DH really poorly

DH has been on MJ around 11 weeks now, 4 weeks at 2.5mg, 4 weeks at 5mg and now on week 3 of 7.5mg. He’s had very few side effects until this week.

He injected on Saturday morning and was ok over the weekend. He did have an oily curry on Sunday evening (not takeaway but still looked really oily when cooked).

On Monday he got pretty ill. He couldn’t keep anything in, literally coming out of both ends. He isn’t normally sick ever. We weren’t sure at this point if it was a bug or the MJ.

Over the week as he’s started slowly eating plain foods, sickness stopped but runs and stomach pains continued. Then this morning got he’s got awful runs again, the dreaded surfer burps and then been sick throughout the day. He can’t keep anything in. He couldn’t go to work one day last week and is now feeling awful again.

We will be ringing the pharmacist tomorrow but any advice / experience?

I had this the week after u went up to 7.5mg aswell. I started in 5 for 2 months. In 13 weeks I went from 110kg to 95kg. I was vomiting and had the runs constantly. Had to stop it late November. Got scanned in December and just been referred for gall stone surgery today.

We’re home, they did a ‘rapid’ blood test which apparently showed his kidneys were working ok. Then sent to the GP in the walk in centre. He has said to continue with dyrilite and prescribed him with anti-sickness and anti diarrhoea meds.
Both nurse in A&E and GP in walk in believe he caught a bug that was then the jabs massively exacerbated it.
The GP was very positive about the jabs, saying he is a big advocate for them and I’m his advice would be to take a break for a few weeks and once he’s 100% better start again from 2.5mg.

How is your DH now?

How is your DH now?

He is finally better! He hasn’t taken the jab this week and has cancelled his order. He is going to see how he is doing diet wise for four weeks and see whether he wants to go it alone or start again on 2.5mg.

He’s lost 4.5 stone in 12 weeks and is in the habit of going to the gym now so going to see how he gets on without the jab.

I'm so glad he's okay!

I'm just over a month in and quite anxious about side effects. Sounds like he will do well with the gym!

Thanks for checking in! I’m 8 weeks in and so far so good. I’m am sticking with 5mg for my third pen. It’s still working well for me. No major side effects. I’m hungry at meal times but not snacking and much smaller portions.

Glad to hear that he is ok

Don't understand why people choose to inject something that is clearly causing at best, mild side effects, real illness in others and a number of deaths. I would like to lose weight but probably wouldn't be able to take it due to ill health but I wouldn't risk it anyway even if could.

Bbq1 · 10/02/2025 15:38

But hope your dh recovers soon, Op.

I think these jabs are great, but that is A LOT to loose in such a small timeframe. Obviously everyone is different and I don't mean to sound critical because I get everyone does things differently, but that amount of weight loss isn't likely to take a till.on the immune system. If he starts back at 2.5mg again soon, maybe take things a little slower and loose at a slightly slower pace

It's pretty safe for the majority of people and most have benefits only. Serious side effects are really rare, and if people get minor ones and don't like them, they can just stop!

SilenceInside · 10/02/2025 15:42

@Bbq1 it's a simple risk analysis. Being morbidly obese is risky and immediately dangerous to health. Serious side effects of Mounjaro are very rare, mild side effects are not often ongoing and are manageable with simple adjustments.

I had a BMI of 50 at the start of July last year. It's now 34 and still falling. I am clearly much better off health wise now than I was then, and that's all down to Mounjaro. A couple of instances of an upset stomach are nothing compared to the effects of remaining morbidly obese.

If you aren't obese then the risks won't outweigh the benefits, but that why the medication isn't prescribed to people who aren't obese.

Also, just to add, plenty of people get no side effects whatsoever - well no bad ones anyway!! I'm personally loving mounjaro :) You should read the research, it's enlightening! Who knows, maybe you'd b one of the ones with no side effects! You should give it a try BBQ!

Gettingbysomehow · 10/02/2025 15:45

I ate some oily food on MJ once, never, ever again. Same symptoms. I can only eat small amounts of plain food but I'm willing to do that for the duration.

Maybe i will read up on it then. I have digestive problems after my bowel perforated due to cancer plus severe ibs so I don't know if it would be good for ne. Plus my cancer returned in 2023 and I had chemo and a bone marrow transplant last year which I'm still recovering from /long term health problems so i would need to wait anyway. I've had enough chemicals put into my body recently!

Correct, the last 1.5 st was not a good way or time to lose. Before that he was averaging 4-5lb a week, still a lot but he was eating similar foods to me with slightly bigger portions, I am losing 2lb a week so we were comfortable with that. Men tend to lose faster then woman.

Because you have to weigh up the risks vs benefits. Both DH & I were clinically obese, his knees were struggling and before long he likely wouldn’t have been able to work. Prior to the bug entering the house neither DH or I had any side effects. His BMI has gone from 45.6 to 35.9. That can only be good for him long term.

I have a bowel condition (Crohn’s disease) and honestly so far it’s been far better controlled than it has been for a long time. In the same time as DH, I’ve lost 2 stone. We are eating the same calorie controlled diet.

Dont judge what you haven’t researched.

He has come off them for now, he may or may not try again in a month or so, hopefully he can control the diet without them but only time will tell. I have continued but stayed on the same dose.

I’ve had no side effects, like 80,percent of people. Can you link the all these deaths and real illnesses? In the USA, 17 million people on it. 274 deaths, not one due to correct usage of the drugs. Doesn’t mean it won’t happen, but people take nurofen, and 2000 people die annually from it.

so for a very safe drug, to remove the risks associated with obesity, the very severe risks, heart attack, stroke, cancer, diabetes, I will take the drug any day of the week over that.
