Anyone getting married this year?

Can we have a planning thread? I'm getting married in July, a pretty typical civil wedding in a city hotel with around 150 guests and I'm just starting to organise myself - pretty sure there are things I'm forgetting. Is anyone else in the same kind of position and do you want to talk plans with me? Please?

I can't get that link to work Heir .

I'm getting married on 6th July, loads left to do yet, but I do have my dress! Going for a fitting on 15th May. Need to figure out if I am going for a veil/tiara and what jewellery to wear.

We also bought our wedding rings this weekend, so that's another thing sorted. Used Tesco clubcard vouchers at Goldsmiths to pay for part of them, which was a help! We're trying to keep costs down as much as possible, but it's hard!

Scheherezade · 15/04/2013 13:35

I got a pure silk veil as I hated the crappy stiff nylon plastic ones in the bridal shop - cost the same as the cheapo nylon ones, the wedding dress shops just hike the prices up!

My tiara is sculpted from fresh flowers - blue forget me nots and pearls made by my florist :) it'll wilt as the day goes on, so I might get another one to change into.

Had such a nightmare re: rings. My engagement ring is a funny shape and I didn't like the idea of either a plain round band which leaves a big gap, or one to fit around it, because it went from being lovely delicate design to just a hunk of metal with rocks in. But the jeweller has come up with a solution this morning, they just emailed me! They've made a sample of a wedding band that is sort of point in a curvy "V" shape. So it fits around the engagement ring, without just looking like a hunk of metal I had to have altered to fit IYSWIM.

Scheherezade · 15/04/2013 13:35

jewellery - I have a double string pearl necklace and pearl stud earrings :)

HeirToTheIronThrone · 15/04/2013 14:01

Ugh, I am so rubbish at links! Try this ohmyhoney.co.uk/

louiespence · 16/04/2013 13:47

That worked Heir - dress looks lovely, are you going for a petticoat too?

Scheherezade - where did you buy your silk veil? I have tried some on in bridal shops, but would be interested in looking elsewhere as they do seem expensive for what they are.

I was also thinking of going for pearls for wedding jewellery, I quite like this set, but I'm not sure whether it would be too much, and I should go for something a bit simpler. Hard to know until you try it on with the dress isn't it?

This is the ring that I chose in the end. I went into the shop thinking I would just get a plain gold band, but it didn't look right with my engagement ring. Mine also has a small v-shape which sits with the engagement ring much better.

I have also started to embark on a pre-wedding beauty regime this week, as I realised last Saturday that it was only 12 weeks to go and I want to look my best on the day! So I have now started exfoliating; using eye cream; using cuticle oil; taking vitamins; trying the 5:2 diet to drop a few pounds, and going to the gym 3 times a week (ok, I haven't started that one yet!). Anyone else doing similar? Have I missed anything?

HeirToTheIronThrone · 16/04/2013 15:11

louie yes - probably ivory net with pink ribbon edging. And I have pearls too - my Nana's, which is lovely as she is too poorly to come to the wedding so this way she will be close to me.

As for a regime - have lost 1 stone since the start of the year low carbing, and will carry on doing so! Plus swimming and weights for my old lady arms. Attempting to look after my face a bit but it's pretty half-arsed... Oh, and have stopped biting my nails which I'm actually pretty proud of! So can just have a nice manicure rather than hideous expensive acrylic/gel nails.

Scheherezade · 16/04/2013 15:44

Beauty isn't my thing, I'd love to start some sort of regime, but no idea where to begin!!! I just wash with face wash and moisturise every day. doesn't even know what exfoliating or cuticle oil is

Scheherezade · 16/04/2013 15:46

For silk veils try As You Like It wedding veils (google it) they did a wonderful job for me. You can have firm or soft silk, I chose firm.

louiespence · 18/04/2013 12:13

1 stone is amazing Heir , I doubt I will get anywhere near that but 3 or 4lbs would be nice! Definitely starting gym regime next week! My arms are a bit flabby too, although I haven't got long now to make an improvement!

Beauty isn't really my thing either, which is why I thought I'd start making an effort! The lady who is doing my make-up suggested that I start using an exfoliator and eye cream, which apparently will make my skin nicer and makeup stay on better! And the lady doing my nails suggested the cuticle oil, I just rub it into my nails every night and it is supposed to make a difference! Not really sure if it will work, but all worth doing for 12 weeks!

Scheherezade · 22/04/2013 08:41

What exfoliator are you using?

9 weeks to go!!

