Wood fired pizza at a wedding - does this price look ok to you?

CatTV · 15/01/2025 11:51

We have been quoted £980 for a woodfired pizza set up for our wedding for 120 guests - so £14 per head. Includes sauces, boxes and full clear up afterwards. They have glowing reviews on social media and google.

Does this sound reasonable? I have zero wood fired pizza booking experience, so thought I would check in on here!!

TIA!

980÷120= £8.17 a head, not £14

GreenSedan · 15/01/2025 11:53

Is it a mobile type thing where they set up at your venue? If so, that sounds like an absolute bargain!

YouveGotAFastCar · 15/01/2025 11:54

We did wood fired pizzas although it was a fair bit cheaper than that, we paid £7 a head. Is that a pizza per person? I regret that for us, we had SO MUCH spare food that was all thrown away during the clear up.

JC03745 · 15/01/2025 11:54

How many pizzas can be cooked in their oven at once? I'd be worried about people waiting ages. Are they making small, individual pizzas or are they larger and shared? What if someone wants more? Do they pay or you?

crumpet · 15/01/2025 11:54

Agree- looks great value if the pizzas are good.

DaisyChain505 · 15/01/2025 11:54

We paid £12 per head for our wedding pizzas so it doesn’t sound out of the realm of reasonable.

IdLikeMyMomentInTheSunshine · 15/01/2025 11:55

I think pp calculation sounds great value per head when they are providing everything, including the staff needed to cook it all.

OMG, my maths is appalling. Hanging my head in shame hahaha

I got myself in a muddle and posted too quickly.

We have 120 guests but some other options and they are going to provide around 70 pizzas for the event.

Thank you all for coming back to me so quickly. I posted too quickly without the details - I am new to mumsnet! Forgive me.

We have 120 guests but providing another food truck option (we went to wedding where they just had pizza and the queue ended up being HUGE)

They are going to provide around 70 pizzas for the event.

Sounds reasonable. I take it this is going to be more of a snack later! I went to a wedding where they did this in a van type thing and they could only do a couple at a time so the queue was horrendous! If only 90 of your guests want pizza, depending on the size of their pizza oven that is about 3hrs of constant pizza cooking, so make sure they are there for a good while!!

HellofromJohnCraven · 15/01/2025 12:01

Sounds very reasonable to me. Can they do dietary requirements or do your other options cover that?

ilovepixie · 15/01/2025 12:01

Depends on the size of pizza? Is it a pizza each?

Newhi · 15/01/2025 12:04

I’ve just seen your update, I think you might need more pizzas. The weddings I have been to also had around the same amount of guests and a couple of other food truck options. There were a lot of people who had a couple of pizzas each!! Will they just shut up shop when the 70th person orders?

Bear in mind this was after a full three course meal around 5pm. Don’t underestimate how hungry people get after a lot of drinking and dancing!!!

TooManyCupsAndMugs · 15/01/2025 12:07

It does work out at £14 a pizza rather than £14 a head. I think that sounds quite expensive personally but everyone has their own limits!

whosaidtha · 15/01/2025 12:07

If this is your main wedding food you'll definitely need more pizzas.
If this is evening buffet you'll need 70+ some other buffet options- salads etc.

CatTV · 15/01/2025 12:11

Pizza each, they will do GF/vegan etc too!

We are not doing a sit down. Getting married late just us, and then party with canapés on arrival followed by pizza truck, other truck (cuisine tbd), open bar.

Setting the expectations with our guests too

I would definitely get more pizzas then!!

FrenchandSaunders · 15/01/2025 12:25

I don't think 70 is enough .... pizzas are very popular and you might find CFs taking more than one. Even if there is another catering van.

JC03745 · 15/01/2025 12:26

We are not doing a sit down.
Will there be any seating? I'd hate to stand in heels trying to eat a pizza from my hand or a plate!
I went to a supposedly trendy wedding venue once- beanbags, stools, a few low wicker chairs and only a few tables and chairs. Not enough seating for even half the people to sit. It was awful standing for hours!

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 15/01/2025 12:27

How many pizzas can they churn out in what timeframe. If it takes ten minutes per pizza it's going to be painful. I also think you need more than 70 for 120 people

Teeheehee1579 · 15/01/2025 12:36

I know this sounds nice in theory but in practice you will end up with a massive queue regardless of how many you are making (and if the weather is awful it will be awful for all concerned) even with another truck. I’ve been to weddings like this and it is interminably boring (and often cold) having to queue or one person goes to queue leaving the other hanging about if they don’t know anyone. You don’t have to do sit down but ilyiy can get trucks that do big dish stuff - Thai, paella etc then no one has to wait for long, fresh pizza is the worst. If you must it’s not a bad price though.

RB68 · 15/01/2025 12:38

we have a pizza van at the village hall once a week or so as no take aways round here its £15 for a pizza

IdPreferProsecco · 15/01/2025 12:38

I'd agree it's not enough pizza, and don't underestimate how long they take to cook - wedding I went to that had a pizza truck as evening food (alongside other options) had a constant queue and people were left hungry even after having had a 3 course meal.

Also if you have guests with dietary requirements coming check that's actually a realistic option for them. Eg a lot of people with coeliacs wouldn't be safe to eat their pizza even though it's a gluten free base, because the tiny prep area and one oven mean it's a cross contamination nightmare sadly.

You can't say you're managing guests expectations if ultimately what you mean is they know they'll be left hungry...

ilovepixie · 15/01/2025 12:40

I don't think 70 pizzas is enough for 120 people. I would go for more. Or the option to cook more if running out.

UnbelievableLie · 15/01/2025 12:43

We went to a wedding where they had a pizza van recently and it was awful. It took forever to serve so it was a permanent queue for about 2 hours. The pizzas themselves are quite small too and not very adventurous, some basic toppings like Parma ham and cheese. We did have a meal beforehand so this was later in the evening but I can't imagine having just that pizza all day, I would be starving!
