Unexpected benefits of MJ

SilverHeels · 26/09/2024 17:14

I realised today that I now actually take a proper lunch break and eat proper food.

Since Covid my job has been 90% at home and pre MJ I had no impulse control over food so would snack a lot and then not make a proper lunch and sit at my desk snacking.

Taking a proper lunch break is benefiting me on many levels.

I am also sure that my wiry chin hairs are less frequent now or is that just wishful thinking….

It seems there are other benefits apart from the weight loss and would be interested to hear more experiences.

I wish my chin hairs would feck off but sadly no change there for me.

RobinEllacotStrike · 26/09/2024 20:54

I miraculously simply stopped biting my nails age 56. My nails have grown and I am
Ridiculously pleased about it.

NewLifter · 27/09/2024 08:48

I seem to have a more clear head with less anxiety and overthinking

Sampler · 27/09/2024 09:06

I’m not as hot (menopause) - the oven that was my body previously has subsided and it’s fantastic not being roasting hot a lot. I’d take it for this alone !

unsync · 27/09/2024 09:08

Realising that I can feel hungry and its OK to wait until the next mealtime. Just because I am hungry, doesn't mean I need a snack, I'm not going to keel over for lack of cake / biscuit / whatever comes to hand. It's really helped me hear hunger cues as the food noise is not drowning them out.

Possibly the chin hairs & tache too.

I also have more bandwidth as I'm not constantly thinking about food (what i ate, what am I going to eat, what is there to eat etc). This is the part that all the critics really don't understand.

noclouds · 27/09/2024 14:00

@RobinEllacotStrike and me! How random is that

I also feel like (and I don't like the phrase but) I have more 'head space' which is occupied with a new hobby.

Plus tidier room. As a yo yo dieter I have gone from size 22 to 14 over the last 16 years and so I have clothes in every clothes range. I am finally clearing out the bigger sizes and putting clothes on Vinted and I have almost halved the clothes in my wardrobe

Seems obvious but I have also lost weight on my feet, so shoes that were too tight and I couldn't wear now fit

Orangesandlemons77 · 27/09/2024 14:23

Thin I may be getting a bit of help with chronic pain.

ginnybag · 27/09/2024 14:31

Period pain.

I've been miserable for the first 36 hours every month of my life, even after it improved post baby. Weight up or down, no difference. Size 8 or 18.

This month, for the first time, I haven't been. I've taken one ibuprofen once, and that's that. It might be coincidence - time will tell.

I'm a lot more 'awake' now. I was falling asleep on the sofa most evenings - I've done that once in 3 weeks.

RobinEllacotStrike · 27/09/2024 14:39

I gave up on "dieting" and haven't done so for a few years now. So a couple of months ago I donated some too small but lovely pieces of clothing I had been holding onto for several years. I then discover MJ 😁

I could be wearing them now!

Darlinghag · 27/09/2024 15:28

oh I have a great one!

Had my gallbladder removed in 2015 and my life has been severely impacted by it! Like, to the point where I work from home because of my digestive issues. I also heavily relied on lopermide when out of the house. Its been debillitating.

MJ has almost gotten rid of this problem for me, due to the slow digestive properties. i am on week 6 and where as previously (without Immodium) I would have digestive issues multiple times a day, I can honestly say I have had maybe 3 instances since where I’ve urgently needed the loo. And its instances rather than multiple times a day.

Of those 3 instances, 1 I know why it happened (ate fancy asian food out, not a huge volume, but lots of oil!), the other two I haven’t been able to figure out but its so much better! I honestly feel like its changed the game for me! i got to go away with work and eat with colleagues!

I genuinely would take it if i didnt lose weight, its so worth it!!

i think its also been the reason why i dont have the sulfur burps etc, my system has been slowed to ‘normal’ rather than too slow if you see?

I also have PCOS and while I can’t say facial hair growth has stopped, it seems to be growing back slower so I will take that!

RobinEllacotStrike · 27/09/2024 16:26

thats amazing @Darlinghag

I've watched a few YT videos with doctors talking about all these different positive "side effects" of MJ & OZ.

