@QueenOfHiraeth thanks for responding…. indeed MJ was not available when I started Trulicity (6 years ago now) - but it has been available since last summer by the looks. Ironically, Trulicity became unavailable (or at least Incouldnt get it any more) due to the demand for MJ, Ozempic et al.

I also feel the cold more now - I’m putting it down to the 5 stone I’ve lost this year.

So how did you access MJ?

Choux · 17/12/2024 08:47

I have been on it for 9 months now. No adverse side effects and took 15mg for a few months. I am not a super responder to it so needed the higher doses although I started losing immediately on 2.5mg.

No diarrhoea, no vomiting. Occasional fatigue probably from slightly excessive suppression as my body got used to higher doses.

I am now at goal weight and tapering slowly back down the doses to let me body and mind get used to maintenance. Am on 10mg now. Not sure what will happen on the lower doses but am used to smaller portions and able so exercise more and be more active as am slimmer so it feels easier so am reasonably confident maintenance is possible.

Choux · 17/12/2024 08:49

I got mine through an online private prescription. I was obese but not morbidly so and had no diabetes etc although cholesterol was high.

I think it's still very hard to get on the NHS even if morbidly obese with diabetes.

magicalmrmistoffelees · 17/12/2024 08:52

@PuzzledObserver like most people I got mine through private prescription online. I used MedExpress

Hiseyesareorangehistongueisblack · 17/12/2024 09:21

OP I have got into a really good routine of lifting heavy at the gym 3-4 times a week consistently and I’ve learnt what to eat to feel satiated and happy. The MJ was a good boost but the biggest advantage was the mental clarity and no food noise allowing me to function so much better and actually eat well - because in the past when I’ve done any diet all I’ve been able to do is think and hyper focus on food - MJ cuts all that.

WorriedRelative · 17/12/2024 10:35

Nothing significant, occasional nausea if I overeat, a couple of evenings of heartburn associated with eating too much. A few times I have had to increase my fibre to deal with mild constipation.

Nothing that has required medication or time off work or change of plans

PuzzledObserver · 17/12/2024 15:52

It’s fascinating. I didn’t really know that online private pharmacies were a thing, it wouldn’t have occurred to me to look there. I kind of expected the NHS to look after me :-(

Anyhow, as a fellow traveller on the road of severe obesity (in my case virtually lifelong), I wish you all well in finding a long term solution that fits for you. I am still wearing size 16/18, so hardly skinny. But my quality of life is so much better now than at my biggest (30)

I had used online private pharmacies pre buying Mounjaro for various things, it’s often easier and quicker than trying to get a GP appointment!

I was referred to the weight management clinic by my GP and they refused the referral because my BMI was 39.8 instead of 40+ and I do not have enough health issues to qualify (apparently being asthmatic, pre-diabetic and having a horrendous family risk of diabetes, heart disease and more is not enough) so, rather than wait until I became as ill as other family members, I read up about it and planned for myself.
I went initially with one of the subscription companies where you sign up, pay monthly and get regular Zoom calls for nutrition advice, health coaching, exercise and other info. After 4 months or so I felt I knew enough to move to an online pharmacy who supply the medication with some support but not as much so are cheaper.
It has been worth every penny

Well done on taking control.

I’d be interested to know what nutrition advice you were given, both in terms of what to eat and how often to eat.

It’s more than 25 years since I was diagnosed with diabetes, but I don’t think the advice given now has changed much. I’m finding success by doing almost the exact opposite.

MsRumpole · 18/12/2024 09:15

Week 5 day 4 on 2.5mg and no side effects so far apart from dry eyes after the very first dose in Week 1.

QueenOfHiraeth · 18/12/2024 20:35

@PuzzledObserver The nutrition advice was helpful to me although it might be obvious to other people. Basically it was that my diet was calorie controlled and largely healthy but it was not well-balanced as I had been restricting my eating for years so I was advised to increase my protein in the first instance. For example I would often have a small bowl of home-made vegetable based soup with a slice of toast for lunch and she pointed out the total lack of protein in that which would contribute to hunger later in the day so advised replacing the toast with some chicken, halloumi, etc. She said to log my food and aim for 100g protein a day then, when that was in place, increase fibre and hydration

I remember seeing a diabetic diet advice booklet when I was still working and being shocked that it suggested half a glass of orange juice at breakfast. I suggested to the diabetic nurse and the GP this was not ideal but it fell on deaf ears

Adelstrop · 21/12/2024 12:52

Some constipation (don't drink enough water), occasional heartburn after drinking wine, that's it. 3 months at 2.5 mg, currently on first month of 5mg.

Now this is interesting. My next question was going to be what happens when you come off it??

Good to hear you are still feeling good @Hiseyesareorangehistongueisblack

And thanks to all who replied here

When we come off it, it we return to old eating habits we will, like any diet, put the weight back on. It is unfortunately common with obesity to very easily return to previous weight, and this has been seen in Mounjaro trials too. But again this will come down to the individual.

Aiming for and reaching a healthy weight is just the start of the challenge. Maintaining the healthy weight, as we all know from previous diets is the hardest part.

There are post mounjaro facebook groups where some have totally changed their lives, diet and exercise, and are maintaining a few months post mounjaro. Others are looking at maintence plans of either lower doses, or perhaps using mounjaro again for a couple of months now and again to get back on track if needed (some pharmacies are now allowing this).

I am on my 11th week post MJ. I was 62.2kg when I took my last dose, and 11 weeks later I am hovering around 60.5kg.
I have continued calorie counting, eating plenty of protein and drinking plenty of water. I also walk the dog for an hour a day, and do strength training twice a week (did this pre and during MJ too). Quietly confident in maintaining so far!

WeAllHaveWings · 21/12/2024 13:36

@magicalmrmistoffelees Thanks for sharing it is always good to hear about someone who has stopped and is doing so great! 👏

I need to convince dh we should get another dog! (we lost our old Labrador 18 months ago and I miss the walks - even the rainy cold ones - so much!) Though I am not sure I can afford both MJ and a dog/insurance now!

Redlightbulb · 21/12/2024 15:00

I have had all the side affects and I largely avoid all the unhealthy stuff (acid reflux, heartburn, diarrhoea, sulphur burps, vomiting, tiredness, low mood, stomach ache) but they are all manageable. The worst is the acid reflux & sulphur burps that I have started to now get for the first couple of days after injecting. This has led to occasional vomiting but it is short lived. Low mood isn't nice but it is hard to pinpoint that to MJ. If it wasn't for MJ I wouldn't have got out of the binge eating habits that I had picked up again during Covid.

MounjaroUser1233 · 21/12/2024 15:31

I've had a headache with every new pen. A bit like a hangover headache. I really don't feel thirsty so have to set reminders to drink. I have had constipation also. It was quite bad but I think I would prefer constipation over diarrhea which I had with Saxenda. It was absolutely awful and I had to stop taking it. Ozempic I didn't have any side effects but felt hungrier on it than on MJ. MJ has been more effective for getting rid of "food noise"

GrimDamnFanjo · 21/12/2024 17:43

I sailed by until my current jab, 10 mg. I'm on my second pen. I'm not sure if I was just coincidently unwell after every weekly injection or this has been the one to get me.
I've been ok for the last two weeks so I'm hoping I've got used to it now. I read that 5mg and 10mg can be the worst to get used to.
