Mounjaro just arrived! Diet ideas help

Hi all! My mounjaro pen just got here! Feel so excited, but also so nervous that I feel a bit... squicky in my tummy 🥴😳

Nerves mainly cos of my anxiety. What if I die type silliness 🤦‍♀️ ill get over it. But also cos I'm alone with my (feral)one year old and I'm worried ill get super sick! Won't know til I try it. So ill get over it!

So I need to top up shop today and I'm trying to think of meals that I will enjoy but that are based on protein and veg type stuff, i also eat lots of dairy. No carbs I would rather use tummy space on protein I don't need many carbs as not that active really. I also need easy and quick (cos of said one year old who is yet to walk, but thinks the house is his very own climbing frame so can't be left alone for long incase he falls!)

I'm thinking stuff like chicken wraps (carbs but not too many), coleslaw and chicken, some easy stuff really.

Does anyone have any ideas please to help me craft a shopping list? Preferably as cheap as possible to offset the cost of the injection pen!

Thanks in advance ☺️

Have a look at the "what I ate today" thread for some ideas. There's a lot of us struggling to eat enough of the right stuff but it might help

unsync · 13/08/2024 12:47

When I started, I just ate my usual stuff, just less of it. I use an app called mynetdiary. It will analyse what you are eating and then you can work out what needs to go and what you need to add in.

Don't try and run before you can walk.
Remember that you are making changes that will last your whole life, so you have time to do things gradually. The main thing is consistency. Small changes, applied consistently will become habits.

NikKai · 13/08/2024 12:58

Thank you 😊 no way I can eat what I currently do, it's indescribably unhealthy and I'm more than happy eating nice healthy food. I need to break my very unhealthy relationship with food also. But it's only the start, one step at a time!

I did my first injection in the evening, in the hope that any side effects would kick in whilst I slept. I have a 2 year old so was also concerned.

My first day after my first 2.5 injection I was exhausted and felt pretty sick, but felt a lot better the day after and so far my side effects have been minimal. I didn't specifically meal plan, but just ate way less than usual and have been trying in recent weeks to eat a bit more protein, but I've really just gone with the flow.

I'm now in week 5 and down 16lbs.

Good luck!

Callmejudith · 13/08/2024 13:01

If you're going shopping I would focus on protein rich foods (not stuff like protein puddings) as if you get the MJ effects straightaway you'll not be hungry but will need to make sure you're getting protein as a priority.

I like granola with greek yog, chicken with salad, those merchant gourmet lentil pouches, ready to go fish, tuna, salmon.

That's brilliant thank you 😊 I got lots of lovely fresh stuff on my shop. Fucking dear isn't it for proper fresh stuff! Worth it though. Focussed on fiber, good fats, and protein. First pen tonight, gosh I'm nervous!

I’d suggest you do stock up on just a couple of protein shakes/yogs, for not other reason but to have something on hand in case you can’t face real food. I have been really lucky with no significant side effects but felt terribly nauseous for a day after my first injection. I only managed 1 protein shake that whole entire day, but was glad I had something on hand!

Oh and try to minimize anything rich/fatty - that also did not agree with me!

You seem to have the right idea and motivation, I have no doubt you’ll be successful! Hopefully you don’t get any side effects! 🤞🏻

Four weeks on 2.5 and I've lost a stone.
Start 5 next Monday ( l inject night time).
No side effects at all.. though l stocked up on peppermint oil capsules and ginger tea etc just in case.
Breakfast is either 1 weetabix with semi skimmed milk ( used to eat 2).
Or a boiled egg with tomatoes/ Mushrooms done in airfryer.
Come lunchtime I'm not hungry. Will have a fruit bowl of melon/ grapes/ blueberries/ raspberries etc
Tea time is either
Chicken stir fry ( no rice with it like l used to) or
Smoked haddock with veg.
Or jacket potato with Tuna / onion/ cucumber.
Or a feta and ham salad
I just feel like l want to eat " clean".
No cravings for chocolate or pastry or cream cakes or crisps like l used to.
I don't get hunger pangs ( those sick feeling hunger pangs).
So hopefully I'll feel the same when l go up to 5.
Good luck x

It came yesterday, I keep wussing out of doing it! I'm scared to death of needles and I'm scared of side effects.. need a grip, anyone have one?

