Engagement ring- does it come to bed?

So, we chose the ring together and it arrived yesterday and I have been having fun twiddling it and catching sight of the sparkle every now and again and getting used to how it feels on my finger. But I realised last night that I'm not sure if I should take it off at night for bed. DP says he's never slept with an engaged woman before so he wouldn't know Grin. Kept it on last night but was very conscious of it and a bit uncomfortable. Do you take yours off?

I take my engagement and eternity rings off for work as I have to but never take my wedding ring off. Until I started the job I'm in now I never took my rings off.

My e-ring has quite a high setting on it so I've always taken it off for bedtime/cleaning/showering.

I keep my w-ring on for sleeping but take off for cleaning/showering & now I have a dd I only put my e-ring on when going out - who wants nappy juice/snot/dribble in their engagement ring? Wink

My rings are on all the time except when I'm at work (work with food).

My boss has told me he will let me wear a plain ring instead of my actual engagement ring which I thought was quite nice (still acknowledges that there is some weirdo who wants to marry me!) I just haven't got round to buying one yet. My other ring on my right hand has to be off though.

I do take them off to bleach my hair even though I wear gloves because I'm frightened the bleach might melt them or something.

I wear all my rings (wedding, engagement and a heirloom one) all the time, they only come off for 'messy' cooking - pastry, meatballs - and putting gloopy body lotion on. Oh, and swimming in the sea. You very quickly get used to it!

Practice with some soap or underwater - it shouldn't slip off easily anyway.

I never took mine off because I knew I would lose it somewhere. Although my fingers swell fairly often so I had to take it off then, but I'd fiddle with it on my little finger or put it somewhere safe (only at home just in case!) I asked DH to get me a chain for it and he did, so I wore it around my neck. It's still there now but I'll probably put it away soon because it's quite chunky.

My wedding ring is slightly bigger in size so the finger swelling isn't a problem, possibly my engagement ring was slightly too small. I am not worried about losing this one though because it's a cheap/temporary one while we wait for our proper ones to be made. I'll see in that time whether it falls off or not!

Mine (and wedding ring) comes off when I go to bed each night and on again when I get up in the morning. I wear both all the time apart from that (unless doing something where it would get very grubby like finger painting or making pastry).

I left mine on when baking too! I just washed my hands afterwards, it all came out.

I keep my engagement ring and wedding ring on all the time

I always take my engagement ring off on a nighttime, when I am showering, swimming and cleaning (chlorine and bleach are not good for diamonds) as I don't want to lose or damage it. I leave my wedding ring on all the time but I am not adverse to removing it. I took it off today to show it to my class as a size comparison for something.

Sometimes yes and sometimes no. Mostly no. Always wear it out of the house but take it off for showers and cleaning.

I never take mine off. I think you are more likely to loose it if you do take them on and off.

Congratulations!

I'm interested why people take them off for a shower!

I've only taken mine off to go into hospital, all pregnancy / child birth related. They stay on for all the messy jobs like cooking, DIY, horsey things and then I clean them with my electric toothbrush. With the plug in the sink of course. I designed my engagement ring with all my messy/ practical jobs in mind, it's a very sturdy setting with the diamond help close to my finger. It doesn't make the most of the diamond, which isn't the most sparkly cut anyway, but I love it.

I left mine off more than I had it on. the setting just caught on everything.. its not a little ring.

I only wear it now on going out occasions but i never take my wedding band off.

Mine always stays on in bed. The only time rings come off is if I am doing very messy cooking, like dough or making chicken burgers. I take them off to save picking bits of chicken mince out later!, then they go straight back on when i have clean hands.

I never take mine off .
One diamond fell out , and had to be replaced .
Claimed it on the house insurance .
(A small , not expensive engagement ring , been worn nearly 20 years )
My hand looked really strange with just a wedding ring on .

I'm glad I found this thread Smile, got engaged Christmas Eve, and generally keep some jewelery (thumb ring, necklace, bracelet) on permanently but normally take 'going out' rings off, I'm keeping my e ring on all the time at the mo, but I also have grubby horses to look after and do high impact, v sweaty gym classes, do people keep theirs on for gym things too? I want to, as I lose things, but worried I'll damage it in some way?!

Report
BertieBottsJustGotMarried · 22/01/2014 15:07

I think if I was going to take it off for gym classes, I'd put it into a zipped inside compartment of my bag or something, always the exact same place and never put it down somewhere else first. I'm guessing a chain wouldn't be comfortable to wear in a gym class?

Report
CooEeeEldridge · 22/01/2014 16:39

Thanks bertie, I do wear a chain so could put it on also. I'd worry about that too though I think! The pocket thing is an odd one as I always have different gym clothes / bags. I think I'm going to keep it on for now and try and surreptitiously look at other peoples left hands.

In the back of my mind I think I'm reluctant to take it off also as I can't stop admiring it and it cheers me up to see it Smile

If you're the type of person who removes jewellery before bed then yes.

I don't take any of my jewellery off so mine stays on!

When I was engaged I took the ring off every night. Once I forgot & smacked DH in the face with it (in my sleep!), and those diamonds are pretty sharp!

Now I'm married I don't take my wedding ring off though. It's smooth so no risk of injury!

I usually never take mine off except when decorating or making pastry or something else messy. I have them off at the moment, though because the knuckles on that hand have been really swollen and tender and wearing them actually hurts.

I sleep in mine, but I do take it off for showering, cleaning etc. It wasn't a very expensive ring so I worry I'll damage it if I get it wet!
