Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

  • MedExpress £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
  • Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
  • The Family Chemist -£149
  • Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
  • Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. Or starter pack with 2.5mg and 5mg pen £319
  • Asda £184
  • Boots £219
  • Chemist4U £179

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

That thread pissed me off. The ignorance!

Happy for you that the scales have reflected your efforts this week! Mine are down a little this morning too. It's definitely slower than the first week, but an average of just over 3lbs a week for me is better than it has been in years!
I'm hoping the higher doses will help a bit more.

I saw your reply in the thread and it was great! I started typing one and decided not to engage. They will keep judging regardless and I’ll keep doing what I’m doing regardless!

Pigriver · 20/04/2024 11:44

Ooh I've not read it. I might do later when I need a laugh.
I spent most of my life being a 'normal' weight but 2 kids, a stressful job and peri-menopause have all contributed to the constant drip drip of an extra pound here and there. It seemed like the more I tried to lose the more went on. I spent all last year 'on a diet' and going to the gym twice a week and lost 0lb overall (actually gained towards the end of the year as in severe pain with a shoulder injury)
My BMI had just hit 30 (officially obese) and I knew that this year was time time to get it under control. I've been plagued by ill health and injuries the last 8 years and this is part of regaining my health and mobility.

Anyway on a more positive note. I'm past the halfway mark to my target and I've compared my before pictures to now and they change is unbelievable. I've not even dropped a dress size but everything fits and looks better.
HW 12.13 Bursting out of a size 14
SW 12.7
CW 11.5 comfortably wearing 14
GW 10.3 I comfortably fit into a size 12 at this weight

FlappyFish · 20/04/2024 12:01

I’m reading the sinister thread and not engaging. If you’ve never struggled with weight you will never get it. Ever.

Have a wonderful day all, living our best lives.

Flapearedknave · 20/04/2024 12:13

That thread is just 'fat people deserve to suffer'

Not reading it is self care.

Please don't try and justify yourselves, they don't deserve it, and are not worth it.

MelissaLouRocks · 20/04/2024 12:19

Fingers crossed I can escape tomorrow, let's hope my blood work decent this evening. 🙏

JanetSnakeholeMacklin · 20/04/2024 12:20

It's attitudes like the ones on that thread that make many of us take MJ in secret. Hopefully in the not too distant future attitudes will change and stigma will be hugely reduced or disappear, like they have with mental health for example.

Fingers crossed for you! How is taking MJ working as an inpatient? Do they allow you to take it as normal?

ObsidianTree · 20/04/2024 12:27

I found it and read some of it. A lot of ignorant people that have no idea how the drugs work or why they are needed.

To be fair, from what I read, there was more people defending the drugs and people on them than there were people slating them. I didn't read the whole thing tho... I few pages of ignorant people was enough of a dose for today!

I bit and replied tho. Probably won't make a difference but wanted to add my two pence.

The biggest thing I have issue is what does it have to do with any of them! How is it effecting them in anyway! Ridiculous!

They've been fine with it. Thankfully (sort of!), I'm a regular and they know me pretty well.

I had to have a mesh implant removed, and the plastic leaching into me has totally shattered my already fragile immune system. Hence I'm on constant low dose antibiotics, but I'm becoming resistant to a lot of them. So when I get poorly have no choice but to go in and have them IV.

So fed up with it, but at least still alive n fighting!

Rainbowl · 20/04/2024 12:40

Sounds tough @MelissaLouRocks hope you’re out of there soon

Stickthatupyourdojo · 20/04/2024 12:42

Sorry to hear you're fed up @MelissaLouRocks sending you love.

I've just spotted that other thread, it's all so simplistic isn't it.

I'm in the hairdressers and the light in here has highlighted my crepey neck, gulp. My face isn't bad but my neck looks awful. I'm 37 and was not expecting this. I've just ordered some collagen and vitamin c powder.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a protein powder I can just lob into my coffee or squash? I don't get on with protein shakes at all but need to up it massively.

