How far in advance do you have to book your venue?

Obviously this is totally dependent on the specific venue but just ball park figures - how far in advance did you book your venue?

I got engaged recently and would love to be able to get married summer 2018 but not sure if it's going to be too late for that.

My DH is a photographer and we take bookings upto 2 years in advance, but most common is a year in advance. June thru to September are our busiest time, unusually this summer we have had a few Thursday and Friday weddings.
DH always recommends that once you have your ceremony and reception venue booked need to get your photographer booked. As most photographers only do one wedding a day.

I arranged my whole wedding in 7 weeks lol. We got marred on a Friday in December though....

I booked my wedding August 2016 for September 2018. 2017 was fully booked for Friday/Saturday/Sunday weddings at the time. 2018 is now fully booked, people are starting to book for 2022 Shock

I would say next summer is totally doable Smile I got engaged in March and had to book pretty much straight away to secure my venue for June 2018 and had take a Friday (not a huge issue) as all the Saturdays were full. If you can be flexible it will be no problem. Other than that it was only our 1st choice photographer that we have been unable to get so far but no problems otherwise x good luck and congratulations Smile

We started looking in may and at that point there were limited options for summer a year later. Choose the venue first then pick a date it's available not the other way round!

The result of people doing provisional bookings 2 years in advance is that you do get cancellations a few months before too.

We found our ideal venue and booked it for Easter Sunday next spring! A bit earlier than planned but we always wanted a short engagement so it works fine. Now just to sort the dress, photographer and everything else!
