@PuzzledObserver Mounjaro has only become available fairly recently. At the point you had it, Trulicity may have been all available?

@ssd I have been on it since May with minimal side effects.

I feel cold more which may be the drug but may also be that I have lost over 3st of insulation (although I have 3 more to go)
I have been a bit constipated but not to the point of any discomfort, just pooped like a rabbit for a while
I have had tiredness sometimes, on the day after my injection. It's not like a normal tiredness, it's like being drained as though my batteries have run down. Lasts a few hours then gone and it's unpredictable, happens sometimes but not always

doodleschnoodle · 16/12/2024 23:07

My husband has had nothing. 55lbs down and still on 5mg and no side effects at all.

I've had some gastro stuff, mostly diarrhoea in the day or two after a jab but this week I went back down to 3.75mg and no side effects. I've lost almost 45lbs.

I think my advice would be to stay on the lowest dose that's working for you as long as you can. I've never needed to go past 5mg and I have actually only had two weeks on 5 in the last 3 months. Don't rush, if you're losing weight then stick with your dose.

doodleschnoodle · 16/12/2024 23:09

Oh and peppermint softgels work really well for the gastric stuff.

wohmum · 16/12/2024 23:15

I’m on my first 7.5 mg pen and 4 months in, and have had very very few side effects - I think just 3 occasions ( on 2.5mg) when I over indulged and get very uncomfortably full with severe indigestion
Generally good supression and eating much less, but fairly slow loss- averaging 1.3 lb per week.

MajorCarolDanvers · 16/12/2024 23:17

I just get a bit burpy in the first day of each injection

unsync · 16/12/2024 23:29

5 mg was the worst, bit of queasiness and funny tum for a week. Since then, nothing. You'll hear about side effects as people post about them. You'll get all the scaremongers too, who haven't actually taken these meds but are world experts.

People don't generally post to say no side effects, all is well. If they did, I suspect those posts would be many more than the side effect posts. The only way you'll find out is to do it. You've nothing to lose except body weight.

Dietingfool · 17/12/2024 06:48

I think statistically 80 percent of people don’t have side effects and those who do it is manageable.

ive had none apart from when I went up to five, felt nauseas.

generally from what I can see, it is people who don’t follow the instructions correctly, they don’t eat correctly, so fatty food, sugar, carbs in too high a quantity will make you feel ill. Sickness, diarrhoea, burping etc, in addition they don’t eat enough sometimes, and then over eat at others, again making them unwell.

Plus they then use the wrong dose, staying low, for a long time, so the drug doesn’t perform correctly in their bodies , not enough to control the blood sugar etc, making them feel sick.

if you follow the instructions, dose correctly and eat correctly. The side effects tend to me mitigated,

if you follow social media nonsense , mess around with the doses, don’t eat properly. You’re not going to feel good, if you follow the guidelines, get your calories, and eat cleanly, you will feel better.

LouisaPesel · 17/12/2024 06:54

OP - I've had side effects (nausea) on week 2 but I'd still say go for it. I've lost 8lbs in under a fortnight and the "food noise" has disappeared.

I'm taking a break till new year because I don't want to feel nauseous over the festive season but I'll be jabbing again on 1st January!

LouisaPesel · 17/12/2024 06:56

Well you're wrong on that one!

All medications cause side effects in some people - it's the nature of the beast.

OK this really isn't true and is deeply insulting to those of us doing everything right who do experience side effects. It's a medication, diarrhea is pretty common and for most people manageable but I have found that a challenging part of the process. I feel better in countless ways and am losing weight but it does affect some worse than others, however carefully and cleanly we eat! I would encourage the OP to try it, but to be prepared for side effects, informed about the best ways to mitigate them and manage them should they occur but let's have less of the blame and condescension please - some of us do it all properly and experience the very common side effects listed on the packaging and it's not our fault!

I wasn’t wrong, and yes should have written mainly people, of course some people can’t tolerate the drug , but mainly yes it is people who do not follow correctly, you can see it in their posts.