HeirToTheIronThrone · 22/04/2013 14:18

I have been told to use an exfoliator too - currently using up some Lidl's own face scrub (classy!!) but might invest in something a bit nicer when that runs out...

Meringue33 · 23/04/2013 07:12

Ooh can I join the thread? Getting married in 2014 and loads of useful tips here. Love your dress Heir.

roughtyping · 23/04/2013 07:29

Heir that sounds so similar to my dress! :)

louiespence · 23/04/2013 19:05

I am using a cheap Oil of Olay exfoliator at the moment, which seems ok but I did have a sample sized microdermasion that I used up first, which did leave my face a lot softer, so I might invest in a tube when I get paid on Friday!

Still have loads of stuff to sort out and less than 11 weeks to do it! Haven't even sent out the evening invites yet, hopefully ten weeks will be enough notice. I have given my sister the task of investigating wedding readings and suggesting a few for me to choose from. Other things I need to sort out are underwear (any ideas where to go for good wedding underwear?); handbag; hair accessories; flowers (bouquet to carry and for tables); choosing menu and drinks package; how to dress room; wedding music to decide; etc etc etc. Its a bit overwhelming when I write it all down!

Hello Meringue tell us about your wedding plans! Have you got a venue/dress etc?

Scheherezade · 23/04/2013 19:27

louiespence - what kind of underwear are you after? Wonderbra ultimate is THE BEST strapless bra. I got a girdle from Kiss Me Deadly.

Debenhams have a very pretty range in right now by Janet Reger, but it's not practical - I don't think the bras are any good. Great for nightwear/just looking pretty though.

FraterculaArctica · 23/04/2013 19:30

Can I join? Getting married in October...

roughtyping · 23/04/2013 19:34

Agree with Sche re the wonderbra. I'm a 32ff and it is amazing. I have three Blush

louiespence · 24/04/2013 08:38

No idea what kind of underwear I am after really, pants and bra I guess? I have just been instructed that I have to have it before my first wedding dress fitting on 15th May, as they will put press studs on it to hold everything in place or something?

Off to look for the wonder bra ultimate then, sounds good to me, I will google kiss me deadly too, I have no idea what a girdle is !!!

Thanks for the tip Schezerade and roughtyping and hello Fratercula !

Scheherezade · 24/04/2013 10:29

My long line girdle

Scheherezade · 24/04/2013 10:29

Omg, I can't believe it's only two months to go.

Meringue33 · 24/04/2013 12:32

Hi Louie I haven't got anything sorted yet! Have seen our parish priest and he says our local church does not have any bookings yet for June or July next year, we have approached a country pub for quotes for the reception. Have only just started looking at dresses, but I have 2-3 stone of post-pregnancy weight to lose before I can start shopping in earnest!

louiespence · 26/04/2013 12:50

Well you have plenty of time to sort everything Meringue keep letting us know how you get on!

Payday for me today so wonderbra ordered (20% off in bluecross sale) and fancy exfoliator (£10 off today!) both ordered.

The girdle looks very vintage Scheherezade, I really like it! Only 2 months to go for you! Have you got everything sorted now? Or loads left to do like me???

Scheherezade · 26/04/2013 13:05

Everything that needs to be bought/ordered has been, its just working out the logistics! Haven't got drinks yet, going to Costco with MIL in a couple of weeks to get punch ingredients, and seeing a friend who owns a pub this weekend about getting wholesale wine/lager.

Need to let staff know what their Rota is, and work out how many tables we need, and where they're going. There's a dance group in the hall before our reception, so the instructors are going to kindly put the tables out for us, once we tell them where! So need to chat with the best man who is helping organising the logistics.

Pandemoniaa · 03/05/2013 00:34

I'm getting married in 3 weeks. That's three whole weeks in which to plan it!!

louiespence · 04/05/2013 07:20

Hi Pandemonia, what sort of wedding are you having? 3 weeks is not long, you must be excited! My date is 9 weeks today and I still have loads to do!

Have you sorted your logistics yet Schez?

This weekend we are going to sort out flowers; choose the menu; sort a table plan; buy shoes for the DS's 'pageboy' outfits. Not sure if it was on this thread or another one, but I think someone mentioned they had bought converse for pageboys, which I quite fancy, I like these as the red would go with our theme colour, but of course the only sizes not in stock are my sons' sizes - typical! Might have to make a trip to the shops with them this afternoon!

Oh and I also need an outfit for my hen do on 7th June! Might have to browse the s&b boards for ideas...

What's everyone else busy with?
