Any brides doing a speech?

I'm going to do a speech, have heard it's not really the done thing, and have witnessed it too. Are any other brides doing one?

I did a speech at my wedding. I stared by saying "those who know me well know that there was very little chance I would stay quiet today..." or something like that 😂.

I figured that I am just as much a part and parcel of the day as DH and I wanted to have my say. We split the thanks between us.

I did, and it was great! My best friend did one too. I really wanted there to be the same number of women as men speaking, it was important to me not to be spoken for, and to set an example to my young niece and nephews of equal representation!

I have also spoken at two friends' weddings, one as a bridesmaid and one as 'best woman' for a male friend.

I do stand up comedy in my spare evenings so there is no way in hell I'm not speaking at my wedding. Have my family in belly aching laughter at family events so why would some tradition stop me from doing that at my wedding? It's gonna be great.

I'm speaking. I'm a prolific diary writer so I'm doing a mini-reading of a few snippets from when we first got together, hopefully it's a combination of funny and sweet!

I'm wondering the best way of doing it, just free speech or having a few key pointers on my phone or what?!
