As a Veggie, definitely A. ‘Risotto’ is a bit boring & predictable but a hundred times better than B. At a wedding, as a vegetarian, I’m happy if some of the meal is edible, I don’t expect the meal to be amazing. The B&G have enough to do!

GahWhatever · 25/05/2018 13:09

Both menus look lovely. Menu B edges it for me but I'd be thrilled to bowl up at a wedding with either of those, and in your shoes probably wouldn't choose to pay an extra £10 a head.
Agree that foie gras (on both menus) can be divisive, but you know your guests and we don't, so it may not be an issue.

If you prefer B don't worry about the carrots not being special. They are an 'thing'.

hairyhogwash · 25/05/2018 13:13

Thank you for all your opinions , I think I might well go for menu A, and no cheese! The guests will actually be having canapés (I'm working on the assumption 4 will be enough pp) as ceremony is late afternoon and dinner from 6:30ish so just something to line the stomach for boozing!

A

Loyaultemelie · 25/05/2018 13:17

As a veggie I really probably wouldn't eat either but a at a pinch

Sidge · 25/05/2018 13:36

Neither really. A at a push.

I mean, melon soup sounds disgusting, and a plate of carrots for the veggie main is just pathetic, however much they ponce them up.

It all sounds a bit try-hard, and much as I love good food I like simple things done well. Those menus are a bit "pan fried virgin zebra, with a Weetabix mash and Pimms coulis" sort of style.

IHaveBrilloHair · 25/05/2018 13:36

I'd love a cheese course as I'm a total cheese monster but most people won't be bothered and £9 ph is a bit much really.

hairyhogwash · 25/05/2018 16:11

I have asked what else they can do for the vegetarians. If I go for menu b then there is some cheese available for dessert , which people can choose.

Option A because B has foie gras on the menu which is just cruel

Its on both :(

LOL7 · 25/05/2018 16:34

Honestly I would probably go with a different catering company, if possible OP? Otherwise menu B and hope the two vegetarians are too polite to say anything about the carrots. The meat eaters options sounds lovely though :)

Wolfiefan · 25/05/2018 16:36

Foie Gras is not something I would eat or serve either. Yuck.

PurpleDaisies · 25/05/2018 16:37

I’m veggie. Both menus look pretty poor really.

IHaveBrilloHair · 25/05/2018 16:39

I love foie gras, but it's probably best not to serve it as lots of people arent happy eating it Ill have there's

UrsulaPandress · 25/05/2018 16:39

I don't care how many ways a carrot can be cooked, I would laugh if someone presented me with rice and carrots for a main.

And the foie gras is unfortunate.

BlueTrousers · 25/05/2018 16:40

I would literally only eat sticky toffee pudding off both of those menus - are these definitely your only 2 options?

Pollaidh · 25/05/2018 16:40

Neither is great for veggies, but the A option is the better one.

Foie Gras - most of the meat eaters I know (the Brits anyway) won't eat it.

IHaveBrilloHair · 25/05/2018 16:43

Who are your guests and what will they expect?
If I was getting married, My guests would know there'd at least be a nod to foodie, as I am.

SleepingStandingUp · 25/05/2018 16:44

I'd struggle to pick a starter off A so B. It might be worth asking what the carrot dish actually is

SleepingStandingUp · 25/05/2018 16:45

Just googled fois gras (I'm common, wasn't really sure what is was)

🐥😢

Doobigetta · 25/05/2018 16:48

I'd go for A.
Btw, I just got married and had similar timings to your wedding. We didn't serve canapes or a late buffet, just the three course dinner at 6:30ish and cake later. It was plenty. Bear in mind that a late afternoon ceremony means nearly all of your guests will be able to fit lunch in, either at home or by breaking their journey. It's not like when you have to travel to arrive at 12 for the ceremony and then be at your hosts' merce until whenever they serve dinner.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 25/05/2018 16:51

Menu A looks lovely but I'm not a veggie.

BackforGood · 25/05/2018 17:00

I think both menus are a bit too style over substance

This ^
I'd be pasting on a fixed smile if offered either menu, tbh, and I've never considered myself a picky eater.

hairyhogwash · 25/05/2018 17:04

I've asked about the possibilities of different veggie mains , not going to change the foie gras as am sure I have some eaters of it coming.
No chance of changing catering as it's the venue giving me these menus and that is set in stone , may have to go and argue the point in person!

OP posts:
hairyhogwash · 25/05/2018 17:11

Definitely feel stingy not doing canapés but it's an extra cost plus they won't be that hungry surely?!

newyearwhoohoo · 25/05/2018 17:12

The veggie options are really poor and lack thought. I would be quietly disappointed but obviously wouldn't say anything! You sound a thoughtful bride thinking about your guests and so it might be worth asking chef to rethink the veggie options to at least include some protein which even vegetarians need.
