What did you wear for your registry office wedding?

Hi, I'm getting married in August, in a small intimate registry office wedding. I really don't want a traditional white or long wedding dress.

I have a beautiful red, gold, turquoise, pink, green chinese cheongsam knee length dress that I'd really love to wear but I'm not sure I have the confidence to wear it.
What non traditional outfit did you wear for your registry office wedding?
Help!

"The bride wore an AK47 and a bandolier bikini, the groom wore nothing but a hat..."
I mean that's fabulous and memorable but the registrars would NOT be happy 😊

Wow 😳I honestly don't know what to say......

For ours I just opened my wardrobe and chose from my existing dresses. I had a black and white knee length dress that I had used at my friends' wedding so I just had it dry cleaned and that's it. Your red dress is gorgeous and I would go for it if you feel good in it. 😊

Happybridehappywife21 · 07/01/2025 12:22

@Olika sounds really lovely 😍 I feel really beautiful in it 😊

Right, now get over to Style and Beauty so they can sort you out some shoes and a bag!
Or maybe not. That board can be brutal at times.

I've got my favourite purple Ruby shoo shoes I'm going to wear 😁

You have excellent taste!

Wear it!

I wore a pink second hand bridesmaid's dress I bought from eBay for £12.50.

Jeans, biker boots, a stripy grey and black blouse, and a very old blue cord trench coat.

A bride wearing that fabulous dress is a wedding I want to go to! Wear it with confidence.

WhisperingTree · 07/01/2025 16:13

Looks beautiful. Chinese wedding cheongsam is traditionally red and gold, in case you are going for a traditional vibe. But I love your choice. Wear it with confidence.

I just wore my normal jeans and t-shirt, and then off to a meal with our family.

When I first married at 20, my narc DM demanded I married in a Catholic church, white dress, huge amount of guests ect. I HATED it and cried everyday.
When I remarried 12 years ago it was in a tiny, historic registry office with 20 guests( 5 of whom were me, DH and kids !)and I wore the gothic scarlet satin ballgown I had always wanted. It was probably way too much for somewhere so small, but it was me allowing myself to be myself for probably the first time in my life and I absolutely loved it!!

Uricon2 · 07/01/2025 17:08

Black Ghost dress I already had, heels, new handbag (any excuse) and a frighteningly expensive, uber cool hand made silk scarf (believe Kate Moss had an identical one, there the resemblance ended Grin) The scarf is still much loved and worn.

I think the red dress sounds lovely.

I wore a sort of 50s inspired dress that I already owned, in a floral white and grey print, a sort of fitted bodice, little straps and a full mid calf length skirt. I had worn it quite a lot but it was my favourite dress and I couldn't think of one I'd find that I liked better!

No reason why you couldn't wear a wedding dress. Many people I know did.

LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway · 07/01/2025 17:17

Also, the dress you are going to wear @Happybridehappywife21 doesn't look very bride-like. (IMO.)

StrongandNorthern · 07/01/2025 17:28

Wear whatever you want! It's 'your' day.
Wear the dress you want to. Don't 'chicken out' and then regret it.
I wore a crocheted dress 😂 - that was much, much nicer than it sounds!
White and coral lace effect. I loved it.
Recently a friend wore an evening dress with Doc Martens.
She looked amazing.
So - go for it!
Have a very happy day.

I don't want a traditional bridal dress. I'd feel very uncomfortable on my wedding day & I don't want to feel like that. Who says it has to be white/ivory or cream to be bridal?

A beautiful silk tea dress with a peony pattern from Suzannah London that had been reduced, reduced, reduced in their sale. Congratulations OP

That dress is beautiful-please wear it!

I wore a bottle green velvet dress and a bottle green and black shot satin lined black velvet wrap for mine, and had a red roses bouquet (it was a Christmas wedding so felt very festive). It was also nearly 30 years ago😂

Feelingstrange2 · 07/01/2025 18:13

I did wear a ivory wedding dress. This was 35 years ago now!

I was looking at suits in town and bumped into my husband (to be at the time) aunt. She said I should.wear a wedding dress if I wanted and she would love to make it for me!

So we changed direction, visited Debenhams which had a whole basement floor of material, picked a pattern and ivory silk taffeta! Then I visited Myrna (anyone my age from Plymouth will remember this shop!) And chose some embellishments!

If I were getting married now I'd have something similar with the colour embellishments that are in vogue.
