Christmas

I’m just interested to know what others plans to do over Christmas eg continue as normal or skip/delay a dose? I’ve been on Mounjaro 10 weeks now and I’ve lost 24lbs which I’m made up with but I’m considering delaying my usual Thursday dose and taking it on the Friday instead. I don’t plan on massively overeating not that I’d be able to anyways but I do plan on sampling a mince pie and I want to be able to enjoy a bit of everything including my dh’s amazing Christmas dinner.

I won't be stopping, I might tweak injection day to avoid side effects but it isn't worth risking my progress. I will just eat less of everything.

Orangesandlemons77 · 05/12/2024 19:04

I'm thinking it will be useful to take my normal dose over the Christmas period to avoid all the rich food to be honest.

Delacorde · 05/12/2024 19:12

Yeah I get what you’re saying. I’m
not bothered about the chocolates or rich puddings but I want to sample everything on my Christmas dinner and maybe enjoy a mince pie but if I take my usual dose I doubt I’d be able to do that.

Carrry on as normal. Christmas is my danger zone. So many failed diets because I think fuck it, you deserve a treat then a stone later I’m off the wagon and I keep gaining. I’ve not brought any treats, no point I won’t eat them. Best bit is I don’t feel like I’m missing out this year.

Bibulous · 05/12/2024 19:14

I'm going to carry on injecting as normal and just have smaller portions. If I stop injecting just so I can stuff my face I know I'll end up eating myself sick and regretting it.

Delacorde · 05/12/2024 19:16

See I don’t know if being a bit naive or not but i feel different since being on mounjaro and I know that if I have Xmas day and Boxing Day “off” that I’ll get straight back on it as I love the feeling of being slimmer and I don’t want to jeopardise that. Prior to mounjaro I just ate bad for the entire Christmas period and gained like 10lbs but it’s different now as I have no interest in going back to that.

Bellyblueboy · 05/12/2024 19:20

I am continuing with my normal injection which will be in boxing night.

I am very similar to you - 11th injection taken tonight and 24lbs lost.

I was at dinner last night - three courses. I ate half of every course. Really enjoyed it. I think that’s what will happen at Christmas. No grazing on treats between meals. I have three stone to lose in total so a while to go.

InfoSecInTheCity · 05/12/2024 19:20

I plan to live through many more xmas's so if I don't eat much xmas dinner this year I'm ok with that if it means I might be a healthy weight for next years xmas dinner.

TidyDancer · 05/12/2024 19:39

I'm sticking with my routine. I inject on Friday nights so will be able to enjoy my Christmas dinner and a few treats but in a controlled way!

Doggymummar · 05/12/2024 19:40

It will take a couple of weeks for your appetite to return to normal ( well it did me) last Christmas I gained 10lb so I'll not be changing a thing.

Puppylucky · 05/12/2024 19:50

I'm carrying on with the injections as normal as I think part of my journey is managing things like Christmas

WynterQueen · 05/12/2024 19:55

I'm stopping from this Sunday, 8th Dec, and likely to restart on Sunday, 29th. Three weeks without an injection will be enough time to get my appetite back and test my changed thoughts around eating.

We all know we can't stay on this forever! I expect a small gain but also to lose it quickly. There is more to life than my current tiny appetite.

HansHolbein · 05/12/2024 19:58

I’m carrying on as normal. Starting 7.5 on Monday.

That's exactly what I think. I usually love Christmas food, and look where that has got me!

I was thinking today of all the things I would've had by now (I've been on Mounjaro since the summer) and the list seemed endless! I don't have the interest in having it, but also, that's the whole bloody point of spending nearly £50 a week, surely? If people are still wanting a big Christmas dinner, they're doing WLI wrong, IMO.

I think most of us will have seen 1st January as the start of a new diet and by 2nd January we feel like failures.

The beauty of Mounjaro, I've found, is that I don't see food as a treat any more, so don't feel deprived at the thought of not eating a lot, or eating very rich food and drinking quite a bit.

HippoPortlyMouse · 05/12/2024 20:20

My dose day is Monday so Xmas day & Boxing day are the highest suppression days. (I don't get a ton of suppression but it's enough to eat lightly and not be hungry.) I'm considering taking a slightly lower dose that week - not so I can overeat, but so I can have some of the rich food and try to avoid side effects. I want a yorkshire pud and a slice of Christmas cake! And I don't want to be stuck in a car on a long drive to visit the inlaws while stinking the place up with sulphur burps - or worse! 😳

SilenceInside · 05/12/2024 20:27

I'm another one who is carrying on as normal. I'm on week 22 and I can't imagine doing anything other than injecting as usual and continuing on as I have been. I realise now I don't care about Christmas food really, I'll enjoy myself just as much just being off work and with family. I'll eat a bit of what is most appealing and then stop. I think I'll actually enjoy not feeling out of control and battling against temptation for once.

Pumpkinforever · 05/12/2024 20:42

I am cracking on with MJ. I will eating and drinking a lot less than usual both at Christmas and New Year.

No we don't because we can. MJ can be prescribed for life. It's okay if some people can't or don't want to though.

Are you going to start on 2.5mg after your 3 weeks break? That's the guidelines though so hoping you don't start from a higher dose afterwards and possibly make yourself ill.

TheGoingGetsEasyAfterItGetsTough · 05/12/2024 20:58

OP, I won't be taking a break for Christmas because I don't see this medication as something to take a break from so that I can eat whatever I want, then go back on it. It's not cosmetic for me but an aid to work on my health and lifestyle. So I'll be taking it along with my other meds and lifestyle activities as usual. The only reason I'd take a short break (not 3 weeks!) is if I'm having terrible side effects and I need to let it pass.

MissSmith80 · 05/12/2024 20:59

My jab day is Tuesday and I can feel a bit off the day after so will either bring my jab forward over the next couple of weeks so I jab on the Sunday 22nd (which would be easier anyway because of travel plans so can leave the pen at home), or leave it until the Thursday when I'll get home again.

I'm taking 3.75 and I'm still getting good suppression all week but that might ease off over the next couple of weeks. I won't risk going up to 5mg in the week before Christmas in case side effects kick in.

I suspect I'll end up jabbing early rather than late so I have good suppression on Christmas Day.

WynterQueen · 05/12/2024 21:16

@TheGoingGetsEasyAfterItGetsTough

I've lost 20 lbs in 8 weeks; I only use 2.5mg. I haven't needed to step up yet. Also I'm 4lbs from target

Witchyandtwitchy · 05/12/2024 21:17

I’m carrying on. But I’m doing another 5mg pen and going up to 7.5 on the 6th Jan.
Dose day is Monday, so I’ll have just a small Christmas dinner and hopefully a few glasses of something. I usually put on around 7lb over Xmas, but really don't want to this year.
I can have a little of the good stuff but can’t go mad. I want to reach my goal by March and still have 2st to go!

Oh well done then. I guess it's why you can afford to do so. You'll be at target soon even after the break.

Myneeboots · 05/12/2024 21:56

I will be going up the next dosage the week of Xmas for the first time.

The jump from 5 to 7.5mg.

Im currently more bothered about getting the weight off then what will be on my plate.
