Should I try to get a prescription?
Can you get a prescription?
I'm over 30 BMI
How did you decide which type to take?
Can I just take a very low amount?
Will it still work?
Can you take it for a little while then stop?

OP posts:
MadameMassiveSalad · 09/07/2024 19:18

Also is there one brand in particular that has more side effects than others?

OP posts:
Idontjetwashthefucker · 09/07/2024 19:19

Do you mean on the NHS? You'll struggle.

MadameMassiveSalad · 09/07/2024 19:55

I thought that would probably be the case!

Can you answer any of my other questions?

Have a look at the Mounjaro threads on here.

Essentially, you can decide which pharmacy to use.

Everyone starts at the same dose which is 2.5mg, taken in a weekly injection for four weeks.

If you want you can go up to 5mg. Then it goes up again, if you need a stronger dose.

TheShellBeach · 09/07/2024 20:00

The maximum dose is 15mg.

TheShellBeach · 09/07/2024 20:01

There's only one brand - Eli Lilly.
But there are several competing pharmacies where you can get the Mounjaro.

Happycyclist · 09/07/2024 20:02

I really don't wish to be mean or harsh but I feel that you need to do a load more reading and research yourself... Ultimately you need to be sure in your mind that it is right for you and in doing the homework you will answer many of the questions.
It works better for some than others... What type... You need to decide. Etc

TheShellBeach · 09/07/2024 20:05

I made the decision after yet another failed diet.
I finally thought "fuck it" and took the plunge.

It's already been a game-changer for me. I've lost 9lb in 10 days and I'm not hungry.

Cerialkiller · 09/07/2024 20:06

Mounjaro has the best results.

No, getting it from the NHS is very difficult, most of us go private.

Most places, you need to be above 30bmi to be accepted and send in photos of yourself.

Yes you can stay on the lowest dose and go up/stop whenever you want. You can't go straight to higher doses without a gradual increase is the limitation.

Some people stay on 2.5 throughout and find it effective. Some don't feel anything until the higher doses.

TheShellBeach · 09/07/2024 20:06

I've got a discount code if you want one.

soupfiend · 09/07/2024 20:07

I did a lot of research and found it overwhelming.

The only thing I knew is that I didnt want to have to inject daily and work out different amounts all the time. So I went with Wegovy

I was on the lowest amount, it worked very well for me, I didnt increase until much later, a month or so I think. However I didnt like injecting myself and so started to put it off more and more so it became a waste of time. The effects lasted a while for me when I stopped and kept stopping and starting but eventually I didnt use it anymore.

I didnt put it all back on, then went on a VLCD once I decided to have WLS, I did that for 4 months, lost quite a bit, then did the surgery and have now lost 10 stone

I would have stuck with the injections if I could have stomached them (no pun intended).

I didnt have side effects as such, bit of a slower digestion but that is easily overcome.

They didnt have Mounjaro when I did it, although that is still an injection so I dont think it would have made much of a difference.

MadameMassiveSalad · 09/07/2024 21:03

Thank you to those answering my questions. Very helpful.

How did you all decide which type to try first? Is there a good comparison study somewhere?

OP posts:
TheShellBeach · 10/07/2024 07:32

Mounjaro is the latest of the GLP 1 drugs to be approved.

WannabeHealthier · 10/07/2024 07:38

I think you need to do your own research- all the answers and more are out there, easily available. I think it’s a bit worrying you’re asking such basic questions as it suggests you have not properly read up on these drugs yourself.

I know that sounds rude but those of us on the Mounjaro thread do worry about people taking this without much thought. We provide so much information on the threads and support.

There are so many more important questions you need to be asking. These questions are easy answered and they’re not the most important ones even.

Mounjaro is more effective and with fewer and milder side effects than WeGovy. This information is readily available. There are published papers and you will see anecdotal evidence on mumsnet threads of fewer side effects for Mounjaro.

Please don’t be offended by my response- it’s just a nudge to do lots of your own research before jumping in. You need to be empowered and aware of what you’re signing up to.

MadameMassiveSalad · 10/07/2024 08:26

@WannabeHealthier you could be helpful & suggest some sources of information instead of being patronising.

I'm just asking sone questions here to which some people are responding.

You don't have to if it worries you so much.

Information is readily available online, just read read read everything then make your decisions. You could also consult your gp but they are honestly not generally very knowledgeable about wl treatments.

@WannabeHealthier is being helpful! Read up on the various WL injections available, there is lots of information available out there but you need to decide what will work for you.

there is lots of info on Mounjaro at the top of this thread - https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight-loss-injections/5115015-continuing-mounjaropart-16?reply=136664689

Have a look on some of the prescribing sites, like ZAVA they have lots of information.

Do a google for Mounjaro vs Wegovy etc and read a few links that come up.

The Mounjaro main thread has an opening post with some interesting information, but be aware it is not always accurate as not compiled by hcp.

The pages are mostly supportive, but like most of MN you get those that have a go instead,

If you have further questions after reading a bit, don’t be put off asking, some are further on in their journey and forget others maybe just don’t know where to start any maybe don’t want to read 16,000 posts on the thread. Talking about you/your post on the other main thread is unsupportive and uncalled for in what is otherwise a supportive community. Sorry you’ve experienced this.

"@WannabeHealthier is being helpful! Read up on the various WL injections available, there is lots of information available out there but you need to decide what will work for you."

@Ballyguin of course I will!

It doesn't mean I can't start a post to ask some questions does it?

Pretty sure I don't need to ask @WannabeHealthier for permission to post here

Should I try to get a prescription?- You can try on the NHS you may be waiting a while.
Can you get a prescription?- Very likely if you're prepared to pay for it, it's around £130-200 a month depending which dose you get and where from
How did you decide which type to take?- I personally went for Munjaro after doing days of research
Can I just take a very low amount?- Munjaro starts on a 2.5 dose then you move up after a month if you feel ready, if you don't you stay on the 2.5
Will it still work?- I'm not sure what you're asking here, it's not a magical miracle medicine. It'll work if you eat right, exercise, drink enough water ect. It's a tool to help you lose weight but it doesn't cause weight loss directly.
Can you take it for a little while then stop?- I mean...you can but you'll likely gain the weight back

I think it's something you really need to research and understand what the medication actually does. As mentioned i'm on Mounjaro which is the latest to be approved in the UK, its manufactured by Eli Lili. Ozempic and Wegovy are also options.

Before you get any of them i'd fully suggest doing your research into each one and the pros and cons of each and making a decision that way the above is based purely on my own research and experience but I spent days looking into it , different providers ect. When I ordered mine I was fully aware what the medication does, how it works, what i need to do alongside it ect

Side effect wise its not so much the medication it's how your body reacts to it. I've read horror stories about the Mounjaro side effects and i've had nothing more than a headache and a bit of tiredness.

Just to reassure anyone who is feeling concerned or worried as a result of this thread, I am not about to rush out and purchase a new WL drug without looking into it further.
I just wanted to ask some questions here. As that seemed to be the point of this section.
