Please tell me about your Scottish elopement and recommendations for somewhere amazing to stay

My partner and I are planning to elope to Scotland in the near future, our only guest will be our 1 year old DD! We are planning an extremely simple ceremony with a humanist celebrant, haven't chosen which one yet, but it will be outside - a loch/hillside etc. We will find witnesses on the day.

Can anyone recommend somewhere to stay for a couple of nights? We want somewhere special with a view and probably rural. I would stay in a hotel but not ideal as it would be preferable if DD had her own room, so will probably need self catering.

I've looked on Airbnb/Booking but can't find anything particularly unusual. Perhaps near Loch Ness/Trossachs/Glen Coe but open to suggestions!

Would also love to hear of others' simple Scottish elopement stories.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds absolutely lovely @Zazaz but will the Wedding be legal?

DeathStarCanteenGal · 04/01/2024 23:03

course it will be legal @PinkMimosa
Humanist weddings are legal up here in Scotland....

heartofglass23 · 04/01/2024 23:05

I'd get a hotel with adjoining rooms. Who wants to be cooking/cleaning on their honeymoon!

PinkMimosa · 05/01/2024 09:11

Ah I didn't know that. Sorry @DeathStarCanteenGal. Was just checking as I've known more than one Woman to get married only to find that the Wedding wasn't legal further down the line.

Hope you have an amazing day Wink

I got married at Crear; it was amazing! The photographer and bagpipe player were our witnesses.

Oh and OP I always thought Castle Urquhart on the banks of Loch Ness would be a pretty stunning spot to get married
Or go to somewhere like Skye and you could have the mountains and the sea in the same view

Zazaz · 07/01/2024 08:07

Thanks so much for the suggestions, I’ll take a look.
yes it will be legal, we want to get married without a fuss by ourselves (well, with just a celebrant) outside :)

We are looking at doing the same with our 5dc !

There is some glampods pretty near Loch ness. For absolute beauty though the western Isles.

Look up soulful celebrant on instagram - she married us. Absolutely amazing. We had a tiny wedding & all our guests still talk about the beautiful ceremony. She does lots of wedding like you want.

Congrats OP, wishing you a lovely day. How exciting!!!

DH and I got married on a hill in the highlands, and it was so windy I couldn’t hear his vows 😂 so probably wouldn’t recommend that!!

My BF got married in the Kingsmills Hotel in Inverness, just her, her DH, and the officiant. They paid £89pppn to stay over for a few days to chill out and bask in the newly wed glow and she can’t recommend it enough.

Alternatively, had a quick search and found this website:

The pictures look beautiful and the scenery is unbelievable, so might be worth a look!
