Anyone getting married this year?

Can we have a planning thread? I'm getting married in July, a pretty typical civil wedding in a city hotel with around 150 guests and I'm just starting to organise myself - pretty sure there are things I'm forgetting. Is anyone else in the same kind of position and do you want to talk plans with me? Please?

Ooh free website, tell me more please!

littlermissstan · 06/03/2013 10:46

You sign up here and then create your own website, it's an American company but I thought they had the nicest templates. You then get a unique url (mywedding.com/whatever) that you can put on the invites. All nice and easy, and we figured we didn't know anyone who isn't internet-savvy, as we've no grandparents coming or anything like that.

ProlificWillyBreeder · 06/03/2013 21:34

Ooh great! Thank you.
Now wedding photography if they aren't a friend what kind of figure are you looking at? It's over a grand here! Is that normal?

littlermissstan · 07/03/2013 09:25

I think that is pretty normal... All the quotes I had were between £1k and 2k, ours is ending up at £1300. But, she is amazing, we had a free pre-wedding shoot, and that covers all day from 10am, so will pay for almost 12 hours work plus all the editing etc.

ProlificWillyBreeder · 07/03/2013 13:22

Ooh that's really good.
Ok so that's kind of normal rate. I'm hoping to get a good deal.
I don't know if I want bridal preparation shots, feels a bit uncomfortable. Hmm.

roughtyping · 09/03/2013 06:36

Yes Prolific, seems 'average'. Ours is £950, she'll be with us as long as we want her there, includes an engagement shoot with one of the pictures used as a 'guest board' at the wedding for people to sign. No album included but all photos on disc and 5 framed photos. AND a lovely introductory pack with a wedding planner book and all info inside :) she is really fab.

TitHead · 09/03/2013 07:26

Anyone mind if I pop in here? Our wedding isn't till next september, but the ammount of wedding talk I do you would think it was next month.

TobyLerone · 10/03/2013 06:22

I got married in January. I wish I could do it again!

Also, if anyone in London/home counties needs a very reasonable and excellent photographer, I would happily recommend ours. She was amazing :)

ProlificWillyBreeder · 10/03/2013 21:18

Wow rough that sounds great.
Now wedding make up.., what did you do? What are you doing?
Prices here are about £135-£185!
Do I do this or go to the mac counter get make up and recreate? I can't get to a counter on the day

roughtyping · 10/03/2013 21:32

Prolific - just got an email from her last night saying another photographers volunteered to second shoot for free as he wants photos of my venue for portfolio Grin

My cousin's fiancée's twin is doing my make up, I need to provide make up though - think I will go to illamasqua and mac counters and get myself sorted!

ProlificWillyBreeder · 11/03/2013 09:01

Oh brilliant rough
I'm still not sure what to do £135 is a lot of money but I don't want to look crap either.

TobyLerone · 11/03/2013 09:23

You've got time to practice. I wouldn't spend £135 on having my make-up done Shock

My hairdresser came to my house on the morning of my wedding and did my hair and my make-up (and fixed my sister's hair and my other sister's dress and helped me get dressed!) for £80.

I would happily have done my own make-up, but she insisted and did a great job.

I'm sure you can find someone who'll do similar if you ask around.

littlermissstan · 11/03/2013 10:17

My tip is to find a local salon that offers make up as standard rather than an independent make up person. I am paying £140 for me plus three bridesmaids to have make up, including a trial for me, as I live at the end of the road from the place they are coming out for free, whereas with an independent artist you'd get charged for all their travel etc.

amazinglightshow · 11/03/2013 10:32

getting married in May, here. It'll be a really teeny registry office job with just immediate family, and lunch afterwards in a seaside restaturant. Hoping it'll be nice :) We're having a party for our wider family and friends later on in the summer. I'm far more nervous about that part!

BucketsnSpades · 11/03/2013 15:25

i've been looking at make up quotes too, i've found that the quotes at the upper end of the scale include things like semi perm lashes or other types of skin preparation which you just wouldn't get at a make up counter, on the other hand, the portfolio's only show before and after as no make up and with make up, most people look better after the application of make up so it's hard to see the true value of the make over.
I think i'll end up doing mine myself but it's a hard decision especially when you're forking out for pro photos. Incidentally, we met a great photographer at a recent wedding fair and we have managed to barter him down to 400, don't accept the first price is my nugget of advice.

TitHead · 12/03/2013 18:15

Oh pooh Buckets why did I not think to barter with photographer. We are marrying in cyprus and he came highly recommended by the wedding planner. I have seen his work though and it's amazing he is there all day we have the videographer also. We are having the photos presented in an A3 storybook and the disk with copyright and it's costing us £1,200 so I'm preety happy but wish I'd bartered now.

RatPants · 12/03/2013 22:48

Luckily I'm friends with a make up artist and a hairdresser so both are stepping in to make us presentable on the day!

Have been busy putting money down on bits and pieces this week and it's all feeling a lot closer and more real - there's still time to run, yes?!

I'm getting married 2 weeks today. Getting a little bit nervous!

HeirToTheIronThrone · 12/04/2013 13:57

I'm meeting my wedding dress maker tomorrow, and getting all measured and everything - eeek!

bulletwithbutterflywings · 12/04/2013 16:29

Heir where are you based? I'm looking for a dress maker near Watford, Cambridge or Braintree.

HeirToTheIronThrone · 12/04/2013 16:40

Bullet I live in Dorset but the dressmaker is in Brighton, making a day of it with my mum so doesn't seem too far to travel.

bulletwithbutterflywings · 12/04/2013 16:56

Thanks heir Brighton would be a mission for me! What sort of dress are you going for?

TheBrocoliIsStillRaw · 12/04/2013 16:56

How lovely Heir I went dress shopping last weekend for the first time. Still haven't found the right one yet though but got plenty of time.

Scheherezade · 12/04/2013 22:53

I'm getting married 29/06! It's a complete DIY wedding, I'm SAHM so am able to put a lot of time in to it, lots of cute little touches :)

HeirToTheIronThrone · 15/04/2013 11:19

It was lovely :) I went to a few bridal shops but nowhere had what I wanted, I had such a clear picture in my head so it was much better to get someone to make it to exactly that!

It is the Sylvia dress from [[http://ohmyhoney.co.uk/]] but I am having it a couple of inches longer and having sleeves made in the same sheer spotty fabric.
