Sudden Hip Pain - Side Effect Of Mounjaro??

Ed31 · 07/01/2025 12:29

I’m 8 weeks into Mounjaro, actually Friday will be my 9th week. Compared to most I’ve been a slow loser having lost 1stone in this time whereas others I’ve seen on YouTube have lost 2 stone or more in the same time scale.

Anyway… Sunday I noticed a pain in my right side in the hip area which is odd for me having never experienced hip pain before, yesterday Monday though the pain has got more intense to the point it’s difficult getting in & out of bed, putting on my boxers, socks, jeans, shoes etc, getting up off a chair & even getting in & out of my car is quite awkward & quite uncomfortable, it’s all very odd 🤔

I typed into Google Mounjaro & Hip pain just to check, and while there’s not much info out there to connect the two I did come across a couple of discussions where people on Mounjaro had similar problems which got so bad they had to cease taking the Mounjaro… I really don’t want this to be a problem for me but if this is a side effect I may have to end my journey, as I’ve felt so good on Mounjaro I’m trying to tell myself there’s another reason for it, but I can’t think of anything else that I’ve done to be causing this, and the fact it’s something I’ve never ever experienced before, therefore I wondered if anyone else has encountered anything similar?

I’ve been for a 1.47 mile walk yesterday & a 2.7 mile this morning with some limping as I walk so it’s not making me totally inoperable but still very concerning when I’m struggling to get undressed / dressed & struggling getting in or out of bed etc, somethings not right & I’m worried it’s going to get worse…

Everyone talks of all the usual side effects which we should all really know about before we commence Mounjaro, it always surprises me when I see people reaching out because they feel bloated or have burps, but to have something like this is a whole different game & not something I’ve heard of? Hoping it’s not Mounjaro related but I can’t think of anything else that I’ve done to trigger this issue 🤔

I find it ridiculous that increase in activity and weight loss changing motion is not considered the likely culprit. Maybe is MJ but let's be sensible.

Maybe I’m just overthinking the Mounjaro thing, it’s those screenshot comments that got me concerned. Anyway I have a physio appointment in the morning, earliest slot I could get so hopefully I’ll get to the bottom of it 👍🏻

It makes sense if it is not the drug, simply you have pulled a muscle or nerve or it’s sciatic. However you seem determined to beleive it can only be the drug.

Not determined just concerned 👍🏻 These drugs come with considerable risks which I think many are quite flippant about.

I don’t think we are flippant. But for a scientifically proven anti inflammatory, that slows digestion and triggers your brain to feel full, it is hugely unlikely it impacts your hips of all things.

i can categorically assure you if I searched Reddit I’d find nearly every single thing you could think of some one has listed as a symptom.

i have sore thighs at the moment, i know it’s from the gym. Increased activity, lower weight. I am sure if I went on Reddit I’d find someone saying muscle soreness was due to the drugs.

hell I am fairly sure if I search Reddit I can find someone saying the earth is flat, the world is run by aliens, and elvis is alive and working down the local chip shop

FlappingMadly · 09/01/2025 10:02

Oh now it's flippancy.

12purplepencils · 09/01/2025 10:21

Well this has taken a turn 😆

Seaitoverthere · 09/01/2025 10:27

Could it be bursitis ? Good you are seeing a physio.

Bursitis is awful, so painful. X

Why are you taking my comment personally? it wasn’t aimed at you I was talking about people in general… 🤔 The point I was trying to make is this is a high risk medication with risks of thyroid cancer, pancreatitis, stomach paralysis & goodness knows what, yet many people flippantly take it, probably a percentage of which sometimes don’t really need to & could loose their weight by conventional dieting methods.

Anyway getting back to my issue I went into work yesterday but could barely function, everyone at work could see I was in difficulty & I really shouldn’t have been there in the state I was in, it was only for about 2.5 hrs so I was glad when I finally made it home, especially as I’d had 2 whole nights without any sleep due to the pain I was in.

As I was so exhausted I took myself off to bed thinking I’d be back up in an hour or so due to the discomfort but I managed to fall asleep with the tv on, woke later in the evening feeling nice & snug without too much pain & that sudden jarring pain I was experiencing when I attempted to move was no longer there, just a feeling that it’s still a bit tender, this morning after about a 10hr sleep I got out of bed without too much of an effort & managed to dress myself which is amazing as for the last couple of mornings I’ve relied on my other half to dress my lower half, I feel 90% better than I was previously, all very strange to clear up so quickly… 🤔

This morning I have an appointment with a physio which I’m feeling like a bit of a fraud but at least I can get checked out & will have my other half there who’s a nurse to confirm what I’ve been going through this week.

I said previously yesterday was my Mounjaro injection day as I mistakenly thought it was Friday, but as today is Friday it’s actually today. Still unsure if I’ll take it, but if I do & my pain returns within a day or two then it will be a pretty good indicator that’s the cause of the pain, being in so much discomfort this week & with limited mobility almost to the point of having a disability I’m still reluctant to take it so may just decided to have a week off it to give it more time, more as an experiment so I’ll see.

Will reply with an update for anyone who’s interested as to which way it goes, could’ve just been a trapped nerve or sciatic related that’s sorted itself out or just could be down to the Mounjaro who knows, hopefully going forward I’ll be able to clarify either way.

I did wonder about bursitis, seeing physio this morning but if you read my last post you’ll see I’ve remarkably woke this morning almost feeling a different person & mostly pain free which is amazing considering the state I’ve been in these past few days, one part of me can’t quite get my head around it & another part of me is just so grateful I’m no longer in the pain & suffering like I was 🙂

Yes I get what you are saying, and of course I agree. I was just looking for answers & came across those comments & they were so alike what I was going through. While I never blamed Mounjaro I did question if that could be the cause which one naturally would of course. 👍🏻

@Ed31 I was not taking it personally. Just thought you were rather flippant yourself about the trade off obese people make. Obesity causes a lot of diseases and it's well known losing even just 5% but expecially 20% is a significant life changing benefit. So we hope we are not one of the unlucky ones who gets a serious side affect. We are not blind to it. You took it yourself. Did you do so flippantly?

murraymcgill · 10/01/2025 11:15

@Ed31 hi I'm on the same position I'm in agony couldn't sleep last night this has been going on for a few weeks I'm on 7.5 2nd week

I think maybe some confusion. The meds do not have a high risk of these issues. In fact it is very low and rare complications.

why are you taking it when you actually thought that?

FlappingMadly · 10/01/2025 14:50

Yes a good point. I couldn't edit my comment but meant to write a 'rare serious side effect'

NippyNinjaCrab · 10/01/2025 16:13

Hi @Ed31 that's great news the pain has lessened, as someone who has chronic pain i totally get how you felt especially with not knowing wtf was happening. Hopefully the physio manipulating your hip won't aggravate it now it's settling. Out of interest have you taken any anti inflammatory meds in the last couple of days?

hopeishere · 10/01/2025 16:39

Interesting. My hips are really sore at the minute. I do have problems with one anyway but both are bad currently.

NippyNinjaCrab · 10/01/2025 20:08

murraymcgill · 12/01/2025 17:39

@Ed31 I'm not going to say to docs or provider I'll see how it goes I k ow of I mention it MJ will probs be stopped

BigSilly · 12/01/2025 17:43

I haven't gap hip pain before, but I have noticed this north of England sub-zero cold snap has made the hurt when I walk outside

murraymcgill · 12/01/2025 17:43

@Ed31 hips and thighs are agony but I still won't say I.fact I haven't even told my doctor I'm on MJ

BigSilly · 12/01/2025 17:44
