Weight loss for those with only a stone or two to lose?

CremeDeSudo · 23/07/2024 18:55

Hey all, I'm seriously considering Mounjaro after battling my weight all my life. I've never been really overweight, just in the overweight, slightly obese category. (Currently 31 BMI).

I'm hoping for some experiences from people with less to lose? What sort of losses did you see? Assume it's slower with less to lose?

I've recently learned the term 'food noise' and that so perfectly explains my brain every day!!

Hi, I’m the same only about 1.5 to 2 st to lose. Am going through the menopause and have really started to pile it on, as much as I exercise I can’t shift it. I’m not very tall so don’t carry the extra stone(s) well and find it extremely uncomfortable with all the pressure pushing against my rib cage. Ive spoken to my husband about it and he’s fine but I don’t want to inform my GP as he has told me that I should expect to put weight on due to menopause and to go for a daily walk, which I do anyway.

can anyone recommend a company to purchase it from? Not worried about cost just want to lose the weight.

CremeDeSudo · 23/07/2024 21:00

Yes, same. Started menopause early due to hysterectomy, and since starting HRT my boobs have gone up two sizes, my stomach permanently looks rounded and despite doing 'all the right things' nothing happens. And then I lose the will, slack off a but on the food, and it goes on so easily.

I've just msgd my PT and he's reduced my cals to 1,490 a day and said I need to get back into a routine. I am so fed up of getting back to a routine then nothing really happening anyway - what's the point? I'm so so fed up of logging calories and just thinking about what I should eat all the time. Feeling thoroughly fed up with it all right now 😕

I've seen Voy recommended a lot on here, and there's lots of new customer discounts flying around. There are cheaper options too I've found, but Voy seem to have support available too.

I’ve been online and done all the consultations but each time it comes to the GP section I don’t want to add the details because I know that they will say I don’t need it. I don’t want to keep putting on the weight and get more depressed then look for comfort in food. I go round and round in circles, my mood is getting lower and lower.

Chicksville007 · 23/07/2024 21:11

Am also looking to start HRT soon and worried it will lead to more weight gain

I ordered from Zava so have no idea whether all prescribers are the same but my approval e-mail says 'Ideally you should tell your GP about any private treatments or tests you take. Download a copy of your medication details using the “GP letter” button in your account, or let us know if you want us to contact them for you' so there's no direct contact unless I agree.

GeorgiePorge · 23/07/2024 21:48

@Chicksville007
your GP doesn't need to approve your prescription...so whether he thinks you need it or not - it isn't his decision...unless there is something in your medical history that conflicts with the drug. Which ever supplier you order from will want your medical history so as long as you are honest they won't prescribe unless suitable for you.

Some suppliers seem to send template letters to GPs ..but reading the different threads most people tend to find their GP isn't aware even if the surgery recieved a letter.

Good luck. I'm in my 6 week and have lost just over a stone...I've got a other few to lose as my starting BMI was 34 ...but pretty confident I will get there on MJ.

Chicksville007 · 23/07/2024 21:50

I’ll try them, if you fill in the Dr’s details are you sure they didn’t contact the GP?

Silvesterthecat · 23/07/2024 21:56

@Chicksville007 I’ve been using voy and found their very god at sending the medication out and easy website to use. Very good prices if you can share your code and good customer service. Here’s my code if you’d like one, it works out £144 to start with

I'm with Asda and was just peeking over the obese range

Ive found it great. Asda isn't the cheapest but I wanted a named pharmacy I knew of and I can click and collect.

I said tell my doc but no one has said anything.

I'm meno too. I lost a stone doing 5:2 when I was 40 but now at 53 it's all crept back on and my waist and belly is so huge. I was also getting a raised blood pressure so wasn't happy about that.

So far I've lost 5lb but this is only My second week

No side effects apart from indigestion one night and uni don't drink enough a slight headache.

Chicksville007 · 23/07/2024 23:27

I have an under active thyroid and take thyroxine daily. Does anyone else have this and still use MJ?

Oldandcobwebby · 23/07/2024 23:43

@Chicksville007 To answer your question about hypothyroidism:

I'm a 61 year old man, on 150mg of Levothyroxine since 2007.

I needed to lose 2.5 stones, to get me from a BMI of 30 to 24.

Using Wegovy, I achieved my goal easily, in four calendar months. I kept my calories to 1200 a day, and exercised a little more. Bit of an issue with constipation, but no other issues. I've been off it since 1 June and I am having no problems with maintaining my weight

HotCrossBunplease · 24/07/2024 00:06

@Chicksville007 there is no way on earth that any GP has the time or inclination to read letters from private pharmacies about prescription of Mounjaro. The companies say this to cover their backs. At most a letter is sent and is put straight on file by an admin person.

