Yes @Willowy1982 I’m trying to avoid MJ noise. I’m not counting calories or macros, haven’t told anyone in ‘the real world’. I look through the MJ threads here on mumsnet, but haven’t got into groups etc on other types of social media. I’m even trying to not read here daily, but just pop in a few times a week.

I know exactly what you mean about hyperfocusing, and I’ve definitely been guilty of this with other diets in the past. It soon burns out and I quit when I need to focus on something else, because I’ve convinced myself that the diet needs lots of time / planning / work.

For MJ to work for me, it needs to be long term, and for it to last long term it needs to be a mundane bit of routine, not a shiny new exciting thing.

Pinkjenny · 06/09/2024 07:14

Hiding the scales might be a good idea, thank you. I'm also completely hyper fixating on the whole thing as well.

Ok last time I'm going to ask, so you can't administer the bonus dose with one of the normal needles we screw on? Or are we not doing that because then we don't know how much to inject? I don't suppose anyone who has done it would PM me and tell me how to do it?

I've lost my 5mg nerve a bit Blush

MooFroo · 06/09/2024 07:23

@Pinkjenny thars how I did my bonus dose last week - bought the needles from Amazon, had to twist really hard and keep tugging it but did it -

I watched a YouTube video on how to get the bonus dose out
1 minute of some guy showing how to do it - the trick was twisting hard on the pen until it clicks

good luck!

im starting 5mg tomorrow so let’s see!

NippyCrab · 06/09/2024 07:25

Good morning, it's my Friday weigh in and I'm 2lbs down this week, I'm a wee half pound away from my small target, I'm doing smaller targets of a half stone at a time until my goal weight.

SW - 14st 6.8lbs (on MJ 13st 11.8lbs)
CW - 13st 0.8lbs
GW - 10st 7lbs

Wingingit11 · 06/09/2024 07:32

@Pinkjenny you can also buy an insulin needle from a chemist and simply put needle in the end of pen, and draw it up and inject via same needle. Needle tends to be a bit longer but I didn’t find it painful and wanted to be able to se how much bonus dose ml I was injecting

Yes this is exactly it. I take other medications and don't hyperfixate on those so I need to have the same approach with this. Although MJ does seem a bit magical at times 🙈 Well I've officially put the scales out of reach so it's not so easy to jump on them first thing in the morning every day. I sat in bed with a coffee and my journal this morning rather than getting on the spin bike. I don't need to exercise every day, I'm allowed to rest too. This needs to be my life and routine not something that I give all my energy to.

Morning! I’ve just had my 3rd jab. Scales are just on the cusp of 3kg lost. We went out to celebrate our wedding anniversary last night and I had a good meal with two glasses of wine but no pud. We walked there and back and I ate very little beforehand. I feel good about it. It is amazing for my body to do what it’s meant to do - I’ve never seen scales move like this. Today I’ve just had a protein shake with a banana. Lunch will be a pitta bread with roasted cauliflower chickpeas and kale with tzatziki. Lasagne tonight. My daughter has been diagnosed with celiac so we have moved to gluten free - it’s a bit of a scramble.

WitchDancer · 06/09/2024 08:04

It's so lovely to hear everyone's stories about looser clothing and how they have enjoyed a night out.

I was pleased to get into a pair of trousers yesterday that haven't fitted for a good couple of years, which was really great.

WitchDancer · 06/09/2024 08:06

Oh, and mentioning the insulin needles, I don't realise you should put it in at an angle rather than straight. If you don't then the medication will leak out.

GoodLuckBabe · 06/09/2024 08:08

@Pinkjenny when people talk about the ‘bonus dose’ there are two bits to it.

  1. Usually there is another regular sized dose of 2.5mg (or whatever pen you have). I took this with an extra pen needle from a pack that I bought, as I was only sent 4 by my provider. This entailed a ‘hard twist’ of the pen as it did not turn easily to ‘1’ as the dose is not intended to be used. A hard twist just meant forcing it past whatever was blocking it. Sometimes people find they are unable to do this hard twist for some reason, and so use an insulin syringe to extract the medication.
  2. There is often a small amount of medication still remaining even once you have used the bonus dose described above. So people sometimes choose to inject this as well so as to provide a slightly larger dose, as a halfway-house up to the next pen. For me, I didn’t take this, but I did get an insulin syringe to play around with so I knew what the options were for next time. I was not able to access this small quantity by a twist of the pen. I was able to extract it with a syringe. I didn’t inject it as I have never used a syringe before and wasn’t confident to. Using a syringe means you can see how much you have drawn up and thereby work out what your total dose is if you use it.
So if you are content just to take the fifth bonus dose of your usual dose then you should be able to do this with a pen needle.

Does that help at all? It is confusing!

FlappingMadly · 06/09/2024 08:08

My insulin needles are tiny and are inserted same way.

I was under the impression that she took the 4th dose plus the bonus, but I seem to have got that wrong. Sorry.

The bonus is about 0.9ml.

I thought she'd taken the normal 4th dose and all of the bonus, too.

Yes me too, it read as though she had drawn up everything left in the pen and injected it which would have been more than a double dose, as she was at week 4 rather than week 5.

Phew!

This is so helpful!! Thank you!! I'm going to try the hard twist!

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/09/2024 08:48

I've lost a lb. Happy with that after malteaser box gate 😂

Didn't think I would lose anything tbh

That's 13 in 3w !!

SW 16.3
CW 15.4

I've taken my first 5 today as don't think I got the whole 2.5 with the pen jamming on dose 3 so took the 4th dose a couple of days later as was having cravings etx and when malteasers and cashews happened

Def need to go up

Hope I don't get too many symptoms

Usually have bad nausea tiredness and have had headaches so time will tell

Well done to all with losses this week!

I had a chicken burger and salad for my tea last night and Jesus wept I felt sick as a dog afterwards. It was within my deficit but I checked the box afterwards and it had 21g of fat in it. I wonder if it's that!

Anyway, I feel very dodgy today. Jab 3 tomorrow and thanks to all that have given me advice on the bonus dose. I'm definitely going to try the hard twist and if not, I should have my 5mg pen anyway.

Still waiting for Zava to approve it, it's been a couple of days and nothing.

Its ok. Mistakes happen and for as many people who confused themselves when reading my post there were just as many who didn’t.

JohnCravensNewsround · 06/09/2024 10:05

12lbs in 4 weeks. I am really pleased and really feel like there has been a shift in my mindset. Moving up to 5mg tomorrow. Bit nervous about side effects ( I moved injecting from Weds to Fri because of this). I can, for the first time in years, visualise being slimmer.

TheShellBeach · 06/09/2024 10:08

Argh. I've hit another plateau.

Stuck at 15st 8lb for a week now.

Oh well, it'll be nice to get a whoosh when it comes.

JohnCravensNewsround · 06/09/2024 10:08

The only side effects I had on 2.5 mg was the runs with a bit of cramping ( short lived). The first few weeks I had a bit of brain fog for 2 days after, hence swapping to Saturday to jab

cosylife · 06/09/2024 10:25

I’ve weighed a day early today and I’m chuffed! Lost another 3lbs!

SW: 16.3
CW: 15.1
Loss so far: 16 lbs

That’s 3 weeks of feeling so liberated and in charge of my food decisions! Had a bottle of wine every week, a takeaway one week and can’t believe how amazing MJ is that I’ve lost weight still. Before I would have given up by now and binged on crisps, takeaways and chocolate but I’ve lost interest in eating emotionally which is life changing.

Going to do my measurements tomorrow so fingers crossed there’s a reduction there too.

Hope everyone is doing well!
