not going to change the foie gras as am sure I have some eaters of it coming.

Do you know how it is made?

hairyhogwash · 25/05/2018 17:14

I have expressed my disappointment , waiting to hear back.

@PurpleDaisies I certainly do, it's not my place to start reading the riot act to individuals who might fancy it.

By paying for it, your supporting horribly cruel treatment of animals.

Frosty66612 · 25/05/2018 17:18

I would be very fed up if I went to a wedding and saw foie gras as an option.
Menu A is better all round (other than the melon soup which sounds rank). I’d personally want the burrata and lamb on Menu B but the veggie option is so awful that you can’t go with that one.

SomeKnobend · 25/05/2018 17:23

So much fish, grim. Pate would be much better than fois gras and cheaper too.

expatinscotland · 25/05/2018 17:26

Menu A

MikeUniformMike · 25/05/2018 17:42

Veggie food at weddings is usually quite poor. I'd probably go for menu a.

expatinscotland · 25/05/2018 17:47

Veggie options at these things are usually going to be very poor unless it's an all-veggie/vegan wedding.

SpikyCoconut · 25/05/2018 17:51

Another one who'd have serious issues with Foie Gras. And you can't serve carrots as a main. They're vegetarians, not rabbits.

DextroDependant · 25/05/2018 18:14

Both sound quite bad but you Seriously can't serve a plate of carrots so A it is.

randomsabreuse · 25/05/2018 18:28

Very style over substance with few "populist" options. A good proportion of my wedding guests would have gone hungry - certain family members on both sides - but you know your guests.

The veggie options are very meh - I made a point of tasting the veggie options at out tasting and they were great- and generally I would worry that the chef was a bit shit if that was all they could come up with - so the fancy stuff might be a bit bought in if that makes sense.

Sorry to be a downer but have had some interesting meals at events where the veggie options didn't match up to the meat eaters on paper - but all were on the same - not great- level when eaten!

hairyhogwash · 25/05/2018 18:29

I might ask to actually sample these menus

I reckon they got the carrot idea off one of the bake off with chefs shows on a little while ago - can't remember which one it was but somebody did a roasted steak of carrots wtih assorted other ways of doing carrots as his veggie main. He did it well and they enjoyed it but I could hear the rustle of delight as thousands of caterers and chefs across the land thought whoopee we can serve a couple of carrots and charge gazillions for it...

I also think they are putting foie gras on there to justify an extra few £££ - it's something that people know is expensive and rarely buy themselves, so it's something that if they can get a cheap supplier of it, people won't be any the wiser and if they don't like it they can reassure themselves that they won't buy it for themselves again. Nobody is going to go to the wedding and say they can't believe they haven't got foie gras on the menu - they can quite easily create something with more reasonably priced ingredients but then they wouldn't be able to charge quite such a mark up as you'd notice...

Ditto the guests are going to go to the wedding and think they can't believe that you're only going to serve carrots to the guests as a main course. I would ask if they would be happy to serve just carrots to meat eaters and how they can call it a balanced reasonable meal. Would be interested to know how many times they have made themselves a plate of carrots and nothing else for a special meal...

Might be worth asking them what veggie options they have served over the last few years so you can see the sort of thing they used to offer and thus should definitely be able to cook that is within the right sort of price band for this sort of meal.

Peterrabbitscarrots · 27/05/2018 09:34

I would ask to sample both tbh prior to using these caterers. I agree with others who say it’s style over substance. I showed it to my chef DH who was amused at coffee and tea “infusions” instead of just coffee and tea.

peonyandrose · 27/05/2018 09:38

@Peterrabbitscarrots I know it's poncey but as I said earlier no chance of changing caterers as it's a restaurant we are going to!
The manager has said he is going to discuss with the chef on Tuesday ...

heartbrokenhettie · 27/05/2018 09:46

Neither. Put off both as soon as I read foie gras.

CurlsLDN · 27/05/2018 09:46

Are you sure the cheese is vegetarian? Youve mentioned it a couple of times as a way to make the veggie meal better all round, which sounds good, but lots of cheese isn't veggie so worth checking

SouthWestmom · 27/05/2018 10:10

Why is wedding food so wanky?

Who eats this stuff for pleasure?

As a veggie the options are terrible.

PurpleDaisies · 27/05/2018 10:12

Neither. Put off both as soon as I read foie gras.

Op havd you noticed that there are a lot of people saying this about fois gras?

BackforGood · 27/05/2018 16:47

CurlsLDN Cheese isn't meat, so surely it is vegetarian.
Quite likely to not be vegan, but it doesn't contain meat.

MyDcAreMarvel · 27/05/2018 16:49

Menu B, menu A sounds vile.

PurpleDaisies · 27/05/2018 16:49

It often contains animal rennet.

RavenLG · 27/05/2018 16:51

Some cheeses contain animal rennet so will not be vegetarian. I only know of parmesan but I'm not vegetarian so there may be others.
Just because it doesn't contact meat means it's suitable for veggies.