Sigh, as said, yes I should have written mainly people. As I didn’t for one moment think some people would get upset and assume I meant no one had a bad side effect otherwise.

Hiseyesareorangehistongueisblack · 17/12/2024 07:01

I had none apart from appetite suppression and feeling like I’d eaten Christmas dinner if I ate too much. Lost 3 stone. Stopped MJ 4 months ago. Have lost a few more pounds. Maintaining easily. Completely changed my relationship with food.

No, that really isn't the case. And it's not an inability to tolerate the drug either, it's just that there are some pretty common side effects and that's true of most medications. Experiencing diarrhoea on MJ doesn't mean you can't tolerate it. Lots of people react that way and are still successful on it. We weigh up the cost and benefit of the drug. But lots of us do get these effects while using it correctly and that is to be expected for a percentage of users.

I think you are minimising the experiences of people who suffer bad side effects, it's glib to suggest most can be waved away as users not following the instructions correctly or not eating correctly.

I became very ill on Ozempic (similar to MJ) and followed all instructions/ate correctly etc and was on a very low dose too.

I'm not denying that many people suffer no bad side effects & I'm not trying to put anyone off. But equally, it's not right to imply that side effects are largely caused by human error, just because you were lucky that you personally had no bad side effects.

Dietingfool · 17/12/2024 07:14

Oh my,

ok, the op asked if the side effects were as common as she thinks as that’s all she hears. I was pointing out, no, many it is due to misuse. Of course, people have side effects, but it is not the overwhelming majority,

if people fancy a pile on, that’s ok, but I’m not going to explain a fourth time.

Oceangreyscale · 17/12/2024 07:15

No side effects here.

Bibulous · 17/12/2024 07:19

I've had a little bit of constipation a few times if I haven't been drinking enough water or eating enough fibre. Sultana bran or fresh fruit, and at least two litres of water a day, keeps it under control.

I've got a lot more weight to lose but I've lost two and a half stone so far and I'm definitely feeling the difference. The compulsion to overeat just disappeared and it's so much easier to tell when I've had enough food. It's been life-changing.

It’s not a case of fancying a pile on. It’s a case of correcting misinformation.

It’s a drug that can have nasty side effects that people should be aware of. That’s all.

daffodilandtulip · 17/12/2024 07:30

None at all - except for if I eat shit food. Which is kind of the point...

Recycledblonde · 17/12/2024 07:46

The constipation and headaches I get occasionally could be side effects but equally I got them occasionally before starting so could be just my normal menopause symptoms. If you had headaches etc before then the two are not necessarily related although obviously some people do have side effects of varying levels as with any drug.
Correlation does not prove causation.

Summerhillsquare · 17/12/2024 07:51

ALL medicines have side effects, it's a matter of balancing risks and benefits. My asthma medicine can affect bone density, but I balance that with being able to live and work normally. Likewise for me MJ benefits outweigh the inconvenience massively.

We're so bad at assessing risks in the UK. No one should go round thinking that some drugs are perfect and that there are miraculous solutions that you just haven't been let in on yet.

MJnotMJ · 17/12/2024 08:11

Minimal- very cold on 2.5 and lots of sulphur burps in the first 24/48 hours post injection. Slight constipation but nothing to get worked up about.
Amazing suppression, annoyed with myself for increasing when I did actually. I increased slowly- I didn’t do the full dose when I upped to 5. I haven’t gone up yet as 5 is still working well for me. I had one morning when I woke at 3am and felt nauseous for about 5 minutes but that was over quickly. I had injected an increased amount the evening before. I do tend to feel quite tired the day after.

I drink around 2 litres of water a day, I eat food largely cooked from scratch. I eat healthy fats (nuts, cook with olive oil, avocado etc), also cheese, seeds, salad and vegetables and lots of protein such as chicken and fish. When I say lots I mean as a percentage of what I eat. I actually eat a very small amount overall.

Good to hear you are still feeling good @Hiseyesareorangehistongueisblack