I wonder if the "modern western diet" & the normalisation of quite disordered eating/overeating, has been dramatically affecting GLP1 & GIP peptides and/or receptors of these peptides in lots of people which manifests in so many different conditions - varying from person to person.

For me it also makes me feel calm and happy - an effect in my brain. The nail biting is a subconscious nervous habit I've never been able to shake off. On MJ, the issue is gone!

@Sampler - the same. I'm 51, still in peri-menopause and was about to explore HRT before starting MJ, due to really bad hot flushes and low mood/ irritability. Haven't had a hot flushes in 3 weeks since starting , my mood has definitely lifted and I feel a lot calmer. Fingers crossed it continues.

I’ve been wondering if it’s a modern diet and lifestyle issue too! Or maybe a side effect of obesity? I’m glad I can raise my kids with an understanding of UPF and hopefully without an obese mum soon. I don’t want them to have the same issues I’ve had.

OP my pain levels are much better, my energy is steadier and better. MUCH less period pain, I need and want less caffeine. DH says my mood is more level. TBH the doctors talking about these “side effects” helped push me over the edge to trying it. There are also a lot of lifestyle interventions for healthy diets that I wanted to follow to help my overall health, but I just kept sabotaging myself

Sampler · 27/09/2024 20:42

@Ilovegoodison thats great ! It’s so nice not having sweats and hot legs (of the non sexy variety 🤣).
I am wondering if the excessive amount of sugar and processed food I ate were adding to menopausal symptoms too.

Impossiblyme · 28/09/2024 09:00

It’s changed so much for me.

I’ve given up vaping for one. After about 6-7 years of trying. I’ve just had the quiet mind to stop. And I don’t seem to miss it at all. Oh and biting my nails.

I’ve also had the head space to completely declutter pretty much all of my house. I feel so much better about everything.

Because I feel more confident in myself, it’s helping me at work too. And I’m actually looking forward to certain events because I know I’ll look and feel a much better version of myself than I did before I started on MJ.

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 28/09/2024 10:29

I no longer get hangovers, not at all.

Autumnalchick · 28/09/2024 11:17

Sounds nuts but I genuinely believe it stopped me having food poisoning.
I have the most sensitive stomach so get really ill if I eat something that is past it's best. However since MJ slows digestion it stopped me being ill recently, the food wouldn't digest so I was sick but once I'd gotten rid of it all I was then perfectly fine. Previously my digestion would have meant I would then have illness for atleast a week with sickness and diarrhoea.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 28/09/2024 13:06

The black chin/top lip hairs no longer appear daily!! I seem to only have one or two pop up every couple of weeks!!

But the biggest one is the fact that I can take or leave alcohol having had a major wine habit! I know now that is very common but I really didn't expect it when I started.

Neolara · 28/09/2024 13:34

Reduced joint pain, seemingly unrelated to weight loss.

rainydaysaway · 28/09/2024 18:20

What dose is everyone on to get these effects? I have just taken my first 2.5 dose.

Sampler · 28/09/2024 21:25

@rainydaysaway just the same as you, 2.5

VWT5 · 28/09/2024 21:35

Also noticed I am balanced, calm, happier and with no anxiety. Just feeling level headed and happy.

Sense of humour has been on top form (another indicator of how well I am in myself)

Also off pain killers for 2 months now (osteoarthritis).

TryingAgainAgainAgain · 13/10/2024 14:44

Can I ask how soon people began to notice reduction in pain? @VWT5 and anyone else?

Neolara · 13/10/2024 16:05

For me, it was about a week.

MounjaroUser · 13/10/2024 17:48

There've been so many benefits for me. Total lack of interest in alcohol and chocolate - I would stay on it for life for that alone. The chin hairs have miraculously disappeared. I can go into a supermarket and just come out with what I intended, and can walk past all the typical "treats" without even noticing them. If I fancy a biscuit I can just think "Oh I'll have one later if I want one" and then forget all about it. If I do have a biscuit I just have one and always go for a plain one. Every year I think "I have to lose weight before my birthday" and now I have. It's the first time I've stuck to a diet for so long - I don't even think of it as a diet. I don't think of it at all actually, unless I'm on a thread here or talking to my friend about it. If I'd been on a diet for even a week I would have been obsessed by it and would always, always know I'd fail.
