I know it’s very easy to get obsessive but honestly agonising over daily fluctuations and feeling shame about eating are not going to help anyone. I do it too - but these kind of negative ‘diet head’ behaviours are exactly why we ended up needing mounjaro in the first place!

Severe restriction and then thinking ‘sod it it’s not working’ because I’d cracked and eaten something not on the plan, or because of a normal weight fluctuation, was such an established pattern for me - I’d then go and finish the packet of biscuits or tub of ice cream because the day was a ‘write off’ anyway, might as well get it all in before starting again tomorrow/ after the weekend/ definitely before Christmas etc etc. I’m seeing mounjaro as my chance to fix this mindset. I’m trying to hard to just trust the process - I didn’t become obese overnight and I’m not going to lose it overnight either. It was amazing when the mounjaro just turned off every thought about food or desire to eat - but it doesn’t seem to work like that 100% of the time for me so in the in between times I see it as practicing living healthily but normally with just that extra bit of help.

In your real, post-mounjaro life you’re going to eat processed carbs or some chocolate occasionally unless you really do get the keto evangelical bug which admittedly some people do - it’s just not going to be me! But if you look at your intake over the whole week, it’s hopefully going to be so much better than it was previously. That’s enough for me.

Having said that - I feel horrendous today. First instance of the sulphur burps that people talk about, shaky and sick. Not sure if it’s to do with the class last night, or my last injection took a couple of days to kick in with the side effects! I’ve had an electrolyte drink and just sipping a mint tea, but not been able to think about food yet.

This is a very good point, I definitely didn't go off the rails last night as I usually would have done.

TinaTotal · 04/09/2024 10:39

@Blondeshavemorefun but it took them 8 days to dispatch it 😱 I couldn't order earlier as I was waiting for payday 🥹

I don’t see it as black and white thinking. Taking Mounjaro gives the space to think think things through. We are all, I’m assuming, thinking a long game.

Oh absolutely, I'm all for thinking things through, and if you can do that dispassionately by noticing what works for you, what happens when you eat one type of food vs another, and then making changes accordingly to get to a way of eating that suits you best and meets your goals best - that's the dream isn't it?

But there's a danger - for me at least - of thinking that's what you're doing but actually it is getting a bit disordered. I don't think feeling ashamed, demonising any particular food group, or thinking it's not working because my body has had a perfectly normal daily fluctuation in weight, is going to do anything positive for me or help to build a healthy relationship with food.

Hi I've just done the first 4 weeks on 2.5 n now started 5mg (Sunday).
I lost 10lbs in the first 4 weeks.

SW 13st
CW 12.3st
Goa 10st

Anyone else on 5mg found they feel terribly sick n have horrible heartburn if they eat any junk? Particularly anything high in sugar
I snacked on some milk tray on Monday night n didn't sleep for heartburn. I'm taking it as a useful tool, means I'm more likely to avoid the sugar now. So hopefully quicker results as it's an expensive diet I'd like as much off as quickly as possible!

HappilyRed · 04/09/2024 10:51

Just checking in. Got through my first week fairly unscathed, a little bit of nausea and really tired on Thursday and Friday but nothing traumatic! Next dose 2.5mg ready for this evening, after a big (ish) dinner, as I barely ate the day after injecting last week.

SW: 211.6
CW: 206.6

I’ve lost 5lb which seems madness to me- I’ve always been a steady 0.5-1lb a week loser, so feeling pretty pleased right now!

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/09/2024 11:39

My new replacement 5mg pen is here

It's cold. I'm happier

Also just looked at date of 2.5 and says 9/2024

So ending its life which makes me wonder how potent it can be

New pen is 2/2025 so happier with that

Will go to 5 on Fri after 3w on 2.5 as it's not enough for me I don't think sue to the malteaser incident

Then why do they say 9/24 .....

Either way that pen won't be used again

@Blondeshavemorefun yes im excited for 5 too!

