been on jabs since middle of October and moved slowly from 2.5mg to 5 mg. My side effects have included a little constipation (I still don't drink enough water) and the most amazing sulphur burbs. Fingers crossed I haven't had any sickness/faintness/rashes. I am losing a steady 2 lbs a week. Not feeling hungry all of the time and eating proper real portions due to suppressed appetite is life changing.

CouldIBeAnymoreOuting · 30/01/2025 15:08

Thanks all. This has reassured me somewhat! 90kgs with insulin resistance, PCOS and joint pain so suspect that mounjaro could be good for me to try.

crumbsonmyface · 30/01/2025 15:18

Hi, as a fellow pcos sufferer, it has been amazing, so I would highly recommend.

I've been on it since early October, lost 21lb and have not thrown up a single time.

Mild symptoms I've personally experienced: maybe mild upset stomach once or twice, tiredness, and light headedness in the beginning. More serious side effects: high anxiety, palpitations, low sugar hypo.

I know side effects can be off putting, but this is genuinely the best thing I've done for myself in years x

KeepinOn · 30/01/2025 15:21

Go slow and stay low with your dosing. I've been on it since July and haven't increased month by month, I've stayed on a dosing that works well for me, and doesn't have any big side effects.

frostydaytoday · 30/01/2025 15:26

My only bad side effects are headaches when I don't eat, and nausea if I eat really fatty / oily food

I usually eat nuts / suck hard boiled sweets if I feel nauseous

Positive apart from weight loss has been head space to think about other things not food

HansHolbein · 30/01/2025 15:26

I don’t have anything serious or debilitating to report. Few headaches early on, some nausea (that was solved by changing injection site), tiredness. No vomiting. No tummy troubles. That’s about it. Nothing I haven’t been able to handle, but everyone is different.

I also have PCOS and this medicine has been life changing. My periods are back and the excess hair has pretty much gone. I’m down 3st 5lbs since October.

Best of luck.

IHateMozzies · 30/01/2025 16:09

Never been sick!

Queenofthejabs · 30/01/2025 16:13

Mild nausea weeks five and six as I moved up to 5mg, never been sick. A lot I think is due to what people eat. Or don’t eat. But not all. I’ve been pretty much fine, loads more energy, 3 stone down, feel fantastic,

MounjaroUser1233 · 30/01/2025 16:19

Some side effects of headache every time I move up a dose (currently on my 4th pen on 10mg).
Am way more prone to constipation so drinking a lot of water and eating lots of fibre.
Have completely lost my sweet tooth which is the best thing ever.

Swalwey · 30/01/2025 17:13

I’m 18 weeks in, have upped my dosage every month, and I’ve never had even the slightest bit of nausea. I also don’t eat any sugary or fat/fried foods, which I think makes a difference.

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 30/01/2025 17:18

Not had any nausea at all

Okayornot · 30/01/2025 17:25

I think 99% of people who actually vomit on MJ (as opposed to feeling a little bit sick which is probably more common but still not everyone) fall into one of two groups:

  • either they find they can't eat, get very low blood sugar and that makes them sick. This happened to me twice on 7.5mg, primarily because I was travelling and busy and didn't prioritise eating. Had I been at home I would have eaten little and often (ie a few grapes, a
a bit of satsuma every so often) and that would have controlled the nausea. As a result I dropped back down to 5mg and all has been well since, or
  • they carry on eating and drinking as normal- lots of alcohol or fatty food, and then their body says "no", not least because their digestive system has slowed massively. The key is to change your diet as necessary to reduce fat, increase veg, protein and fibre and not overdo the booze.

Obviously there are a small number of people who just react badly but I do think these are probably few and far between.

No side effects whatsoever

FknOmniShambles · 30/01/2025 18:58

No side effects at all for me.

Darlinghag · 30/01/2025 19:07

Mine has been mild side effects.

A touch of mild nausea or headache occasionally in the early weeks. Usually the day or two after a jab, usually combatted by lots of fluids. I don’t get it currently, but I’ve been on the same (or very close to) dose for three months.

Feeling cold is my main one, again usually in the first day or two after jab. And sometimes the first day or two, I struggle to go to sleep.

I don’t have a normal digestive system; but if I did it would probably have meant constipation. As it happens, it just mostly makes my toileting normal!

Reaction is often luck, but firmly believe eating well and drinking fluid is the best way to combat a lot of it!

Vomiting is not a side effect I see being talked about often here!

I 100% agree with everything you’ve written here. I’ve lightly suggested as much on a few FB groups but haven’t noticed anyone agree. I hope I’m right as I’m only just starting and on 2.5mg but I’ve eaten whole foods little and often and been ultra careful (also because my daughter is diagnosed with emetophobia) and so far no side effects other than dry mouth/thirst despite drinking plenty (has worn off now) and very mild headache first 2 days - certainly not significant enough to need painkillers
