If you're getting married towards the end of the guest

Are you going to postpone? It doesn't look like much is going to change until there's a vaccine or treatment. I had hoped that track and trace might have made a difference but it's looking unlikely at this stage.

Our venue isn't even open, so I haven't been able to discuss rescheduling with them.

What are everyone's thoughts?

This thread is for people that are scheduled to get married this year, not just for helpful 'you've got no chance' comments from people that aren't.

We've changed it to 30th October and hoping it will go ahead then. If all we can have is registrar + two witness then we'll have that and re-arrange the rest for a later date.

AnxiousElephant77 · 11/05/2020 14:29

Thanks for replying. I've read through some of the details this morning and it seems reasonably unlikely that we're going to be able to have the wedding we planned.

We're waiting and seeing. I've suggested we need a cut off date to have decided by though. Our wedding is September so we've decided our cut off will be July.
It's the not-knowing that will stress me out.

Elbels · 11/05/2020 14:33

Ours is September too and it is making me so stressed when overall I am not a stressed person at all. I'm holding out hope for clarification on timings in the fuller guidance today but I feel like I'll be sorely disappointed! Irish guidance indicates August for larger gatherings so I'd imagine England will be later than that.

I want to postpone now until April or next September but that sets back our trying to have a baby plans and that worries me too as I'm not young. My partner is happy to wait and see.

AnxiousElephant77 · 11/05/2020 14:34

My partner is happy to wait and see as well, I'm a bit more, erm, highly strung about the whole thing.

We've postponed from September this year. From your other thread you've stated you're getting married in December (IIRC !!) I think you will be legally able to marry in December, will that be the wedding you have planned now, probably not. Small wedding, probably 10 or so people. Depends on what YOU personally want to do and what's important. There are options which I'm sure you are aware of. It is strange you cannot even communicate with your venue by email to discuss rescheduling. Hope you get sorted soon.

AnxiousElephant77 · 11/05/2020 20:15

I think the events time have all been furloughed, so the communications have been devolved to a different team. They won't reschedule anything unless it has been directly affected. Which at this stage, with 7.5 months to go, doesn't apply to us yet. It's frustrating but understandable I suppose.

Op I know people who are optimistic for an October wedding. I think worst case scenario will be getting wed with reduced guest number. For some people this is fine but others will postpone until next year to have the large wedding they want.

I was originally booked for this coming weekend. We then moved that to September. We have now decided to have a registry office wedding with immediate family (hopefully our best friends will be able to join in the pub after) in September and have the main party with everyone next May. We also plan to have humanist ceremony on the day in May so that we can still have a ceremony with friends and family, and I can wear my dress! This would mean that plans for a baby would be postponed for a couple of months which isn’t too bad.

I could have the legal ceremony next may instead of a humanist one but I don’t want to put my life on hold if there’s a chance it might not go ahead. If May doesn’t end up going ahead we will try for a baby and just have the humanist ceremony /renewal of vows and party in a couple of years. Hopefully our suppliers will be kind and let us do that. It’s not ideal but celebrating twice could be quite fun!

Following a chat with DP last night he's come round to my way of thinking and we've asked the venue for dates next spring. Hopefully that will be enough time and would mean that we actually have a more pleasant planning experience and can experience some of the fun bits rather than the burning lake of fire that is Covid.

Burning lake of fire with all my dreams in it Grin
