What do you think to this dress?

It wasn’t my size as it’s made to measure but this was just an idea. Opinions welcome. Please ignore visible bra, I just had my old, worn work underwear on!

The people I know who regretted spending 2k on a dress and usually £25k on a wedding were the ones who then struggled to afford mat leave.

I spent £160 on my dress and only a few thousand on my wedding. I was then able to be a SAHM and mortgage free before 40.

It was never a priority to have a big wedding. I know people are different but priorities change when you want babies. I bit my tongue when people said how lucky I was. ( when they had been on 6k honeymoons)

AndAnotherNameChanger · 06/11/2019 17:58

I like the second best as they currently are.

How old are you? Judging by your figure (fab and v. youthful) the first is too old for you. I don't like the skirt on the third.

A friend of mine had a dress similar in style to the fourth (i.e. with that low front), she had a panel put in by the woman who did her alterations and it looked lovely. I actually think if you ignore the cutout bit the fourth looks very flattering on you, shape-wise, so you could consider something like that.

Loopytiles · 06/11/2019 18:00

You have a great figure, the first one is OK but not nice enough for £1700 - you have lots of great and more affordable options!

Loopytiles · 06/11/2019 18:02

I think you’re wrong about your hips and that a fitted skirt could look v good.

Solitaryradiator · 06/11/2019 18:05

One of the earlier pictures seems to have your name on the screengrab

Voila212 · 06/11/2019 18:06

I actually prefer the second too even before I saw the price.

Msgiggles30 · 06/11/2019 18:09

I like the 2nd one best. Have you got a wed2be store in your area? They have similar dresses to that one but with the sparkly belt as extra. They are generally around £500.

MrMeSeeks · 06/11/2019 18:09

I prefer the second ( the first in your secind group of pics) much nicer!

Screamqueenz · 06/11/2019 18:17

I love the first one of the group you just posted, absolutely gorgeous and very flattering on you. It's perfect!

WhatchaMaCalllit · 06/11/2019 18:46

I'd go for the second one and think of the veil you could get or stole/wrap (to give you the sleeves) and jewellery with the difference in price.
Having watched loads of episodes of SYTTD it seems to me that the dresses with the handkerchief style skirt are all over the place and will date (like mutton chop sleeve shoulders did in the 1980's) .

The second dress is timeless!

Loopytiles · 06/11/2019 19:11

Or think of the other potential uses of the money!

IfIShouldFallFromGraceWithGod · 06/11/2019 19:14

I like the third one of the first group. The first is nice but not worth so much more cash imo

Majorcollywobble · 06/11/2019 19:19

I can’t see £1700 in that first dress at all .
I’d urge you to diligently search on line .
Out daughter had her heart set on a dress which would cost £1200 and I was more than happy to buy it . Through a coincidence the same dress unworn came up in a private ad for £ 400 . It’s perfect . The other bride just changed her mind .

notthemum · 06/11/2019 19:36

The first one (on its own) is too old for you.
Not normally something j would go for but I love the ruffle skirted one.

Brideof2020 · 06/11/2019 19:46

@Talkthirty2me I love the second dress (the first in the post with 3) I really think its beautiful and you look amazing- then I saw that's it's only £200 !!! WOW!!! It looks so much more expensive.
As with all PPs I don't like the last one, the third just isn't my style and the top of the first one just doesn't look right- not in the way it would fit you, but it seems to make an otherwise pretty dress just 'not right' for some reason, which I'm struggling to explain! Hmm and for £1700 it would definitely be a no from me.

Talkthirty2me · 06/11/2019 20:36

Thanks all. I’m 31, 5’7 and around a size 12-14. Our budget is around £10k-£12k and that’s one the highest side. So the fact that not all of you are impressed by the most expensive dress is really making me reconsider spending that much!

@Majorcollywobble how lucky was that! I might keep an eye out on private ads for new dresses!

I love the first. I really dislike the low cleavage one with the sheer bit by the boobs. It looks like a bit of plastic. The first is lovely.

Heartofglass12345 · 06/11/2019 20:52

The second one, the first one is like a t shirt style, I think the second one looks lovely 😊

Babushkacandle · 06/11/2019 20:53

I love the £1600 one but sorry the first seems so dowdy.
I spent £1000 on my dress and regretted it. If you’re not feeling the £200 it’s not a bargain- many brides get a dress wobble (I did) so it’s important that you at least love how you feel in it.

sadpigeon · 06/11/2019 21:52

I think the 2 more princess shaped ones look amazing on you (the 599 and 1600 ones). If I were you I would try more on with that shape.

Majorcollywobble · 06/11/2019 22:06

You have a fab figure and at 5’7” can carry off most styles . Keep trawling - you have time yet .

Talkthirty2me · 06/11/2019 22:10

@sadpigeon do you mean the ones with the “fluffy” layered type skirts?

Talkthirty2me · 06/11/2019 22:10

@Majorcollywobble That’s very true. Thank you Flowers

Talkthirty2me · 06/11/2019 22:11

@Babushkacandle why did you regret it?
