Did you name your tables?

Just that really - did your tables have names relevant to you and if so, what were they?
The only examples of this I can think of is one wedding I went to where the tables were named after Disney films and one where the tables were all places the Bride & Groom had travelled to together
I think it’s quite an easy way to add a personal touch rather than just numbers but I’m struggling to think of something we could use

What did you have?

I've never thought that being on table 6 makes me less important than table 3.

I just had numbers. Tbh, having tables names can sometimes be a bit weird. What does the countries you've visited on holiday have to do with your wedding?

I agree. I find table names terribly contrived.

MintyMoocow · 21/05/2022 13:22

We’d had 7 cats between us, each table had a photo of that cat on it and was named after them.

I bought old vinyl singles and printed personalised stickers of all our favourite albums. The vinyls were too scratched to play so I didn't feel that I was destroying musical history!

Oh and in answer to this my husband works in the music industry and we both love music so having album names made perfect sense to us.

sanityisamyth · 21/05/2022 13:27

Yes. We met in Bristol so we named the tables after different area. Top table was Clifton!

SageRosemary · 21/05/2022 14:01

We had sweets/chocolate - bit of fun with it, the people who were most likely to be driving Rolls Royce were put at the Rolo's table, the teachers were at Smarties, all the way down to my DH's wild but single friends who were Fruit & Nut. Each table had a little pile of the named sweets. There was great trading going on across the tables, it was a bit of an ice-breaker - asking a complete stranger to swap Mars Bars for half a bottle of red wine.

Blueuggboots · 21/05/2022 14:19

A relative had names of relatives who had died and a little bio about them with a photo (father of the bride died when she was quite young).

Another relative named their tables after english flowers.

ColourfulOnesie · 21/05/2022 14:21

Oh I love some of these ideas @SageRosemary that sounds so fun!

We got engaged in Las Vegas and are having casino tables at the reception as a nod to that so I guess there is a theme happening already, so maybe something to do with that? 🤔

Oh also I totally agree that I have never considered being at a lower table meaning I was liked less, however weddings do funny things to people, I’ve already had a text informing me that this person will not be attending if they only receive an evening invitation as it’s insulting (we’ve not sent invitations yet this is just a warning) so you never know!

Yes, we had our tables named after single malt Scotch whiskies. Laphproaig, Port Ellen, Talisker etc.

PuffyMcPuffFace · 21/05/2022 14:30

@ColourfulOnesie

That sounds perfect:

Blackjack
Poker (lol)
Roulette
Baccarat
Etc

PurpleBirch · 21/05/2022 14:30

We had names of famous couples from favour books or films.
Eg Jane Eyre and Mr Rochester

maddy68 · 21/05/2022 17:07

No just number them. Otherwise it's a bit cringe

stargirl1701 · 21/05/2022 17:08

We had places we had camped at around Scotland.

BerkyWithTheGoodHair · 21/05/2022 17:12

SheWoreYellow · 21/05/2022 11:13

We had places we’d visited. Seemed like a tiny way of avoiding people thinking ‘oh I’m only table 9’.

Table names are still pointless in that scenario, you're clearly down the pecking order when you're right at the back as we were at the last wedding we went to

Sleepyteach · 21/05/2022 19:27

We got married in the Peak District and named our tables after Peak District villages.

What did you have?

So we got married 8 years ago today and my absolute favourite thing we did was the table numbers...

the table numbers were on a plain card and along with the card was an envelope which had 'Do not open until..' and then the anniversary that correlates with the table number, so table 1's envelope said 'Do not open until your 1st Anniversary' and table 2 was 2nd Anniversary etc etc..

Each table was asked to write messages inside the card and then seal it in the envelope. These were collected up at the end of the night and kept safe (so safe my MIL lost them for a while! We laugh about it now but I was gutted at the time!)

Now, every year on our anniversary we open a card that was written X no of years ago. It's been SO special to have an element of our wedding still happening now but the cards are so interesting to read! One card even had a message from a relative who had since died unexpectedly so that was very very special.

I can PM you a pic if you're interested.. although I'd probably make the cards a bit prettier if I was doing it again.

I've never had anyone complain about what number table they were on and actually people who were there often ask if we've opened their card yet..! (Which shows actually that they forget about which table no they were!)

Honestly it's the best thing we did and I can not recommend it highly enough!

Houseplantophile · 22/05/2022 09:13

8 years ago THIS YEAR… not today! It’s not our anniversary yet.. but I’m excited for card no 8 from table no 8! 😆

PuffyMcPuffFace · 22/05/2022 13:10

@ShadowPuppets - brilliant!

PermanentlyTired03 · 22/05/2022 13:31

We had gin bottles. Different bottle on each table with sprigs of flowers in. Enjoyed emptying the bottles as well!

Twizbe · 22/05/2022 13:35

We had ships that were at the battle of Trafalgar.

It made sense as because;

We held our reception at The Trafalgar Tavern
My mum was born on Trafalgar day
DH is from a naval family
Half the names were from classics mythology and I studied classics.

CoverYourselfInChocolateGlory · 22/05/2022 13:44

We named our tables after Muppets. DH loves the Muppets. The rest of the wedding was quite sophisticated Smile

stimpyyouidiot · 22/05/2022 13:50

We had rollercoaster/ride names. We were going for our honeymoon in Florida.
