Am I daft to discuss starting Mounjaro with my GP?

Hey I know there are lots of Mounjaro threads but I'm hoping this one gets a wee reply or 2. I want to start Mounjaro, I've checked the interactions with 2 medications I am on, Quetiapine 50mg and Sertraline 150mg and there's no issues I can see. I have a Dr app next Thursday about my HRT issues and I also want to ask if she would support me on Mounjaro or at least check my medication interactions for reassurance.
My question is, if your GP is aware of your use of Mounjaro what was their opinion? I don't want to have it vetoed without them listening to my reasoning.
😊

I absolutely love voy. I like that it's a subscription so I don't have to keep ordering, it just arrives at the right time. I also love my coach, she's lovely. I wasn't sure about the coaching idea when I started but I thought I'd give the first appointment a go and found it very emotional. That's definitely because my over eating is emotionally linked though. She got to know me well within half an hour and has remembered a lot about me. We message about 5 times a week (some are automated but other are personal replies)
There's a lot to the app I haven't used but really should, but I've kept to the basics for now.
I have a 40% off code of you are interested? Let me know.

Oh wow - thanks for the advice. I had absolutely no idea. How amazing of you to offer such help.

Hello, I am thinking of ordering Mounjaro from Asda but there are several options. Is the injectable pen £134 for one week or one month?

Peridot1 · 15/05/2025 08:08

@Starlightwarrior - I haven’t used Asda but it will be for a month. Well four weeks. Each pen has four doses.

Starlightwarrior · 15/05/2025 08:30

@Peridot1thankyou. I am apprehensive and need to read up more. Ideally I'd like to to take it for, say, three months in order to reset my overeating but then need a plan to maintain without it.
Thanks again.

Peridot1 · 15/05/2025 08:37

@Starlightwarrior Definitely do your research. The medications are an amazing tool but not a magic wand. And you definitely still need to eat properly and have a plan for life afterwards. Eating lots of protein and fibre is really important.

Starlightwarrior · 15/05/2025 08:46

@Peridot1 thanks so much - I am on to it this morning. Can't manage to fund more than three months so will weigh the possible (if any) benefits up bearing that in mind.

Peridot1 · 15/05/2025 11:20

@Starlightwarrior - this thread might be worth reading.

Edited to say mainly so you can see how some people who have come off the meds are maintaining their losses.

MagsHa · 06/06/2025 10:11

Quitiapine can make you gain weight it’s one of the most common side effects, but you can still lose weight on it and Mounjaro as I have done.

I discussed all of this with my GP before I started and he was really helpful. Wishing you good luck on your weight loss journey.

Fairyflaps · 06/06/2025 10:16

If you are on oral progesterone as part of your HRT mounjaro will affect absorption. This will happen when you start taking mounjaro and each time you go up a dose, so bear that in mind as part of your hrt review if it’s relevant to you. Pharmacists, both the private ones who would be prescribing your mounjaro, or those at your gp or dispensing chemist, will hopefully be able to advise you on potential interactions with other meds.

@itainthalfhot - I started taking Ozempic and then switched to Wegovy and am now on highest dose but have pretty much stalled. It’s so expensive I don’t want to just keep going on Wegovy if Mounjaro may be more effective and boost me a bit. I have been on the medication for over two years. Lost just over three stone but have stalled now for ages.

I know you are supposed to have a month break if you change medication according to Boots and I’m ok with that. Although I will research other providers and may change based on cost. I have two more doses in my current pen.

DH has switched from wegovy to mounjaro in the ladt few months. I organise his WLI prescriptions for him because he's useless with online stuff like that. So I emailed his provider and asked them how long to leave between the 2 different drugs. They said 7 days so that's what he did and he has had no problems switching. He uses pharmacy 2u and he's now on 7.5mg of MJ and losing weight again. No side effects from either drug.

My post was almost a year ago @Caaarrrl but thank you anyway! Have been on Mounjaro now since September. No major losses but it’s creeping down.
