Freezing cold - is this a side effect of mounjaro?

I've been on mounjaro for 6 months now, and for the first 3-4 days after I've jabbed I am absolutely freezing! It's a good job I work from home most of the time - last time I was in the office I had 5 layers on!

Anyone else?

Yep, central heating on 23° and I am wearing a jumper because it feels so cold

SilenceInside · 11/12/2024 14:15

Yep, seems to happen to quite a lot of us. I have bought extra blankets, wear fingerless gloves whilst working, microwave heat pads, hot water bottle, multiple layers of socks...

Summerhillsquare · 11/12/2024 15:19

Yes, very much so. I don't get hot at the gym any more either. Only get really warm in bed or under my heated blanket on the sofa..

Pumpkinforever · 11/12/2024 15:57

Since taking MJ I am wearing more layers, using my sheepskin slippers (had them for years unused) and fingerless gloves at home. But that could be we just avoid switching on the heating during the day - coming on in 10 mins.

outside I am wearing hat, gloves and doing up my coat properly unlike my pre MJ days. I think my brain is saying it’s got less blubber to keep warm so I need to do something in spite of me still carrying plenty of excess blubber

KitsyWitsy · 11/12/2024 15:58

Very much so. The money I'm spending on heating!!!

raspberrymeringue · 14/12/2024 20:51

Yep, I get this.

MrBirling · 14/12/2024 20:55

It's probably because you're eating less. If the body gets less fuel it compensates by reducing metabolism. That means fewer calories are used to keep you warm. I'm similar and spend a lot of time under a heated throw.

noclouds · 14/12/2024 21:01

I'm so glad it's not just me! I'm always freezing, and live with my heated blanket, and thermals now

JemimaTab · 14/12/2024 21:03

I'm sure I read somewhere that this can happen (feeling cold) when you are losing weight.

Snozzlemaid · 14/12/2024 21:09

For me I think it's a mixture of the Mounjaro and the fact that I no longer have such a huge layer of blubber insulating me.
I've now found myself looking at the thick woolly jumpers in shops and thinking how lovely and cosy they look. I have not owned a thick jumper for about 20 years, I would never get cold enough for one.

Coldandunderablanket · 15/12/2024 09:40

Yes, I am freezing. Initially it was a big side effect for me and I lived under the heated throw shivering. I even seriously considered buying a sleeping bag suit to wear around the house...

Now I'm titrating down after a 4 stone loss and have a bmi of 22.

I'm still cold now but it's because I haven't got a layer of fat on me. I wear a lot of fleecy underarmour/base layers and my new friend - body warmers!

spottedinthewilds · 15/12/2024 10:10

Yes, am peri menopausal and not had a hot flush since taking MJ.

Sprogonthetyne · 15/12/2024 10:14

I've definitely been feeling the cold more, but not sure if that an actual side effect or just the reduction in my natural installation.

Peachesandfizz · 15/12/2024 16:16

Currently wearing a thick jumper, dressing gown and under two thick blankets and I am STILL cold.

olympicsrock · 15/12/2024 16:32

Definitely ! I had this for the 7 months I used mounjaro . It was worst at the beginning before I lost nearly 4 stone. Having stopped 3 weeks ago , there is a big difference . I now throw the covers off at night due to being warm and feel the cold much less again.

user243245346 · 17/12/2024 12:08

Absolutely this. I'm frozen all the time

TuxedoParrot · 17/12/2024 12:19

One thing I’ve noticed - cold cold feet! Sheepskin slippers sound attractive; whenever I’ve tried them before it’s just way too hot! I’ve only been on Mounjara for 2 weeks so it can’t be “loss of insulation” i.e. fat).

msdiscerning · 25/02/2025 19:25

It’s not to do with eating less or because of fat loss it’s a symptom of lowered blood sugar. I had gastric sleeve surgery and for three first year ate barely anything lost 4 stones and was never freezing, I used MJ to help get rid of stubborn final 25 pounds difficult for me to loose due to underlying health issues, the hour after I started my dose I started shivering and it’s not stopped in 2 days. It’s a very common symptom of lowered blood sugar blood sugar, the easiest way to resolve it is to eat something, 1/2 a banana and I stopped shivering. So if you’re shivering eat a bite of something because it’s indicative of your blood sugar being very low

SilenceInside · 25/02/2025 19:32

@msdiscerning I feel cold all the time, I'm not shivering due to low blood sugar. I feel cold all the time regardless of whether I've just eaten or not. So it can't be low blood sugar for everyone who feels the cold. I did see some discussion online about it being possibly an effect on the vagus nerve, but no idea if that's a known or just a hypothesis.

lapuf · 25/02/2025 20:17

I think it's your body conserving energy? Your metabolism can vary +/- 600 kcal per day depending if it thinks you need to expend or conserve more and heat retention is part of that mechanism

FlipFlopsSpots · 25/02/2025 22:13

Yes totally! I'm currently in bed in full pjs, socks, duvet, electric blanket and hot water bottle! I've been carrying a hot water bottle everywhere with me during the day and in the car I have the heaters blowing directly at me :)

BeckiP85 · 26/02/2025 13:19

I'm bloody freezing and getting sick of it. Although I am looking forward to feeling cold in the summer!

Adelstrop · 26/02/2025 17:22

Yes, definitely a side effect. I try to think how comfortable I will be in the summer heat (should that ever happen).

DarkForces · 26/02/2025 17:26

Definitely. Started within hours of my first jab so still had all my insulation and hadn't started calorie reduction yet!

Backgroundnoises · 01/03/2025 15:58

Noticeable side effect for me from the start, but coming to the end of my 4th week, I don't notice it any more so think it's like most side effects and disappears over time. I'm usually boiling all the time so it was such a weird experience for me! Going up to 5mg tomorrow so wonder if it'll start up again?
