Voice recording up the aisle

Opinions on the growing trend of having a voice recording playing before the bride walks up the aisle? Personally I think it's cringe as hell and don't really see the point but would love to hear if anybody has seen it done in person.

Sounds bizarre. What is the recording supposed to be for?

I saw one on fb - it was the groom's young daughter saying things like "hi daddy, I'm with mummy, she's beautiful and we're coming out to see you. Love you"
It went on longer but that was the gist.

It's not something I'd have ever done. But the groom listening was in tears so I guess he found it sentimental rather than cringy.

ginasevern · 04/01/2025 17:18

Fuck no. Probably another cringe American trend. I think I'd pull up my wedding dress and leg it if the groom did this to me.

everychildmatters · 04/01/2025 17:20

@HaveItAll90 God, no!! We were side-by-side. No idea why anybody would want a voice recording?

LouisvilleSlugger · 04/01/2025 17:21

Omg, that TikTok. That must just be the naffest thing I have ever seen in my life. I bet the congregation were trying so hard to not laugh.

Cesarina · 04/01/2025 17:22

An acquaintance's daughter can sing fairly well but not exceptionally well.
(I don't mean to be mean, just telling it like it is).
At her wedding, whilst her DH-to-be was waiting at the secular "altar", (non-church venue), the bride began walking up the aisle with her dad, singing to the groom with a cordless microphone.
The song was "I will always love you" and the bride sang in a kind of breathy, X Factor way - I can't think how else to describe it.
It should have been unique and romantic, but it went on for ages, the groom didn't know where to look, and it was just so cringy and embarrassing.

Oh leave people alone, let them do what they want with their own wedding. If you don't like it, don't do it

You do something self-indulgent and cringe like this AND you put it on TikTok - you deserve to have the piss ripped out of you for a long, long time.

It’s a British trend.

fuuwan · 04/01/2025 17:45

That video is awful. How cringeworthy.

I think it's a creative way of not having to pay for musicians to play some entrance music for the bride.

Overtheatlantic · 04/01/2025 17:49

This reminds me of the Catherine Tate sketch where Lauren is getting married and sings I Will Always Love You and her fiancé leaves the church after telling her it was “well shameful”

Blimey, oh well. To be fair this sort of twee stuff usually starts stateside.

wizzywig · 04/01/2025 17:52

@TheReturnOfFeathersMcGraw and on the left we have Uncle Brian. He's a stamp collector and his topic of interest is Peter stringfellow's holiday thongs

This surprises me. I also thought it was American!

Is it to try make him cry? I don't really get it. I'd be mortified!!! What was the guests reaction?

Yeah I think it was meant to tug at the grooms heart strings and prompt a tear or two....
a few side ways looks exchanged between the guests and some oh-ing and ah-ing over it.
Just uncomfortable to listen to tbh.

I hope someone uses war of the worlds.

Dcbjgfdh · 05/01/2025 01:48

Sounds quite narcissistic, but modern weddings seem to be!
All for bloody insta generally.

I now want to divorce and remarry just so I can do this.

Tillow4ever · 05/01/2025 02:29

This isn't something I've seen or heard of. About the only time I can think it might be a nice thing to do is if one of the parents was terminally ill and pre-recorded a special message for their child's wedding day or they are currently too sick to attend in person, so record a message. Even that I might find a little weird and potentially morbid - but I can sort of see how it might also be a lovely thing (eg for a bride who's father isn't around to walk her down the aisle and so she walks down to his voice telling her how proud he is, etc).

The examples given on this thread so far are bonkers.

WWY · 05/01/2025 05:34

It's cringy but it's really not that funny.

I've been thinking of good voice recordings you could use for this... what about a bit of braveheart.... "they may take our lives, but they'll never take... OUR FREEDOM"

These people have published them to social media on open public accounts. That's a choice they've made, and likely inviting comment. If they didn't want judgements and opinions keep them to private accounts or just in their own devices,

TheGhostOfTheYearYetToCome · 05/01/2025 10:48

Can someone please share a link to this, sounds funny

I love it!

No-one would have believed, in the last years of the nineteenth century, that human affairs were being watched from the timeless worlds of space. No-one could have dreamed that we were being scrutinized, as someone with a microscope studies creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water. Few men even considered the possibility of life on other planets. And yet, across the gulf of space, minds immeasurably superior to ours regarded this earth with envious eyes, and slowly and surely, they drew their plans against us…”

Then just as the bride gets to the altar…. Bam bam baaam

mitogoshigg · 05/01/2025 10:54

I'd laugh my head off if one of my brides wanted this at church! My response anyway to anything recorded is please reconsider, our organist will adjust the music to fit the exact length of your entrance, recordings are a set length or sound odd if ended abruptly. I had a slight wardrobe malfunction (bustle button caught) and took me 2 minutes to sort and start my entrance. In a registry office you probably have to use recorded but pick something which is short, or shorten to an excerpt.

Lottapianos · 05/01/2025 10:55

I've just watched a few of these videos on TikTok and you weren't kidding about the cringe factor! 😁🤦🏻‍♂️ Unbelievably naff, but then a lot of traditional wedding stuff is
