What did you wear for your registry office wedding?

Hi, I'm getting married in August, in a small intimate registry office wedding. I really don't want a traditional white or long wedding dress.

I have a beautiful red, gold, turquoise, pink, green chinese cheongsam knee length dress that I'd really love to wear but I'm not sure I have the confidence to wear it.
What non traditional outfit did you wear for your registry office wedding?
Help!

I wore a cream peplum skirt suit from the market that was £15, but it was 1989😃

It's simular to this 😊

Definitely wear it, I wish I had been more adventurous

That's a lovely dress Op.

I had a Vegas wedding and worse a long red satin and embroidered column dress that I got in the Monsoon sale.

Thank you 😊 I really want to, I don't want to look back & wish I'd worn it. I just need more confidence 🙁

@bredot that sounds really lovely😍

That’s beautiful

Anyway, why does it really matter? As long as you and future husband like it, and none of your guests are going to tut ( and if they are, don’t invite them). The registry staff have seen much more bizarre garments.

Happybridehappywife21 · 07/01/2025 10:29

@Allthegoodnamesarechosen I think my future husband will say I look very pretty 😊I don't think any of our guess will tut or anything. It's just me, I lack confidence.

I went to a registry wedding last year where the bride 'just' wore a lovely deep green dress she already owned.

It was a beautiful wedding.

I wore a purple sequin dress with a lavender dress coat for the registry. Coat came off for the party after! Enjoy your wedding

Happybridehappywife21 · 07/01/2025 11:29

@FirstOfTheFirst sounds really lovely 😍 My best friend got married in December & wore a cream long sleeves shortish dress & sparkly heels. She looked beautiful 😍

Sounds really lovely 😍 Purple is my favourite colour! 😁 Thank you very much for all your replies, I'm loving comments about your non traditional wedding outfits 😊

If you can't wear it for you own wedding, when will you wear it?
Do it!
Don't live life worrying what other people are thinking, because other people aren't thinking very much at all. Grin Make yourself happy!

@BaronessBomburst thank you so much 🤗 Great way to think about it 😀

Jeans and T-shirt.

VikingLady · 07/01/2025 11:39

We chose our wedding clothes based purely on what we'd always wanted to wear but never had the opportunity. So I had a satin corset with a silk skirt, DH had a ruffled pirate shirt and the new pair of stupidly expensive boots he'd wanted but couldn't justify.

If not on your wedding day then when?

BaronessBomburst · 07/01/2025 11:41

You can learn from my experience too. I had a simple white dress but I didn't wear a tiara for my registry office wedding as I couldn't really afford one. Claire's Accessories, Chinese webshops etc didn't exist in those days. I still look back and regret it, and have never had an opportunity to wear one since. Sad

I'm really sorry you never got a chance to wear a tiara 😕 I'm sorry you still haven't had chance to wear one 😕 Big hugs 🤗

Stuff I wear every day, we were doing it for the legal & financial bit.

But I'm with PP, wear what you'll feel happiest in, as long as it's not, like, dangerous or illegal!

snowardbound · 07/01/2025 11:59

In days of yore when we married in December in a registry office I wore a sensible woollen suit but if I were to do it again I’d definitely wear your dress. It’s amazing. Have the confidence. If you like it and your OH does, that’s all that matters.

WhichWaytoHere · 07/01/2025 12:01

Why wouldn't you wear it? Wearing a "traditional" white wedding dress feel unusual too.

I'm very curious about the illegal part of your comment? 😜

"The bride wore an AK47 and a bandolier bikini, the groom wore nothing but a hat..."
I mean that's fabulous and memorable but the registrars would NOT be happy 😊
