Any top tips for keeping dd lean and tidy for an afternoon wedding?

Has anyone put an apron on dd for the meal?

She's 3... and I want her to look beautiful for the WHOLE day lol!

er, 'clean' and tidy that is.

'lean' isn't really the look i'm going for!

With a 3y I would get her a nice pretty apron for the meal. Look for a really girly pretone and she will love it. Think you can get some that look like a princess dress

And get her dressed at the very last minute.

However, you may be on a losing battle with a 3y - but that is part of the charm of toddler bridesmaids.

My 7y is a bridesmaid this May for the firsttime and so excited. I am sure we will have it a lot easier though.

Hulababy - thanks for that, was thinking of a rpretty apron but didn't know where to start looking...

rasputin - your dd looks gorgeous! and very cute in her dress. we don't plan to sell the dress particularly. just aware that she has this one day to be flowergirl and would rather she wasn't clarty for the most of it!

i hope not to be too precious about it, but i don't know what's on the menu that day...i do know that dinner times at home are fairly messy and dd always wears an apron for tea...

I would go with the apron or something for the meal. The rest of the time, I recommend a chiffon - an unexpected bonus of our chiffon dresses for the flower girls was that they were so easy to clean. That applies to my dress too! And the marks can even be wiped off with a cloth while still being worn... (that was me, not the flower girl...!)

rasputin - thanks! i'm definitely guilty of being a stress head

(btw - i'm not the bride - it's my sister who is getting married, and to be honest she's after a naughty little flowergirl with character rather than the angel i'm praying dd will be!!)

never mind an apron, dd would be in a bib with sleeves before coming within 6ft of food...

My twin dds were bridesmaids when they were 5, in beautiful ivory silk dresses and I remember having the same worries as you. I covered them with a white linen t-towel at the meal - I think the apron is a much better idea!

However, 10 minutes after the meal they were rolling down a grassy bank and doing cartwheels etc. I think you just have to accept that they aren't going to stay particularly clean and tidy. The grass stains are a lovely reminder of a wonderful day. They just used the dresses as dressing up clothes afterwards.

sandyballs - so cute!!

you know, i don't think i mind the idea of grass stains.... just not splattered tomato something!

hi

DD was a bridemaid just before she was 2. I put the dress on her last minute (cream!!) to make sure she was clean for ceremony, but just relaxed after that. Unless she is really happy to wear an apron, I'd say you just have to accept that she will get messy!

If you are worried about the dress, why not change her for the meal? But, in all honesty, you just can't keep them clean at that age. They had curry at the reception, so you can imagine the mess. Just got the clothes dry cleaned after - they were fine. And her cheekiness and messiness just made everone love her all the more!!

Just relax and enjoy seing your little un looking gorgeous
