Am I daft to discuss starting Mounjaro with my GP?

Hey I know there are lots of Mounjaro threads but I'm hoping this one gets a wee reply or 2. I want to start Mounjaro, I've checked the interactions with 2 medications I am on, Quetiapine 50mg and Sertraline 150mg and there's no issues I can see. I have a Dr app next Thursday about my HRT issues and I also want to ask if she would support me on Mounjaro or at least check my medication interactions for reassurance.
My question is, if your GP is aware of your use of Mounjaro what was their opinion? I don't want to have it vetoed without them listening to my reasoning.
😊

Ps, have any of you had anyone be off with you when you spoke about using a weight loss drug?
I have this one friend, and tonight she's said well just eat less and exercise more! I have tried to explain its not as easy as that for me, there are so many factors to why I'm finding it difficult. We do a weigh in together every Friday morning and send each other the results. Xx

I haven't directly, but it is the main reason I haven't told my mum or a friend who has recently lost a lot of weight. I think it's the injection element of it that some people front upon. It's made such a difference to me, I'm proud I took the opportunity but I'm not rushing to tell people my method 🤣

I have only told 4 people dh, ds, ex-SIL and niece(31).

dh - was concerned about what he'd heard on news/radio around people getting injected at the school gates 🙈 and feeling ill or risk of going blind 🤦‍♀️, but knows I research things thoroughly as I am generally risk adverse so trusts me to know what I am doing. We haven't spoke much about it since as I don't want to be a MJ/diet bore!

ds - shrugged

ex-SIL is a nurse and also obese. She was initially concerned as didn't know much about it, felt injecting was a big step and was genuinely interested in my thought process. She is letting me be the guinea pig.

Niece is borderline obese, gaining and struggling with it. It is due to a combination of medication, chronic illness which regularly hospitalises her and stress. She wouldn't be allowed to take MJ, but wishes she could.

@NippyCrab there will always be people who judge - mainly because they read and hear the scare stories in the media and also because they don’t understand it’s not all about “eat less and exercise more”.

It’s that lack of understanding is the hard thing to overcome. You can try to explain.

Maybe weighing and comparing results with her isn’t a good idea going forward.

NippyCrab · 29/07/2024 09:35

I agree @Peridot1 we have completely different goals and abilities. She does IF but eats junk in the eating window, UPF and a lot of biscuits and puddings, wine. Losing slow or staying the same, does 3 to 4 gym classes a week. I eat as clean as I can with no low fat products that have sweetners. I don't drink alcohol and drink a lot if water. I usually get oh have a gin, vodka, wine it won't hurt, she doesn't understand I can't, apart from my meds I was an alcoholic binge drinker lol. I'll never disclose that. My husband is happy and supportive as long as I'm okay.
I wish I hadn't told her. X

I have only told people that I know won't be off with me about it. I was a bit concerned about how DP would be, but I wanted him to know, just in case something happened to me <<dramatic>>, and he has actually been so supportive, and is even contemplating taking MJ himself when we get back from holidays.

Other than that I told a colleague, two friends and SIL who all have had their weight struggles and yoyo diet history so I know that they will get it.

Notably I have not told either my Mum nor my best friend who can both be (unintentionally) cutting about weight and would consider injections as cheating / desperate / demeaning as they have never struggled. Whereas I am desperate and have struggled all my adult life, until now.

Hi @NippyCrab Did you find that the Quetiapine caused weight gain?

Hi @NippyCrab Did you find that the Quetiapine caused weight gain?

Hiya, I haven't no, I'm on a low dose at night just 50mg I've noticed a significant gain around my belly since I had my Evorel increased and the progesterone is sending me wonky. Before that I was overweight and I still had a belly but not as swollen or jelly like. The quetiapine gave me more focus and motivation for life in general, and gives me a sleep too. I was doing okay and healthy eating and I had lost 10lbs.
The weight has crept up over the last 6 years though with Duloxetine and I've tried gabapentin and pregablin both of which gave me the major carb munchies. I wanted to rob a Greggs at one point for a haul of sausage rolls. I hate them xx

When I was getting my meds reviewed I asked dr woukd there be any complications with meds I'm on and taking Mourjano. She said no it would be fine but not in NHS .

Thanks, that’s really helpful. I was worried about going on 50mg Quetiapine because of the potential weight gain.
Hope the Mounjaro works for you xx

@WanderMelRat don't worry and good luck with it, this is the best my MH has been for 10 years x

Hi @NippyCrab, I'm so glad to have found you and your post! I'm following with much interest as I intend to start Mounjaro upon my return from holiday!!
I'm hiding/waiting in the laundry room researching as much as possible. X

NippyCrab · 29/07/2024 21:56

I've been lurking for a while, and it was actually an article by Nadine Dorries that gave me the push. My order has been sent out and my app is all set up with lots of information and I've got a video call in 2 weeks with the assigned coach.
Are you on holiday now? I've booked a holiday for June 25 and I really want to feel good with less painful joints and feeling good about me again. X

@NippyCrab can you share the article?

NippyCrab · 29/07/2024 22:00

Yes I sent it to myself it was in the DM. 2 mins.

Hello all, I thought I would add this positive update to my post. I had my appointment this morning for HRT and while the Dr was organising my script I slipped in that I was going to start Mounjaro. Well, my exact words were, please don't give me a row but.... I've ordered Mounjaro injections and starting Monday. She said that's absolutely brilliant! Went on to tell me that women really get such a raw deal on the BMI levels because they have always been based on a white male and really don't take into consideration we have boobs, hips and tummies. She also said she has a list of patients who are waiting on these injections to be available on the NHS. She really backs these and says funding is the issue as they are well researched drugs. She also told me that people who are overweight continually beat themselves up when they just don't lose. There are so many factors to take into consideration to why people aren't losing despite eating clean and being active, these include genetics, hormones and medication.
I basically came out on a major high. It would have been too weird to say I love you Dr you've made my wee day haha.
The HRT is an update for another thread.
X

What a fab doctor! So pleased that it was a positive appointment. I think we can go into these things with a lot of dread so it's great when it goes well.

NippyCrab · 01/08/2024 14:08

She is lovely, they all are at the practice. I'm so glad I changed practices last year now.

They are probably just links to discount codes. MN want them all in one place rather than all over the boards. Some people just spam with codes constantly.

NippyCrab · 14/08/2024 13:10

Ah okay, jeez oh I was thinking people were being unkind. Thank you for replying xx
