Wedding dress honest thoughts

Hi I need some honest opinions about this dress I chose. I went wedding dress shopping for the first time on the weekend and I only tried on 6-7 dresses. I think I got swept up in the moment and said yes to the dress too quickly. I wasn't expecting to buy my dress that day. Since coming home I'm unsure if I made the right decision what are your honest thoughts about this dress?

A little extra advice please - for the veil would you have a lace trim at the back (the skirt is sparkly tulle all over) or would you have a plain/pearl veil?
Thank you! Any opinions and thoughts would be so helpful 🩷

I think you look stunning in the beautiful dress. My DD bought the first dress she tried on. Not straight away but Everything else she tried just did not compare. When you know you know.

Birdscratch · 04/11/2024 20:08

Can you go back and try it on again? So you can get rid of the doubt? Your opinion is the only one that matters on this.

MillyMichaelson · 04/11/2024 20:14

It's a nice dress but those saggy sleeves are awful. I'd get them removed and reattached as a halter strap maybe. That would lift the bodice a bit too, as the strapless look can look a bit crumpled and dumpy.

BridetobeXx · 04/11/2024 20:20

Aww thank you so much everyone for your lovely comments and thoughts. It's made me feel much better about my decision hearing what others think too. Appreciate it!💖

Plain veil, definitely.

I’m not a fan of strapless as I think it’s quite unforgiving, sorry.

I'm not a fan of many strapless dresses but there's nothing needing 'forgiving' in this case - the OP has good shoulders and arms, and it fits well.

newbeggins · 04/11/2024 20:28

Ohh it's lovely! Very feminine and pretty

SallyWD · 04/11/2024 20:29

Beautiful!

cushionfiend · 04/11/2024 20:29

Beautiful dress and really suits your shape. You'll look stunning.

User780 · 04/11/2024 20:35

Just a quick tip, if you go with a plain veil it is cheap and very easy to make your own. There are tutorials online but you basically just cut out a big circle or oval and sew in a comb (easy enough even if you've never seen anything before). I bought some soft tulle from Mcculloch and Wallace and some combs from somewhere online. It took about an hour and cost about £15 for a chapel length veil.

Alalalala · 04/11/2024 20:37

Aww it’s gorgeous ✨

Echobelly · 04/11/2024 20:38

I think it's lovely and really suits you, a keeper. It's classic without being boring and won't make you cringe by looking 'really 2020s' when you look back on your photos. Definitely the right choice.

GoldenPineapple15 · 04/11/2024 20:39

It’s stunning and you look amazing in it .

twentysevendresses · 04/11/2024 20:42

Really lovely dress OP 🥰

The only thing that would bother me (and this is ME!!) are those dropped sleeves...they'd irritate me. I'd have them remodelled into straps (I prefer straps over strapless as I think it's a classier look)

I'd also have the lightest, plainest, chapel length veil to set it all off 😍

GoldieRetrieverLocks · 04/11/2024 20:44

It's a gorgeous dress and suits you - very flattering.

Personally, I'm objectively not a fan of those types of sleeves - I just think they look like straps that have fallen off the shoulders!

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 04/11/2024 20:45

It's a very pretty dress, and you look lovely. But if you're not sure, then you're not sure.

The dresses you tried - were they a selection of different styles and silhouettes or did you try all in the same style that you 'knew' you wanted iyswim?

I only ask, because when I went dress shopping I was amazed that a style I tried that I thought would be awful looked amazing. I thought I wanted full skirt and nipped in waist but reluctantly tried a mermaid / whatever it's called that fitted over the hips too on the advice of the shop and it looked so different to how I expected.

So I'd say try some more. You'll either find there's something you like more, or you'll be made more sure of the one you've chosen.

(and trying on dresses is fun!)

MrsMoastyToasty · 04/11/2024 20:46

I'm with @MillyMichaelson about the sleeves. Either get rid of them or have them so they fit on your shoulders (you can then wear a normal bra underneath because the bra straps will be hidden).
Apart from that it's a pretty dress and I would suggest a plain veil.

Edizzler25 · 04/11/2024 20:47

I’m sorry but this dress doesnt do anything for your waist, to give it definition

Twoshoesnewshoes · 04/11/2024 20:51

OP it’s lovely and you look amazing. I love the sleeves too.
plain veil from me.

AliMonkey · 04/11/2024 20:51

It's similar to mine, and I bought the first one I tried on - I did go and try some others on but went back at end of day and tried it again and bought it. I went in with intention of having "proper straps" so I could wear a normal bra but the dress was so well boned I didn't need to and didn't regret it.

But if you're not 100% sure, go back and try it again asap.

Alarae · 04/11/2024 20:56

It's lovely! I would not worry about having said yes quickly, if you know, you know!

For what it's worth, I booked an appointment at a specific store in Essex over an hour away from where my mum lived as they had a sample of a dress I saw online that I loved. While I tried on other dresses, I bought that dress in that appointment.

Efficiency is not a bad thing Grin

AmadeustheAlpaca · 04/11/2024 20:58

It's a pretty dress but to me it's averagely pretty and I think if you're not entirely comfortable with it you should try to exchange it or sort something out with the dress shop. Don't listen to a bunch of randoms on the Internet telling you it's gorgeous and stunning.. It's an attractive dress but nothing out of the ordinary, especially with the bare shoulders and I think you might be better with a dress that shows off your figure a bit more.
Good luck OP, go with your gut feelings, not with what Mumsnet says and all the best for your wedding.

itsmylife7 · 04/11/2024 21:04

It's a beautiful dress and fits you well.

More importantly how do YOU feel in it ?

martinisforeveryone · 04/11/2024 21:10

It's a pretty dress, but personally I think you could do much better for your figure.

A personal opinion but I think the bodice is too short and so it makes the overall look quite frumpy. It also looks like the skirt has too much material for you.

Plenty will disagree, but I also think if it's the dress for you, you know and you don't need to canvass opinion or be swayed by what other people say. What you want is a wedding gown that fills you with joy and excitement and on the day, you'll be beside yourself to put it on and enjoy the day together.

All that said, whichever you choose OP, am sure you'll be a beautiful and radiant bride.

Youvebeenframed · 04/11/2024 21:13

Absolutely stunning gown. Beautiful appliqué leaves and I love the veil too.
if I were to change anything it would for caplet sleeves to be lifted so the top line is more of a Bardot style rather than just resting down arms or alternatively as shoulder straps or removed all together.
You look amazing ⭐️

connie26 · 04/11/2024 21:14

It's beautiful!
