Venue recommendations - Wiltshire and surrounding counties

DD and her partner are intending to get married in 2027 and are now looking at venues. So I thought I would post here in the hope of getting some personal recommendations.

Funds are limited to around £5000 - £8000, not including clothes, make up, hair, cars etc. Because of this, they are intending to keep guests to a minimum and there will be around 12 to 15 people, including the bride and groom and their young child.

Ideally, they would like a small hotel or similar where everyone can stay the night of the wedding. Or a site with the wedding venue and then self contained accommodation on site. Also, ideally, they would like a venue within an hours drive of Royal Wootton Bassett.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

I attended as a guest so I have no idea of costs but maybe look here. Dedicated wedding venue, remote but all you need is on site, plenty of parking for guests, lovely atmosphere- a mix between Cotswold-y traditional and contemporary cool

Thank you, but I think they would cost considerably above budget.

Just looked at their website and as an example, you can book an evening venue for your wedding from 5pm (no food included) for between £1500 and £2000 and that's their special offer! So the whole wedding with food would be beyond budget.

Shame, as ot is a lovely place.

I think they're looking for somewhere less salubrious.

I think it’s when you want everything in one venue that the prices really start to rise.

Would they be open to something like a Register Office? I think the one in Cheltenham is nice? Then they could move on to a hotel, preferably with a private function room for the Wedding Breakfast?

How do they want the say to progress? I can imagine that with such an intimate wedding they may want to either finish things up earlier than normal? We’re going to a small wedding next year, they’re planning on 20 to 30 although it’s early stages. They’ll be getting married and having a meal and planning on everything being over by 7pm. That’s great for us. We’re waiting to find out where the venue is before we decide whether to book accommodation

Thank you. I agree about the all in one means that prices rise. I also agree about perhaps a register office, then a hotel afterwards. At the end of the day, it will be their decision. I was just looking for some ideas to pass on to them. I might suggest the register office and ceremony, then on to a hotel etc. afterwards. I don't want to be too overbearing though.

With so few guests, it does mean that virtually everyone know each other well and will be happy to sit around chatting and listening to music.

How about the Roman Baths? They offer ceremony only hire or you can have pump
room at an additional cost. If they just did the ceremony there, lots of choice for private dining in Bath. Plus the ceremony photos would be gorgeous!!

I married at the Roman Baths many years ago (think we had to be there by 8am). Then had a wedding breakfast in the Pump Room. We live nearby so the logistics of an early start were manageable. From what I remember any music or readings had to be agnostic (not that we needed any).

Well I was quite happily married and had no intention of ever getting married again but I think I could be tempted if it was held there…

For that small amount of people it would be really easy to find a restaurant with a private dining space - which I would assume would be cheaper and better quality than many hotel function catering.
