Hire a wedding bus?

we have planned our wedding for next summer. The ceremony is in one city centre venue and the reception is in another. It’s about a 20 minute walk through the city centre. My mum thinks I should put on a bus to transport guests between the 2 venues, but it would be a very short bus journey and the quotes are around £700 so far! Is it unreasonable to expect guests to walk or jump a taxi between the 2 venues?

You could prebook a few taxi’s for the more infirm amongst your guests? That would be much cheaper.

Yes you could book some taxi minibus instead…see if that’s cheaper. Edited to add, if it’s raining it’ll be a bigger too.

I think it depends on where you are planning on having photos and the inevitable hanging around that brings. Because of people walk at a lesuirely pace maybe finding a pub or something on the way then they won’t feel as they’re hanging around as long. Whereas if they arrive by bus then it’s a bit now what? Maybe just organise transport for the wedding party and maybe grandparents and such who may find the walk a struggle

Just remembering a wedding I went to where it was assumed we’d walk or get cabs, middle of London so should have been fine, but it tipped it down and we were all trying to get cabs at same time and didn’t really all know each other well enough to get cabs together…it was awkward and quite a lot of people were late for reception. There were people who had flown in And didn’t have data to get uber too….

I would assume I would make my own way and sort it out myself.

@PinkSprinkleFairy yes I’ve been a guest in both scenarios where transport is provided and also where it isn’t. We’ve always managed fine but I think the older generation prefer a plan in place? Not as confident with Uber! I just think it’s a lot of money for such a short journey.

@IMissSparklingyes I get that people might not fancy the walk, they could get a taxi, it wouldn’t cost much. But I just don’t know if this will pee people off.

Why don't you cover the cost of taxis, then? If you have the big black hackney cabs where you are just book a load of them, you can get 6 in each.
