Has anyone been to Denmark to get married?

As title really!

I've found a website that looks fairly helpful in getting everything in place.

My partner and I are both British citizens from birth and want to elope to Denmark for our special day.

Has anyone done this? 😁

Late to the thread, but my parents did, in 1970. Mum was Danish though. She arranged for the celebrant to perform the ceremony mostly in English. My Dad was quite surprised that the celebrant was a woman!
Did you already marry? Congratulations!

The comedian Katharine Ryan got married in Denmark. If you Google you’ll find info about it. Her husband and she are both Canadian but living in the UK.

We were invited 2 years ago there on a wedding. It was early June so the weather was fab! They had a great planner which we are using for our big day as well!

I am getting married in Denmark in Dec 2024! Have a look at Copenhagen City Hall website it give loads of information on legalities.

We have reserved our hotel dates and though flights are available just now we are waiting till the budge airlines release availability in the next 6.weeks

Only stress so far is that your license to marry is valid for 4 months so we can't do that till end of August or early Sept.

We are sort of eloping with only our children as guests. 2nd time round for both of us, however we think will be very special. Christmas in Copenhagen!

Just check to see if you need permission to marry forms from your local registrar in the U.K., some countries require them

How did your wedding go? Were you able to get the date you wanted in the end?
My partner and I are planning to get married in copenhagen in September and the big stress for me is not knowing until four months out if we can get the date we want or not

Did you end up eloping to Denmark? If so how did it go.

I did manage to pull it off! We did get married in December 2025 and it was exactly everything we wanted.
We earmarked a week and when our approval was granted we picked a date in that week and there were lots of times to pick from on that day.
I applied using an agency for peace of mind last week of August and sure enough got approval in one week so we were one of the first to have sight of the dates we wanted.
It was a bit stressful incase we had to re submit and go to the back of the queue bit all went well.
Copenhagen City Hall is beautiful inside and there is no queue of brides and grooms though we did see a few, it all added to the atmosphere and the registrars were so lovely. You will get your marriage certs there and then and on English. Our photographer was well used to photogrphy in tne city hall and you have as much time.as you like to take photos. It was literally perfect for us and our family.

Copenhagen is also magical at Christmas. TIVOLI gardens made our wedding experience all the better