OP posts:
3wDavid · 14/08/2024 17:38

Honestly you won’t feel it. Go for it, you’ve got this

NikKai · 14/08/2024 19:25

I think it's more anxiety about side effects. And I had a panic attack last night just as I was drifting off to sleep, so no actual reason. (Shaky mental health, ptsd due to trauma so therapy is throwing up some stuff)
I'm scared if I take it then I'll start with bad anxiety about possible side effects and end up with another panic attack.

I have a one year old and have had a really really horrific time (he was taken as I was suicidal, I was thrown in a mental hospital, I had to fight in court for mother and baby unit for parental assessment, passed that after 4 and half months flying colours and the support helped my mental health tremendously, then home with my boy and final court- he's now "child in need" on a supervision order for one year instead of "child in care", in other words he's all mine and the local authority have to provide support for a year, then it lapses) so...

Yeah. It's been a lot. The only thing I can control is food. By starving as punishment, or binging as a treat. I'm scared to let that go. Also really scared of another panic attack

Sorry for the ramble. Tough year

Felt weird to say all that, cathartic. Don't think I have ever expressed to anyone before about my eating issues. Despite being an over sharer (as you can tell haha)

It's surprisingly easy to do the injection.

The needle is absolutely teeny tiny. I put it in my tummy and I honestly don't feel it.

It's not like getting a vaccination. It doesn't hurt at all.

Wishing you loads of luck. I'm 2 weeks in and have lost 6lbs. No side effects apart from loss of appetite.

Do read all the mounjaro threads. They are so cathartic. Many of us feel the same.

Luvvies · 14/08/2024 19:36

I'm starting on Sunday. Have to wait til then as I'm often away from home midweek but I have the pen ready so it's good to see someone else thinking through the food choice changes.
Go on you can do it!

I read a few. It's weird because logically I understand and know this is what I want. And I'm so excited to finally feel normal when I lose weight. Its what I want. I'm just scared to take that first step emotionally. Maybe losing my bad eating habits will leave space in my head for other more productive things?

OK. OK I'm gonna do it. If mental son will let me 😂 he's always interested in EVERYTHING I do! Even now he's peering over my shoulder to see my phone .. Best do it in the kitchen. Don't think it'll be good to accidentally jab my baby with a mounjaro pen. Imagine trying to explain that to the social worker 🥴😳😳🤣

Callmejudith · 14/08/2024 19:45

@NikKai that made me laugh! Have you done it??

NikKai · 14/08/2024 19:56

Been stood here since the post my fingers ache from pinching skin. I can't make myself do it! I birthed a child for fuck sake

OP posts:
Luvvies · 14/08/2024 20:10

Hope you find the strength, if you really want to, and I think you do!

Fumnudge · 14/08/2024 20:16

I detest needles (except when administered by professionals).
Couldn't do it myself and even ran away when husband tried. Then I just thought fuck it, I'm in charge of my own life, and did it! Was fine. You'll be fine. Realise it's nothing and not a big deal in the slightest

SilenceInside · 14/08/2024 20:19

The injections honestly and genuinely do not hurt. I can't even feel it when I do them and rely on looking at what I'm doing to make sure I've actually made contact with my body!

NikKai · 14/08/2024 20:31

I couldnt do it and my hands hurt from grabbing. After another 15 mins (and a cut on my leg from scratching myself with the needle 🤦‍♀️) I got my neighbour to come and do it.

Didn't feel a thing. I'm sure he did it wrong 🤣

Luvvies · 14/08/2024 20:43

Amazing well done doesn't matter how, you did it!