I was similar BMI, started a few weeks ago with Mounjaro through Voy. Effects noticeable the same day as my first injection, it was incredible. Food noise stopped, and I've been free to decide what to eat ever since. It's so liberating. Made me realise how un-free I was before- controlled by hormones/habits/brain chat whatever- but it's not there anymore. So I can just choose to have small healthy meals of protein and veg without fuss.

Lost 4.2 kg in the first week but 3kg was in first 2days so presumably water. 1.2kg/week (2-3lb) seems the steady state.

My referral code is below- hopelessly adding so that someone might use it! £85 off so first order is £139.

Thanks, I will def be after a referral! Any side effects? This is exactly what I'm hoping for!

OP posts:
freemyboobs · 24/07/2024 11:44

@CremeDeSudo perhaps a slight sense of nausea on day 1 but could otherwise describe it as just not wanting to eat! Which is the point.

After my second dose (took it in the morning) I think I had a bit of a mini high - intensely happy for the day and wide awake at bedtime. It was nice, not complaining!

Anything else has been as a consequence of weight loss rather than a side effect of medication -things I recognise from previous dieting experiences, e.g. feeling a bit weak and tired for first few days was similar to first few days of any diet (Dukan/keto/fasting).

Good luck!

Xiaoxiong · 24/07/2024 14:13

I've taken my first dose this morning (also ordered through Voy). I'm 83kg and the same BMI as you but also have high cholesterol and have piled on the pounds in the last year or so and my snoring is turning into sleep apnoea. When they warned me about my cholesterol, they showed me a BMI chart which said healthy for my height is between 52 kg and 69kg so I'm aiming for 69kg as my first goal (means losing 13kg) and 60kg as my final goal (losing another 9kg, leaving me right in the middle of the healthy BMI range).

No side effects yet but it's early days...! I'm hoping that as I'm otherwise in good health I'll be ok. I just want to stop feeling almost compulsively greedy about even healthy foods and be able to stop when I'm full - at the moment I seem to just stuff myself and feel a bit out of control around food, always wanting seconds, grazing, etc.

Years and years of yo-yo dieting and hiring trainers and nutritionists and "starting again on Monday" and I just thought - if I don't change something, nothing will change and I'm going to end up on statins and a CPAP machine before I'm 45.

hopeful4future · 24/07/2024 14:27

I didn't have too much to loose but have lost three stone since April! I am now at a healthy BMI. Taking mounjaro has been life changing, it has totally changed my eating habits and stopped the binge cyle.
I have been using Voy and they never contacted my GP.
I have a 50% off referral code if any help to someone!!

Xiaoxiong · 24/07/2024 15:13

@hopeful4future that is brilliant!! If you don't mind me asking, how has it changed your eating? What's your plan now that you're at a healthy BMI, will you continue taking mounjaro and if so, for how much longer?

I so wish I had started back in April. I was so close but just chickened out and thought - I've only got a couple of stone to lose, don't be silly, you can control your eating, the diet will work THIS time...and reader, it didn't...

CremeDeSudo · 24/07/2024 17:43

Yes my next question is what happens when you stop? I'm hoping that as it resets your insulin sensitivity it'll be easier to maintain? Need to do some research around this!

Today I realised that I've been spending £200 a month on PT and gym membership to lose weight, and I'm not losing weight!!

I totally need to start this..

This is what I have been thinking about. What happens to your insulin levels when you stop? What does this do to your system long term?
Does your body workings go back to normal?
Does your appetite increase and weight pile back on?

it’s great that it’s working for everyone, it really is good news but what if you get to your goal weight come off and your weight shoots back up? Or what if you start taking again at your goal weight when you don’t need to?

CremeDeSudo · 25/07/2024 10:37

I don't think anyone really knows yet. I'm hoping it'll be ok to maintain. I don't eat badly generally, I just can't lose weight atm and have been convinced for a while I have some level of insulin resistance.

I have my PT today. I don't think he's going to condone me doing this somehow..!

Have taken the plunge and placed an order and now I have to send pictures of myself in my underwear.

is that normal, feels a bit wrong sending photos of myself undressed.

You can send a pic in tight-fitting leggings and T shirt (I had no shortage of clothes that were too tight, unfortunately!)

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 25/07/2024 17:02

I did underwear I was allowed to cut of the head do didn't care.
Also if someone gets Rocks off on my huge gut then they need help so go for it.