AnnieMcFanny · 04/09/2024 12:26

Then why do they say 9/24 .....

I’ve no idea. I honestly didn’t give it any thought. The first sentence saying it could be used till 3/25 was all I read.

MissFancyDay · 04/09/2024 12:27

I still can't decide whether to take the bonus dose on Friday or start my 5mg pen which is safely in the fridge.

I still seem to be losing at about 2 lbs a week but it's taking a lot of willpower and food noise is ever present. But it's soooo expensive and I don't know if I can waste it. I just don't know what to do.

weaseleyes · 04/09/2024 12:30

Why not measure out the bonus dose, which will probably be more than 2.5, have that, and if you're not too ill and it's doing nothing, you could make up the difference from your 5 pen a couple of days later. Effectively you'd be using a bit of the 5 pen bonus dose in advance. Then your next one could be the full 5 on your usual day

weaseleyes · 04/09/2024 12:31

That's what I'd do anyway - I'm not letting a single drop of it ever go to waste if I can help it, it's so costly!

NeedSomeAnswersPlease · 04/09/2024 12:34

Technically the leftover liquid isn't a bonus dose - it's extra liquid in there to prevent you using up your doses as you prime. You're paying for it technically but you don't have to use it

weaseleyes · 04/09/2024 12:35

That's why it's called a bonus! But if you use it as a dose you're able to reduce the overall cost of the other doses.

TheShellBeach · 04/09/2024 12:58

weaseleyes · 04/09/2024 12:35

Exactly!

When people say it's just a tiny amount, if they actually measured it, they'd discover it was 0.3ml. For example, in a 10mg pen, that's 5mg of MJ.

It's far too expensive to waste.

The full dose of whatever strength pen you're using is only 0.6ml. If you saw that on the back of your hand you'd see what a tiny volume of fluid it is. It just looks more because of the shape of the pen.

NeedSomeAnswersPlease · 04/09/2024 12:59

@TheShellBeach I thought people on here were saying the bonus in a 2.5mg pen amounts to 3.75mg? I'm confused because if it was a bonus wouldn't it need to be at least the entire dose?

Yes, when you measure it, there's between 0.8ml and 0.9ml of MJ 2.5mg strength.

That's either 3.33mg or 3.75mg of MJ.

That's why you need to measure it. Don't guess. You need syringes and needles for this.

Arghhh I'm so cross with MedExpress. Ordered my 5mg pen beginning of last week and they've only just dispatched it, I was supposed to take my dose on Monday so it's going to be 4 days late if gets here tomorrow! Has anyone had a gap like that? Will it be ok?

Also I'm a week late for my period has anyone else had a messed up cycle on MJ?

Yes I came on two days ago but was about 10 days late. I’m usually pretty regular. I don’t know whether it’s the MJ, the losing weight or a combo of both. Either way I’m not too fussed if it is delaying my period but if it’s common I can stop amazon-ing pregnancy tests every month 😂 this is my first period since starting MJ.

TheShellBeach · 04/09/2024 13:15

The remainder in each pen is variable, depending on how much you've used to prime it.

There's a full dose, plus some extra, once you've used the four doses.

cosylife · 04/09/2024 13:23

I’m not going to do the bonus dose for my 2.5mg pen, but might do with the 5mg pen.

I’m feeling great suppression and the food noise is non existent which genuinely feels life changing. I feel so much happier, calmer, healthier and I’m only 3 weeks in. I weighed today as I’ve felt a bit lighter (weigh day is usually Saturday) and I’ve officially lost a stone. I’m over the moon!

Cant remember the last time I had crisps, sweets or chocolate, it just doesn’t interest me as much anymore and weirdly I’m not sad about it. I still have coffee, have salmon and eggs every morning, had a homemade burger last night. I love how this is changing my relationship with food and dependence on emotional and boredom eating too.

Just had my 5mg pen prescribed - is it odd that I’m excited for it?! Haha
