Cost of making a bespoke bridesmaid dress vs shop bought one.

I've three petite bridesmaids (5ft 2 to 5ft 3) and I'm struggling to find a nice light champagne/gold full length sequined bridesmaid dress like this.

The ones I have seen cost over £400 each and would undoubtedly need tailoring as my brides are short and I can't find petite off the shelf anywhere - so would add extra cost to the dress.

If I went to a tailor - what would be a reasonable charge to make a dress similar to the above? Or should I buy off the shelf and try to get it tailored to fit? And if you know anywhere that sells a dress like this, please let me know.

Also - if you are busty, would this dress/neck shape be suitable or not?

Looking at the photo, it looks a simple design that any competent dressmaker should be able to do, but sequinned fabric is expensive and a PITA difficult to sew IME.

If you can find a competent dressmaker, you are likely to saved some money and get a more made-to-measure result, but alterations to an off the peg dress wouldn't be too difficult either, and maybe a little less stressful if your timing to the wedding is short.

Lovely, thank you for your reply faxed. I'll try and buy cheap off the peg and get it tailored I think. Cost of fabric these days is so expensive!!!

Before you buy try the indian material shops, lots of things with glitter/beads/sparkles and much cheaper than elsewhere.
