Thinking about starting mounjaro. Any advice?

So, I’m thinking about doing this, but I’m very scared of the side effects, the cost is a big issue too, what if it doesn’t work?
I don’t want my surgery contacted due a couple of receptionist and confidentiality
Lots of people are talking about counting calories,
I don’t actually eat much proper food, I tend to have 2 rich tea biscuits at 5.30 am and then at 1pm, I’ll have a packet of crisps and then at 6pm, if I fancy it, I’ll have a small bowl of what I’ve cooked for tea, usually chilli, curry, meat and salady stuff , so my concern is that the fact I’m so picky about food, because so many things upset my tummy
i am desperate, I need to lose weight due to my size and the fact I get so out of breath doing anything!

Any advice please?

What is your weight and BMI? You really aren’t eating much so why aren’t you losing weight naturally?

TidyDancer · 10/08/2024 20:34

Most of the online pharmacies will notify your GP surgery you are on this medication, I'm not sure if that's an issue for you given what you said. You could go via a private GP to get the prescription without notifying your surgery though.

I'm not using mounjaro myself yet but am thinking about it in the next couple of months so shamelessly jumping on board your thread, hope you don't mind!

I struggle to do any exercise due to weight and health

to be honest I haven’t weighed for a while and last time I was nearly 20 stone, I’m a size 26/28
5ft 4 and haven’t got a clue about my BMI

There is no way you are only eating that and are that size tbh . It's literally calories in and out and you expend about 3500 a day at that size .
The jabs only make you less hungry so you don't eat as much , they aren't magic . It reduces your calorie intake and then you lose weight .

Punkrockprincess · 10/08/2024 20:58

Agree with @boredybored no way you are eating that little op.

Mounjaro is not magic. You need to come out of denial first. Try starting a food diary.

OlympicsFanGirl · 10/08/2024 21:04

It sounds like mounjaro is perfect for you.

Give you time to lose some weight, get into better eating habits. Once you get some weight off you will have more energy and can then think about some exercise too.

Hi. I’ve just taken my 5th injection today. I’m 18lbs down and have had no side effects.
my main food is protein. If I really can’t be bothered to eat I make myself have some cheese or some cooked chicken or similar.
I have my main meal in the evening. Protein and veg. I work away from home a lot and have to eat out but that’s not been a problem. I just say no potatoes or whatever and they often just give me extra veg.
Main thing is I stop eating as soon as I am full.
I’m using Voy. If you’d like a discount code, message me and I can send you one.
Everyone has a different experience but mine has been very positive.

EricCatman · 10/08/2024 21:10

If that’s how little you eat, there is no reason why you’d not be losing weight.

Selok · 10/08/2024 21:14

Honestly, it has been the best thing I have done! I tried many things over the years nothing worked until I started this treatment. I am on 7.5 mg now lost just over a stone in 3.5 months it is not magic you lose steadily sometimes low sometimes you stall but it does work overall. I did have side effects of nausea first then it has been better, sometimes I find it hard to keep up with filling my daily calories as the food noise is gone! If you eat naughty then you feel indigestion and bad stomach so next time you don't even attempt to touch them. And it did help me get out of HRT treatment i am off my gels now and feel much happier

It’s the cost I’m concerned about, I’ve looked online and used discount codes and it still comes up very expensive

If you aren't losing weight on so little calories, as you've stated, then MJ won't help you.

MJ doesn't make you lose weight, it makes you eat fewer calories.

I genuinely do only eat what I say I’m eating, I just can’t eat big meals and I don’t really like eating cooked hot food, give me crisps and biscuits over anything!

No it doesn't, it sounds like it'd be terrible. For someone who has stomach issues something that slows down digestion is not a good choice. Also if OP is genuinely only eating those things they've mentioned then they need a thorough check over to see what's going on.

Kebarbra · 10/08/2024 21:50

What you have listed would be well below the BMR of someone your height and weight, please get checked out if you are genuinely eating this and putting on weight- something metabolic must be going on. I'd also write down every single thing and work out the calories, chances are if you're picking rather than having meals you're eating more cals than you think, in which case I'd try cutting down first off.

GinForBreakfast · 10/08/2024 21:58

I am also sceptical about the number of calories that you are consuming. If you aren't eating them are you drinking lots of calorific drinks?

If that is genuinely your diet then you are likely to be malnourished. I'm surprised you don't have scurvy if you are not eating any fresh fruit or vegetables.

BananaSpanner · 10/08/2024 22:07

Two Rich teas -=100 cals approx
packet of crisps= 170 cals
Small bowl of curry/meat and salad type stuff = 600 cals maybe

Thats less than 900 calories a day (unless you are drinking litres of sugary drinks)
You need to get checked out by your doctor to see why you are that weight whilst eating so little. Mounjaro won’t be good for you as you don’t need to eat less calories.

BananaSpanner · 10/08/2024 22:09

If you won’t go to the GP because of the receptionist then consider changing practice.

boredybored · 10/08/2024 22:13

@BrendaSmall but you must be eating many calories of biscuits etc . They do add up ..you must be eating at least 2000 calories of buscuits and crisps daily to stay at that weight . They don't satiate you so you don't realise what you are eating . Although they are small they still have calories ..

I'd download nutra check and log everything and be really honest with yourself

boredybored · 10/08/2024 22:14

True .. drinks could be the issue . If you drink full fat / sugar options or juice they really add up .. or sugar in tea etc and milk is very calorific .. something doesn't add up here . The bigger you are the more calories you burn so you would be burning loads just by existing . You don't need to exercise

90yomakeuproom · 10/08/2024 22:16

I am around 6 weeks into mounjaro and have lost 20lb I would 100% recommend. Mounjaro works by suppressing appetite though so if you're not eating much anyway it might not work.

I definitely don’t eat many crisps and biscuits, I have a couple of biscuits for breakfast at 5.30 and 1 packet of crisps for dinner at work

ive always been overweight but it got worse when I had an accident and was in hospital for a week and then I basically had 12 weeks of just sitting on my ass, since then it’s gone up lots. I was fairly active until the accident

Unfortunately where I live we only have one surgery

the receptionist is a neighbour and we’ve had problems with her before telling other neighbours our business and the surgery manager took her word over ours when she told another neighbour our daughter was pregnant before my daughter even got the results back from the dr!

I’m meant to only drink water due to bladder issues, but I also drink coffee too, I only have a tiny bit of milk due to not liking it
