I thought I was going to have to call an ambulance yesterday… 😵‍💫

Before MJ I was regular in my daily visit to the loo 😬. A cup of coffee in the morning and off I would go!

Anyhow the frequency of my time on the loo has greatly reduced!

However yesterday, I thought I was going to:
a) die with pain
b) have to call an ambulance

I needed the loo, except 😳😳😳 it was too big to come out 😳😳😳 so think, half in, half out and NOT budging!

I’ve never given birth other than by c section but a friend said it’s almost like doing an enormous and very painful poo, which I didn’t understand, until yesterday.

I sat for 20 mins trying to visualise it coming out, breathing, relaxing, not getting stressed and then…. I asked my daughter (bless her wee heart) to bring me my phone and I started to google… and how dangerous constipation is!

The embarrassment factor and knowing it had to come out eventually meant I wasn’t going to call an ambulance before anyone says anything, but it fleetingly came into my mind, what on earth will I do? What would I do if this happened when I wasn’t at home?!

Another website said to lie on the ground with legs higher than pelvis, which I did and then walked around a bit. This worked, thankfully! 😅

I’m not going to describe the size other than 😳

Anyway the point of my lighthearted but painful lesson, is that I need more fibre in my diet.

Lunch yesterday was salmon and wholemeal pasta, don’t really feel like pasta these days.

I’ll definitely be seeing how I can avoid this in future.

Hopefully no one is too offended by my description 😬

You need prunes!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 15/12/2024 08:04

Eeek. I'm starting soon and this sounds scary!

Hope youre all okay now and nothings torn or anything 😬

Strawber · 15/12/2024 08:09

Psyllium husks (fibre) on Amazon take 1 every day. It stops the constipation

GlitteryFarts · 15/12/2024 08:09

Lactulose is your friend

Keroppi · 15/12/2024 08:09

Definitely prunes or apple juice and invest in a squatty potty/small stepstool kept near the toilet - you'll never go back!
Psyllium husk great too.

KnightonShiningArmour · 15/12/2024 08:10

Get a toddler step to use with the loo, makes it easier bear down.

I have pysillum husk with every meal (to add more fibre), plenty of water and movicol sachets in the house in case I still get a bit sluggish.

LashesZ · 15/12/2024 08:12

Get yourself some glycerin suppositories. You can get them from the chemist for cheap. They help protect from a fissure which is even worse than being constipated.

I didn't like the idea of them but after trying every trick in the book and eating countless disgusting prunes, these are my go to.

LashesZ · 15/12/2024 08:13

To be clear only use them when backed up - not as a preventative measure! You don't want to have to depend on them. They are a handy thing to have in case of emergencies.

CheeseTime · 15/12/2024 08:15

Yes. Anyone starting these needs to plan for constipation. Lots of water. Prunes etc.
Second the poo step! We have one and it’s so helpful.

CheeseTime · 15/12/2024 08:16

Ps. Please tell me you wouldn’t have called an ambulance instead of driving or getting a taxi!

Iudncuewbccgrcb · 15/12/2024 08:17

Chia seeds sprinkled on most of my meals seems to be helping...

TheSilkWorm · 15/12/2024 08:22

Assuming you're a woman, if you have a poo that won't take the last step you can try pushing it from the inside of your vagina with your thumb. A midwife told me this trick. It can help to pop it out if your muscles aren't doing the trick.

Of course not! 😁

I have overnight oats with natural or Greek yoghurt and apple compote for breakfast every morning. Seems to produce the result you’re looking for with predictable regularity 🤗

TheLurpackYears · 15/12/2024 08:33

For all the helpful things you can eat, don't forget to up you fluid intake A LOT as they need the water to give them bulk and make them slippery.

Doggymummar · 15/12/2024 08:40

I had this a few weeks back. I was sweating shaking and crying. It blocked the toilet. I didn't look but my oh said it was as thick as my arm and about 9 inches ling. It really hurts. I take a Dulcolax 12 now on Saturday night and go normally on a Sunday.

Turnippy · 15/12/2024 08:50

HRT makes me constipated so I drink these now and it helps - they come in lots of different flavours

IlovetoKnitandRead · 15/12/2024 09:02

I stopped Mounjaro because of the constipation. Two psyllium husk tablets a day and only pooping every 3 to 4 days. The pain was horrendous. I had a really scary episode when the pain was so bad my heart rate slowed right down when I was on the loo and I felt so faint. It's strong stuff and really slows everything in the gut down. It has taken 3 weeks to get out of my system and I only got up to 5mg for 2 weeks.

Dietingfool · 15/12/2024 09:05

What are you doing to ensure you stay regular. I take a daily psyllium husk, with plenty of water obvs as it’s required with it, and some dried prunes and figs mid morning,

you need to make proactive efforts in this department, as you could end up with a very signficant issue.

Seagullsinawinterwonderland · 15/12/2024 09:06

I've been taking a teaspoon of inulin daily and it's working well. It's also helped the suppression as even on 7.5 mine was coming back relatively quickly.

WeAllHaveWings · 15/12/2024 13:46

I've had to birth a poo twice this week!

I've been taking MJ 25 weeks, first 5-6 weeks felt a bit backed up but nothing significant, still went most days. Next 20 weeks all normal. Then this week, no change of dose for 20 weeks, constipation hit hard!

First "birth" was on Tuesday. Lasted hours until around 4am! No movement on Wednesday. Thursday it was the same again and nothing was moving, just felt it was there in limbo but not exiting iykwim. So sucked it back up as much as possible 🫣😳, walked to the local pharmacy and whispered very quietly.......do you have any glycerin suppositories......got a knowing nod and a pack of 12 for £2.50.

By the time I got back the walk must have done me good and things moved without having to use them! I have never used any laxatives before and was worried oral ones might not work until the following day when I was out/busy so went for the suppositories which seemingly work very quickly. At least they are there if I need them.

KitsyWitsy · 15/12/2024 19:42

Don’t let it get to that point again. I use suppositories if I haven’t gone for a couple of days.

Username15122024 · 15/12/2024 19:57

Oh my god yes, I didn't know how to describe them but this does so well.
It definitely felt like it was waiting in the shoot but not being shot.

Tailfeather · 15/12/2024 20:04

I'm on Mounjaro and have the opposite - terrible diarrhoea for a few days, then nothing for a couple of days (probably because I am empty) then diarrhoea again.

PaperLill · 15/12/2024 20:13

Thanks for the question OP!

I started recently and will be purchasing a couple of things just in case.

Hope you’ve recovered ok now; these kind of things can be very alarming!!
