Engagement ring- does it come to bed?

So, we chose the ring together and it arrived yesterday and I have been having fun twiddling it and catching sight of the sparkle every now and again and getting used to how it feels on my finger. But I realised last night that I'm not sure if I should take it off at night for bed. DP says he's never slept with an engaged woman before so he wouldn't know Grin. Kept it on last night but was very conscious of it and a bit uncomfortable. Do you take yours off?

I don't have a habit really. I wear mine far more than not, but at bed time it just depends whether I have it on at the time or not. I'd never deliberately take it off for bed.
I take it off if I'm washing with soap as it makes it very cloudy, but keep it on for most other things inc swimming, gardening etc unless doing something very heavy. Equally some mornings I forget to put it back on after shower and sometimes over a lazy weekend it might stay off for several days. I feel a bit undressed without it though.

LemonYellowSun · 07/04/2015 19:04

I used to take mine off but I don't anymore.

Are all the linky posts from the same spammer, do you think?

SoupDragon · 07/04/2015 20:06

I use the ring from a tin of spam.

I never take any of my rings off, I sleep, shower, swim in them. Same with my diamond earrings. A lovely jeweller told me that swimming was a great way to keep diamonds clean. If they fit well they won't come off.

ParkingFred · 23/04/2015 21:44

I rarely wear mine, or my wedding ring.

I wear my eternity ring 24/7.

My engagement ring's quite er, blingy - I might wear it for a special occasion.

The only time I take my wedding and engagement rings off is when I'm using fake tan.

Shower, bath, swimming, decorating...they stay on.

MarlowsDiamonds · 29/04/2015 13:33

It will not affect the rings quality whether you decide to take it off or not. It is designed to with stand.

Kel1234 · 13/12/2015 14:54

I got engaged in January 2015, and married in April 2015. I wear all three of my rings all the time. I wear my plain band wedding ring first, then my eternity ring, then my engagement ring.
But I've always worn rings from a young age so I'm used to them. So wasn't weird for me at all.
I never take them off, as personally I feel that would be disrespectful to my husband and my marriage. I'm proud to be married and wearing my rings shows the world this. My husband is exactly the same.
I've always worn all my jewellery all the time, it's part of who I am.

I never remove mine it has great sentimental value as it was my fiancé late mother's.

AcrosstheSea · 27/09/2017 22:07

I don't want to take mine off but wonder if I will damage it or scratch myself my wearing t to sleep?

ujerneyson · 27/09/2017 22:14

I take mine off every night, I hate sleeping in jewellery and I also take them off if I bath or shower as I hate getting water underneath them.

Doobigetta · 28/09/2017 21:34

Mine comes off every night- I don't want to smack him in the face with it by accident! It goes into its box, which sits on my bedside table. I take it off when I shower, cook or clean, and I leave it at home when I go to the gym or the pool. I'm not going to risk losing or damaging it, it's too precious.

Fernanie · 28/09/2017 21:40

I never take mine off (except for kneading bread - also have a special 'ring dish' in the kitchen! Fistbumps @WoodBurnerBabe)
If you do tend to put yours on and off frequently, make sure it's insured! I've heard far too many stories of people losing them in between wears.

alexbbb · 04/10/2017 15:46

Mine is comfortable:) I didn't want my hubby to spend a fortune and told I wanted a smaller stone. So it's comfy to go to bed with it:) Btw, we found a great engagement ring on this website pawnbat.ca/jewelry/rings/engagement-rings/ at half-price.

Liz38 · 04/10/2017 15:49

I'd not taken mine off at all, engagement, wedding, eternity. 15 years in total and I seem to have developed an allergy to them in the last month. Very odd. I have had to take them off and i hate being without them.

Runningoutofusernames · 04/10/2017 15:53

Congratulations on your engagement! 😊 Have barely removed mine since we got engaged 8 years ago. My DH is in insurance and said that almost all rings are lost by people who take them off to shower etc, hardly any have issues with diamonds falling out - and it doesn't get in the way at all, I'm used to it. Just get it checked every couple of years to make sure the prongs are still firm on the stone and you're good!

I put both my rings on my watch strap straight away when I take them off to keep them safe. I never wear any jewellery to bed, can't stand it, it makes me itch. I find even my platinum wedding and engagement rings irritate my finger after a while. I love taking them off, it's like taking your bra off, comfy and relaxing!
I don't bother taking them on holiday, (just take a cheap waterproof watch so I don't get my nice one ruined by sand.) and always remove rings before swimming, showering, bathing the baby, baking, etc.
It took me a long time to get used to having to wear rings everyday and I couldn't do it all the time but each to their own, do what suits you.

pp2017 · 09/10/2017 23:35

My rings all come off for bed, showering/bathing and any kind of sporting activity (gym/running/Pilates) 😳

I don’t understand leaving them on permanently - surely they get dirty underneath, I clean mine regularly and have had them professionally repolished twice?!

senzaparole03 · 23/10/2017 12:29

Before i got engaged I never took off my other ring, a small diamond and sapphire ring I received from my family for my 30th.

However, my engagement ring has quite a high rise to it, so it can scratch or get caught. And so, since I got engaged I now take off both rings before going to sleep.

Showers - sometimes off, sometimes on. London water is very hard so I'm sure it's not very good for them.

Washing up - usually leave them on, as so many people tell me the detergent is good for the stones.

Baking or gym I usually take off.

internetCrazies · 23/10/2017 12:34

My engagement and wedding rings stay on all the time. There was a bit of redness and irritation just under it at first meaning I had to learn to dry my hands better and my skin got used to having them on. It's been about 5 years since I got the engagement ring and 3 for the wedding one. When I do take them off for any reason, I almost immediately misplace them and have a few seconds sheer panic until I remember where I put them! 😂

DandelionAndBedrock · 23/10/2017 12:40

I sent DSis (married for a year when I got engaged, and proud owner of a massive engagement ring) an urgent text the first Monday after I got engaged asking if I needed to take my ring off before putting tights on. I got a Hmm face back.

I take it off for showering (wash my hair every night and worry about the soap loosening it), the gym, and messy cooking. My mum rarely wears hers though, saying her wedding band effectively replaced it. DP's grandmother got me a lidded ring dish so that lives next to my jewellery box - every evening I put my earrings and ring in before my shower, then ring back on when I get out.

sabrinathemiddleagedwitch1 · 23/10/2017 12:56

Op please keep it on. If it does t fit get it altered asap. A week after we got engaged we went to the coast for the day. I very nearly didn't wear my ring for two reasons. It was slightly to big and I didn't want to get sand on it HmmI'm not normally that precious Anyway when we got home we had been burgled. All my jewellery had been taken. I was heartbroken as some of it I'd inherited. Thank god I wore my ring. You will get used to it. I never take mine of now.
