Slowly stepping up doses and feel so unwell on 8.75

lostinthememory · 10/01/2025 14:10

This is all done with the permission of my prescriber.

I had very few side effects on 2.5mg, and so after two months when I wasn't finding it as impactful we agreed I'd step up to 3.75

I tend to stick to each "normal" dose for two months and then the step up dose for a month.

I took my first 8.75 on Tuesday and I just feel awful. I feel sick, I've barely eaten today (an apple and a protein coffee), my head hurts, I feel weak, I'm going hot and cold.

What on earth do i do???

Are you staying on the same dose for 4 weeks then moving up?
What your doctor is suggesting is dangerous and just sounds like he's trying to sell more to you. I would cut ties with him and go elsewhere, I don't know any other perscriber that advises this

lostinthememory · 10/01/2025 16:40

I'm losing anywhere between 1.5 to 4 pounds a week depending on where I am in my menstrual cycle.

He's fully registered, but he's also encouraging me to buy the higher dose pens and work out the dosage from that, so I'm guessing it's a money thing

Definitely change provider, lots of red flags here!

07whatever · 10/01/2025 16:44

Also out of curiosity, how much are you paying for each pen? You must be spending a small fortune!

lostinthememory · 10/01/2025 16:45

It's a flat rate of £239 a month no matter the dose, but they sell it as being a full package. You go for bi monthly blood tests, a monthly face to face consultation and access to a doctor to speak to as and when you need

I suspect he wants to speed you onto higher doses because he makes more money that way.

Any chance you might be coming down with flu or one of the other nasty viruses currently doing the rounds?

You must be more careful about when, and what, you eat and drink, being dehydrated and not having any food in your system worsens side effects. Even if you are suffering early symptoms of flu you should be sipping liquids, and considering rustling up some easily digested, nutrient dense food. How about cheesy scrambled eggs, followed by defrosted berries in kefir?

Hope you feel better soon and don't let that doctor rush you into taking higher doses when you are comfortable on 7.5.

Wow, he was so rude in the go elsewhere comment and that’s a huge cost, you’ve been paying nearly double till now and still significantly higher.

why are you going for all those blood tests?

lostinthememory · 10/01/2025 17:02

I do wonder if it could be a bit of a bug as well.f work is full of it at the moment!

Re the blood tests, he said it was advised due to the potential for vitamin deficiencies when on a very low calorie diet.

goodness,,why are you on a very low calorie diet?

honeslty this guy sounds like a real charlatan.

Pashazade · 10/01/2025 17:07

That's bollocks no need for a blood test, bin him off. Go elsewhere I'm using Asda one of the more expensive ones but there's full medical help if you need it. Just pay attention to what you eat, if you're eating tiny amounts make sure what you eat is properly nutritious. But I'd just stop seeing him and block on all channels and find a reputable pharmacy. Oh I'm paying about £164 a month including delivery. So still a lot cheaper than what you're being charged.

SilenceInside · 10/01/2025 17:08

Blimey, that's expensive. And you don't need blood tests and you shouldn't be on a very low calorie diet. You can take multivitamins as a backstop to ensure you're not missing anything in your diet. You can get the pens you're on for £100 less than that with an ordinary online prescriber. I think you should take the doctor's advice and take your business elsewhere!!

SilenceInside · 10/01/2025 17:09

I just paid £130 for a 7.5mg pen from Zava for example.

Snatherwang · 10/01/2025 17:11
  1. I’d say you’re probably sick what with the going hot and cold
  2. the dosing sounds bizarre. But I don’t think it would make you ill. Sounds like some kind of money maximising scheme to me.
  3. the attitude they’ve displayed in your response is very worrying i.e go elsewhere.
I’d just order 7.5mg online and crack on until you feel the need to increase
lostinthememory · 10/01/2025 17:12

I average anywhere from 1000 to 1500 calories a day just depending how I feel, I try to aim for 1300-1400 a day

I'll look into switching, I just feel a bit out of my depth

OP posts:
ShowAndGo · 10/01/2025 17:12

Are you absolutely sure he's a real doctor? What's the point in doing expensive blood tests every fortnight, when he could just give you a detailed guide to what you should be eating to get the right nutrients?

Gettingslimmer · 10/01/2025 17:13

That’s not very low calorie diet?

Snatherwang · 10/01/2025 17:13

I paid £129 for 10mg this month. This is a rip off. You don’t need regular blood tests - if you did the NHS would require online prescribers do this - and they don’t.

And seeing someone face to face each month just sounds annoying. What do you talk about?!

lostinthememory · 10/01/2025 17:15

He says for my weight it's counted as one.

He's a real doctor, but now I feel like I'm being scammed

SilenceInside · 10/01/2025 17:17

A VLCD is 800 calories or lower. What you're eating is not a very low calorie diet.

There's lots of us here that are taking Mounjaro and have been for months, there are long running threads for people who started in specific months. I post on the July thread as that's when I started. We all chat about things and support each other. If you're worried about things or have questions then you can ask people here for their thoughts.

Gettingslimmer · 10/01/2025 17:18

Op. Get out of that, go with someone like oushk. You’re being ripped off and getting shit advice.

Snatherwang · 10/01/2025 17:18

Ah well you live and learn. Pop onto one of the online pharmacies now and just feel grateful you’re going to be saving £100 a month now!

I assume you’re using needles to extract are you? Is there any chance you mucked up the dose and gave yourself more? Either way, you’ll be fine, just wait it out

Styleislost · 10/01/2025 17:35

Going up doses doesn’t mean you lose weight quicker.

Any doctor that’s says ‘no this isn’t how it recommended to be used but it’s how I recommended you use it. Like it or lump it’ is shit.

What experience does he have, that’s means he knows more than the manufacturer? Did he volunteer any information on his vast knowledge of why his idea of dosing is better than the recommended way of doing it?

if you are doing well in the dose you are on. Then you stay on that dose.

Styleislost · 10/01/2025 17:37

How much do you weigh and how tall are you?

Seldomseenkid · 10/01/2025 17:50

OP, your post really concerns me. I do the think the dose is what’s making you feel ill and I hope it gets better soon. You need to keep an eye on this and consider getting advice from a GP. Any decent supplier would not advise this schedule, and it’s a huge red flag that your concerns have been dismissed. Please don’t continue with this service and find a new one.

Snatherwang · 10/01/2025 17:54

@seldomseenkid I’m sorry but you have little to base that on. The dosage schedule is odd but she’s been increasing gradually so being ill is just as likely to be a virus. Nothing is really concerning.