Hi All
I'm on week 8 (5mg) of MJ having tried saxenda (lost 8lb then plateaued) and then wegovy (regained 6lb) last year. Stopped wegovy in December as it simply did nothing for me.
I'm really pleased with MJ so far, after my experience with the other two jabs I was sceptical that any would work for me. I do notice getting hungry more on days 6 and 7, and always make sure I have more protein to back me up (whey protein powder puddings, home made protein pancakes, eggs, Lidl protein balls etc) and that helps stop me bingeing.
Am mid 40s, peri hit hard last year and I gained 6kg which quickly shifted after I started hrt. Saxenda lost a bit more but it was hard fought, and then move to wegovy due to supply issues was a total waste of money. Started on MJ at the weight I was starting saxenda, no great side effects other than feeling a bit cold and finding larger meals in the evening usually lead to a loose tummy at night, nothing urgent or unmanageable.
Had my first woosh this morning! Loss of 1.7kg since yesterday after not much change the last 2 weeks. My weight has gone up and down but the overall trend is downwards and I'm learning to trust the process. I'm hypertensive and accept I may need blood pressure meds for the rest of my life, why would obesity be any different?

SW - 98kg (BMI 35.1)
CW - 93.1kg
Goal 1: 92kg (pre kids weight)
Goal 2: 88kg (wedding day weight)
Goal 3: 83kg (overweight BMI category)
Target weight: 75kg (sub 80kg would be amazing, at sub 75 they wont prescribe me anymore as I'll have a BMI under 27)

Am delighted with a 5kg loss in 8 weeks. Wondering if I should stay on 5 or move up to 7.5 when available - I still have a dose plus bonus dose in my pen. If I can average a 3kg loss every 8 weeks I will definitely reach Goal 3 by Christmas. Ambitious yes but if MJ continues to work (and supplies remain available) it's possible.

Ghilliedu · 20/04/2024 13:21

Second dose for me today and I definitely needed it, found myself getting really hungry yesterday and I did binge on crisps, which I haven’t even remotely fancied the rest of the week.

also first weigh in this morning and lost 4.6lbs. Not paying too much attention to the first week loss as it’s always a bit more but it’s a wee psychological boost isn’t it!

JanetSnakeholeMacklin · 20/04/2024 14:07

@MelissaLouRocks I hope you feel better soon and can go home asap.

I have been trying to weigh every day lately so I thought I'd update with my graph. The red line shows the trend and the green line is time to my goal of a BMI of about 23. The blue zig zag is my actual progress. At the moment, I'm going to hit my goal sooner than I planned, but I'm sure it will level out a bit.

Should have said - this is over 3 weeks. Big loss for week one, then it slowed right down! I'm still only on 2.5 though.

For those of you asking for a Voy code.

I'm quite impressed as they're giving me a one to one consultation call next week and as I had a stuck pen, they sent me a new one foc

I've done last Tuesday, my first 5mg jab but if I'm honest, I can't see any change yet....and I'm still awaiting the appetite suppressing! I've lost 9lbs in 5 weeks which is ok but nowhere near what I had whilst on Ozempic a year ago!

Hi, Newbie here,,, any recommendations of where to buy a starter pack from ? or any current discount codes? I am skimming the threads trying to get as much info as possible and am mighty impressed with the results you are all posting . My BMI is over 40 and my chronic obesity just ruined a little holiday sadly,,,, so its time to bite the bullet and sort this mess out.

joinvoy.com/r/U-xJ0IQ3Vltz

Here's a code for Voy if you want to try them? The first pen works out as £114.50 with this link.

I've been quite impressed with them...so far!

They need photos etc which is ok....I'm only just (bmi 30.5) obese but sent a horrendous photo of myself and it really made me take a long look at myself and I've come to realise that I can't be fat anymore so I'vem in this for the long term now

Did you that that MJ lowers blood pressure?
My BP is high normal so I keep an eye on it. On Ozempic last year I noticed that my BP had dropped loads into the very good zone. Hadn't lost enough weight to account for it.

So I googled and low and behold, ozempic lowers blood pressure , as does MJ.

It's also anti inflammatory. Googled that too when all my painful autoimmune damaged joints felt much better.

Win win!

Femeia · 20/04/2024 15:21

I need my blood pressure to come down so am also hoping MJ does the trick.

In exciting NSV news, I really wanted to be able to get my wedding ring off for the first time in years. Well I've just done it! It didn't quite slip off but it wasn't a major struggle. So although the scales aren't showing it, things are definitely improving
