Would it be totally nutty of me to ask them to itemise the catering? Fairly big price rise from the original quote.

We had a meeting with the caterer today and she's come back and quoted us with £150 more than the original quote she gave us.

I'm still quite happy with the price as it's £38 a head for a 3 course meal, cake and teas and coffee, but i just can't understand where the extra money has come from.

The only things we changed were:

  • adding teas and coffee
  • half of our party is vegetarian, so instead of us having 1 meat option, we now have a meat and a vegetarian. Obviously i know this is more work and ingredients, but it's still for the same number of people.
  • We actually are having 3 different cakes instead of 1 big wedding cake, which she had put in our first quote. The 1 big cake cost £125 and the 3 cakes we're having now come to under £100, so again, not seeing where the big price hike is.
  • 2 sandwiches and crudites for the kids as they wouldn't really enjoy the food we're having.

Can i ask for an itemisation? Not for every little thing, but just for things like the cost of the main per head, number of teas and coffees per person she factored for.

Of course you can ask!

You answered your own question.. More work, more ingredients.

Sounds quite fair for all those extras!

cakewitch · 23/02/2015 19:00

You answered your own question there.. More ingredients, more time.

I totally agree that it is more work and more ingredients, but i can't see how it's £150 more work and ingredients.

Thats 25% more, to put it in perspective.

I'm not saying she's trying to con us, but i'd just like to know what i'm paying for.

I'd imagine teas and coffees would be charged at £2 per head. Would this make up some of the difference.

Caterers do usually charge more for 2 different dishes than for everyone having one. Could you make the veggie option the only option?

The kids meals may be £4/5 per head.

But of course this should all be itemised.

Can I ask where you're getting your catering from for that price!? Very jealous, we keep getting quoted £80 a headConfused
