5 weeks till my DIY wedding, what have I forgotten, please fire questions at me to help me get organised!

The main things are done: registrar booked, promises written, rings ready, so everything else is a bonus, but I just feel all over the place and cannot seem to get an organised head on making sure we have thought of everything!

What do I need to do, check, book, organise now to make sure the day runs smoothly? It is a small DIY wedding, and I am happy to make things if need be!

Help please!

Do you know how you will do your hair and make up?
Have you tried to walk in your shoes and sit down in your dress?
Travel arrangements/parking at the registry office?
RSVPs all received back?
Food?
Flowers?
Jewellery you will wear?
Dp has a haircut booked? Suit dry cleaned?
Wedding night arranged?
Underwear sorted?

Do you have DCs?

Baby sitter/things to keep them occupied?

Have not tried sitting down in my dress!

Not sure on earings yet.

I doubt D has thought to book a haircut, I always do it for him but want him to get it professionally done this time! Thanks for that!

One DS, aged 11.

He will be walking me down the isle and a witness to sign the register. We are staying the night at the venue and he has his won room, so can go to bed when he has had enough. Not sure about entertainment for him, might buy him some new books for when he gets bored...

One Question, if I am seeing a lot of the guests the next morning at the venue, for breakfast and a tidy up, do I need a special outfit? what would others do? Something new or something from my wardrobe?

Jenny socks for DP is on our list of things to buy, and socks for DS too. shoes are sorted.

Do you have to sort out your own music for the ceremony and walking down the aisle?

Get someone to video the speeches if nothing else!

Yes bread, we have picked the music but are unsure about who to ask to actually be in charge of playing it. That's actually a really good point and we need to arrange it!

I had a cheesy vest top which said Mrs X on the back. I loved it!

Somewhere to put presents/cards that get brought on the day, and extra sellotape to attach the cards to the right gift/book to jot down who brought something

Can DS be a witness aged 11?

Is there anything that needs to be taken to the venue, e.g. cake, suitcases, flowers and who is taking them and when?

Do you need to write place name cards/menus/thank you notes for people?

I had a new outfit for breakfast the next day but made sure it was something I'd get good use out of in the future.

For the morning after you'd want something very comfortable but pretty, I'd guess. Maybe along the lines of this or this

someone to take gifts home if you are leaving straightaway for honeymoon

is venue doing all the food/drink, or do you need to sort wine glasses, champagne for toasts, etc

entertainment for other children there

big umbrellas to get you from car to registry to venue, if weather is crap

Yes Tiffany, DS can be a witness, there is no age limit as long as they know what they are doing.

So much to take to the venue, we are renting the space but everyhing else we have to do ourselves, including the catering.

Glasses booked, PIL bringing them.

Place names need to b written, have asked my BIL to do it as he has beautiful handwriting.

We have said no presents, and we will nip home before going on honeymoon so that should be ok.

Have not though of what happens to flowers after the wedding, should I just ask guests to take them?

No car neede, we are getting married at the venue, they have a licence. We will be there from Friday night, get married on Saturday, and leave on Sunday.

Have ordered umbrellas for guests if it is raining and they want to go outside.

think it through from your guests' point of view - no long gaps for endless photos, fed and watered at intervals (and they know when so know if they should turn up having already had lunch), parking, transport.

underwear - unless you are planning to show it, wear what you normally do! Maybe a new pair of knickers for the occasion?

Sand or score the bottom of your shoes.They can be really slippy even on carpet same for bridesmaid etc.
Pack mini emergency pack if your not getting ready at home headache tablets,plasters,needle &thread,Imodium.

Maybe give the flowers to people who have helped you with the preparations?

The wedding and timings etc have all been planned with the guests in mind, everyone knows what is happening when, photos all happen at the same location as the wedding while we are having the drinks after the ceremony, no long waits. Lots of drinks and food provided.

Should be good fun!
