DH really poorly

Dueanamechange2025 · 26/01/2025 21:18

DH has been on MJ around 11 weeks now, 4 weeks at 2.5mg, 4 weeks at 5mg and now on week 3 of 7.5mg. He’s had very few side effects until this week.

He injected on Saturday morning and was ok over the weekend. He did have an oily curry on Sunday evening (not takeaway but still looked really oily when cooked).

On Monday he got pretty ill. He couldn’t keep anything in, literally coming out of both ends. He isn’t normally sick ever. We weren’t sure at this point if it was a bug or the MJ.

Over the week as he’s started slowly eating plain foods, sickness stopped but runs and stomach pains continued. Then this morning got he’s got awful runs again, the dreaded surfer burps and then been sick throughout the day. He can’t keep anything in. He couldn’t go to work one day last week and is now feeling awful again.

We will be ringing the pharmacist tomorrow but any advice / experience?

To add DD started throwing up this morning but was fine after an hour. So still not sure if it’s a bug and / or related.

curry and oil is why

avoid both

Hope he’s ok

Sounds like a bug to me if your daughter has been sick. Norovirus still doing the rounds right now.

RoaRiRi · 26/01/2025 21:31

I had this on MJ. It lasted a week. It was awful. I've been really careful about what I eat since

RoaRiRi · 26/01/2025 21:32

It was the sulphur burps that made me realise it wasn't a bug.

InkHeart2024 · 26/01/2025 21:33

Could be a bug exacerbated by the mounjaro. Lots of people report increased symptoms at 7.5 but they wear off.

Could be bug. I had the same but on 5mg recently. After months of no issues, suddenly diarrhea and vomiting. Soon after the rest of the family was ill. I blamed MJ to start with but since the rest of the family got ill, I realised it must have been stomach bug.

Lola3034 · 26/01/2025 21:50

For me Immodium instants helped massively!

ThatCoralShark · 26/01/2025 21:56

If your daughter is ill sounds like a bug.

oily curry would knock you sick, did he not know this, I guess not, oil and spice, will knock him sideways but this sounds like a bug.

We’d had small portions of other curry’s and been fine, but this one was very oily (that said, I also had it on MJ and was fine).

Would it still be ongoing a week later though?

Possibly as can take a while to get out of systems

equally may have been a bug if others ill

there are certain foods that don’t mix well

HellofromJohnCraven · 26/01/2025 22:36

I had similar but concluded it was more likely a stomach bug. I took imodium, buscopan and then gave myself a week off the injection.

HellofromJohnCraven · 26/01/2025 22:41

I also take nexium

AquaOrca · 27/01/2025 01:18

Oily food, excess portions, too much alcohol - all seem to be the main cause for bad side effects.

Yes we’ve avoided all of the other. Totally over hauled our diet.

Mounjaro slows gut transit considerably!

Dueanamechange2025 · 02/02/2025 08:42

Update for anyone that’s interested.

We spoke to the prescriber on Monday as he had to take another day off work. They said likely to be a bug, advised the normal Imodium, Dirilyte etc and to call back Thursday if he still wasn’t well. By Thursday I’d had pretty much subsided, he actually felt more like he couldn’t go by that point.

He decided to switch the jab back to Friday night to give him extra time if it was a side effect and also reduced back down to 5mg. Anyway, he started with sulphur burps yest and has been up all night on the toilet again. He hasn’t yet been sick but is sure it’s coming.

I think this is the end of his MJ journey as he can’t live like this. He’s lost 4st 2lb in 12 weeks but about 1.5 st has been in the last two weeks as he’s been so ill.

God that’s a lot of weight and very fast. It seems reasonable he stops. As that can’t be positive for him at all

maybe give his system a break for a few months and he can try something like wegovy if he still has some to lose.

Edited

That’s a huge amount of weight in a very short time

come off it. See how he feels. Start again slow

Dueanamechange2025 · 02/02/2025 10:17

Yes, prior to this bout of illness we were comfortable with the loss, he lost a lot in the first week and then was around 5lb a week from there. He was eating well but healthily and started the gym a couple of times a week. (Our diets very similar, with him having slightly bigger portions but I am losing average 2lb per week, so feels right). The last two weeks, he has lost way too much.

Dueanamechange2025 · 03/02/2025 12:32

Update - we have come to a&e, he still can’t keep anything in at all. He’s barely eaten for 2.5 weeks and looks drawn & tired.

Good luck op. Hopefully they get to the bottom of it.

MounjaroOnMyMind · 03/02/2025 15:03

That's a hell of a lot of weight to lose in such a short period of time. He must feel really rough. I hope the doctors at A&E can help him feel better, OP.
