Can I have a glass of fizz on wedding day

Hi ladies, would a glass of fizz be ok to drink on my wedding day? Obviously I know drinking is a big no no. I haven't touched a drop since finding out and I have been eating everything right and taking all of the relevant vitamins, etc. However this is the biggest day of my life and due to the pandemic we have waited years for this day to come. I will be almost 12 weeks on my wedding day. I would love to have just a glass of fizz or a couple of weaker drinks to toast with my new husband... what do you think? Please don't judge, I am simply asking for advice :) thank you xx

If I were you I would read up on the risks and decide for yourself what you are comfortable with. Some people would have no problem and some people wouldn’t touch a drop. If you want one and won’t stress about it afterwards, then go for it, but if you think you’ll obsess about it afterwards then I wouldn’t bother. It’s your body and baby, so honestly just do what feels right for you.

It's fine - will make no difference to anything at all.

jackstini · 13/07/2022 12:29

You will get both ends of the scale on here!

I had an anniversary glass of fizz at 12 weeks and that was my decision and I was happy with it

Saying that, non-alcoholic Prosecco is not horrendous (unlike all other non- alcoholic wine! 🤢) so could go with that if you feel very unsure

MollyRover · 13/07/2022 12:31

Have a glass of fizz if you won't feel guilty later (you shouldn't feel guilty imo). I agree that 0% Prosecco is not terrible.

lifechanginglemoncake · 13/07/2022 12:34

I'd be relaxed about one glass but like another person mentioned, there are some decent 0% fizz options out there if you're worried.
Read Emily Oster's 'Expecting Better' for data on this and other pregnancy questions. It'll help you decide why you're comfortable with.

LilacPoppy · 13/07/2022 12:36

I wouldn’t , what’s the point. Marriage is not defined by a glass of champagne.

Ncwinc · 13/07/2022 12:36

A glass of fizz as a one off isn’t going to do any harm but if you drink it in front of people who know you’re pregnant you may get some arsehole making comments that might upset you on such an emotional day. Maybe have it with your DH in private?

Congratulations on the baby and the wedding Flowers

Thesearmsofmine · 13/07/2022 12:40

I did(I was much further along), I found I only ended up having about half of it as I didn’t really enjoy it anyway.

Glitterspy · 13/07/2022 12:41

It’s totally fine don’t worry.

Or to put it another way - if the worst happened would you blame the glass of fizz? You probably won’t even get to finish it, weddings are so busy.

CourtneeLuv · 13/07/2022 12:45

I wouldn't. For me personally, I'd feel too much guilt if anything happened.

You can toast with anything, water even.

Bumbers · 13/07/2022 12:47

I would!

SpotlessMind88 · 13/07/2022 12:52

Put some orange juice into the Prosecco to make a bucks fizz. You'll be basically having half a glass. Zerosecco is pretty nice though, you can get it from all the supermarkets

RockinHorseShit · 13/07/2022 12:53

It's perfectly fine I didn't touch a drop through pregnancy, bar a glass of fizz on my wedding day, no harm came to DD as a result. Enjoy your day x

rocksonrocks · 13/07/2022 12:58

God no. No amount of alcohol is safe during pregnancy IMO, but everyone's risk tolerance is different.

123ZYX · 13/07/2022 13:00

Depending on what you like to drink, there's normally some alternative that might work for you. For example, there are some nice gin alternatives like Pentire that you could have in a champagne glass with tonic to make it feel like you're joining in with the "fizz"

Talipesmum · 13/07/2022 13:03

It’ll be absolutely fine. There’s not much in a fizz glass anyway. But if you wanted to weaken it down I really like a white wine spritzer - half cold soda water, half wine.

lancaster · 13/07/2022 13:06

I would 100%. I was a guest at several weddings when pregnant and had 1 glass of fizz at all of them.

Doubleraspberry · 13/07/2022 13:08

I had a single glass of champagne on my wedding day. I'm not sure I really got the value out of it as I felt guilty (was ten weeks - drank a small glass of wine once a week later on without any similar feeling). I think now there are so many non-alcoholic alternatives, I would just have enjoyed one of those all day more. I had some alcohol-free 'champagne' recently that was very nearly as nice as the real thing.

NC12345665 · 13/07/2022 13:10

No.

Something tells me you won't be returning to the thread though, Hun xx

Beamur · 13/07/2022 13:12

I would without a shred of guilt.

MissMaple82 · 13/07/2022 13:28

A couple of glasses of fizz is no way going to be harmful.
