Bridesmaids dress colour Help! (With pics)

Hi, me again!

I posted a few days ago about having chosen my dress but its not ivory which makes me question my colour scheme.

So I think I've narrowed the choices down to the following colours.

Would love some opinions maybe you could give me your top 2 or 3?

It's not so much about the colour of the bridesmaids dress more which will make my dress look best (first official bridezilla moment!) All the colours would suit the bridesmaids I think. All beautiful girls 😊

I love the red.

namedhange · 05/09/2022 22:56

Definitely green

LoveBugBride · 06/09/2022 18:03

The red, sage green or bronze ones.

Misunderstoodagain · 06/09/2022 18:43

I like the first two, the red and darker sage. I think the others make everything a bit washed out and boring unless your having bright flowers.

Largethighsbadeyes · 06/09/2022 22:08

Turns out that Olive green dresses in a satiny material that would suit ages 39, 14, and 11 don't bloody exist 🙈🙈🙈

What I need is somewhere that does different styles in the colour I want...but jjs house has awful reviews and their colours don't match.

My budget is £100 each for moh and 2 x young bridesmaids, and £50 each for the flower girls.

If anyone can help me find a company I've not thought of that would be a godsend 🙏

The wine colour is much easier to find but general opinion and that of my mum and MOH is for the darker olive green

...knew I should have got an ivory dress. Too late now 😪

100% the sage/olive green colour, failing that 2nd choice the burgundy.

I don't think any of the others go particularly well with the colour of your dress personally.

inappropriateraspberry · 06/09/2022 22:22

1 or 2, the other colours are too soft next to your dress, you need some contrast. This will make the colour of your dress show (look less ivory) and make you stand out against the bridesmaids.

inappropriateraspberry · 06/09/2022 22:26

You don't need identical colours, as long as the shades are similar. I've just been to a wedding with 6 bridesmaids. All in long satin dresses, but all slightly different styles and different shades of burnt orange/terracotta. They looked lovely, and you know who the bridesmaids are anyway because they have flowers in their hands!
I had 2 bridesmaids who had completely different styles. One was floral and the other a solid colour that was in the floral design. They looked lovely together, both were comfortable in the dresses, and everyone knew they were the bridesmaids!

Largethighsbadeyes · 06/09/2022 22:52

I think you can get away with different styles in the same colour/shade

Or same styles in different colour/shade

That's my personal feeling on it anyway

I'm honestly not trying to be awkward 🙃 I have an image in my head and using you guys as a sounding board that's all

The Olive is my choice too. Burgundy looks like a school uniform and the lighter colours are too close to the bride’s dress.

It is overbudget but have you looked at Rewritten? Their Brooklyn and Florence dresses sound exactly what you're looking for and come in sage, olive and a gorgeous forest green. The sleek dress might be too much for the younger bridesmaids but the wrap dress could be lovely. How tall are they? If the dresses are getting altered you could use the offcuts as a ribbon (either in hair or as a sash) for the flower girls and have them in cream/ivory. Unfortunately you get what you pay for, and I don't think you'll find exactly what you're looking for at your price point. If the colour scheme and dresses are very important to you could you save the couple of hundred elsewhere?

However, I disagree that you need a shimmery fabric. I don't think a chiffon would clash with your dress at all so if the budget is non-negotiable maybe reconsidering the fabric would open up options. To go back to colour, I think the olive would work well but any jewel colour would also look lovely. I don't think the neutral tones you were looking at work at all, the contrast with a bolder colour will make you stand out and look fabulous.

Largethighsbadeyes · 07/09/2022 10:18

@KimmySchmitt thanks for the tip I'll have a look now.

It's hard for us to cut the budget elsewhere purely because of the number of guests. OH has a massive family and so do I. Just too many people that we want there 😅 however I could do some overtime or something and put that money to the fund.

I was relying on Asos to be honest which was fine when I was having light sage green but not so much for the other colours.

Luckily my mum is brilliant on the old sewing machine so we won't have to pay for alterations if we buy online and they are a bit off

@KimmySchmitt you ate a total lifesaver!!

Those dresses are perfect style and the olive green colour is exactly what I've been looking for and not too much over budget. Sure I can find the extra from somewhere.

Meeting the venue dresser on Monday so I'll see what we can do without and try and do a deal to save some cash.

Awesome thank you so much 😊

Yay! So glad you like them, they're beautiful dresses. You'll all look absolutely stunning 😊

Snowiscold · 07/09/2022 10:35

This company? duntery.uk/ All their dresses come in many colours and there’s a lot of choice of style.

inappropriateraspberry · 07/09/2022 11:16

I'd say hang on a little if you can. Soon all the Christmas party ranges will be released and you may find some suitable dresses then. Definitely darker/jewel tones like deep greens and burgundy.

Frogsalad · 07/09/2022 11:27

Dress 2. I really don't get why people get hung up on seasons/colours. Go with what you like.

MrsU2022 · 07/09/2022 11:36

Green is so popular so depends if you want to follow the crowd or do something different

I like the coppery colour in the second lot of photos!

uggmum · 07/09/2022 11:39

I love the sage green dress colour.

Largethighsbadeyes · 07/09/2022 11:50

OK so here's the dress suggested above with my dress and brown suit. What do we think?

There's a version which has sleeves/more flowy for the younger girls but MOH would rock this style.

I won't be buying u till next year as the younger ones are still growing but it's made me feel better knowing that there is definitely the kind of dress I've got in my head, out there.

Interesting to hear that green is very popular. I'm a wedding photographer and all I see is pink or navy blue

Sage green looks much better than olive green IMO.

KimmySchmitt · 07/09/2022 15:21

I think that's beautiful OP, I think the colours work really well together and also think they work really well for the season. What colour flowers are you thinking? Autumnal oranges would be gorgeous.

Green is very popular for bridesmaids apparently, although I think sage is probably more 'trendy' than olive. Anyway, who cares? You like it, and things are generally popular because they look nice. I've chosen light blue for my bridesmaids and apparently dusty blue is going to be the big trend next summer. I do really like the sage Rewritten dresses but not sure they'd work next to your dress, it could look a little washed out? The forest green would be lovely, although maybe better for a winter wedding. Personally I think the olive is perfect. Others will disagree though, you'll never please everyone!
