Ok Dp and I have been together for almost 10 years, have 2 children (6 and 4). We want to get married but really dont like the whole centre of attention thing so want to do it as small and quiet as possible but I need some ideas of how to make things special too.

It will be at the registry office, but Im pretty sure Im not bothered about cars, clothes, bridesmaids etc etc My family wouldnt come (they live miles away and dont visit - Im on the stately homes thread) and its the same for Dp's family. We have a few 'fairweather' friends so wouldnt want to invite them anyway, it would literally be Dp and I, 2 witnesses and the children.

I was thinking we could go for a meal afterwards as a small group but dont really know what else/if anything. We wouldnt be having a honeymoon. I think we would need photos but I HATE having to stand there smiling so think Id prefer the kind of photos where it looks like they were taken in secret, if you get me. Ive no idea how to sort this Confused

Any ideas would be much appreciated!

It'll be a pleasure. Particularly as my lovely DP proposed outside a floodlit Bath Abbey last October. Was so romantic so now Bath holds a very special place in my heart !

Dillinger · 31/01/2012 09:59

Oh how romantic! I love the abbey its beautiful Smile

Melly, your link reminds me of my wedding day. I wore a black dress and my partner wore a white dress. We went really small - we didn't really want to marry but seemed to be forced into a corner for various reasons - just us, a best friend each and my dad in the registry office. We ordered a pizza and watched Casablanca in our flat with the witnesses.

lisad123 · 20/02/2012 19:02

We had me dh and 2 witnesses off the plane!! Was great Grin

SherlockHolmes · 20/02/2012 19:10

We had a secret wedding. Not even the DCs were there. Just me, DH and 1 old friend with his girlfriend. We went for coffee beforehand and were both nervous and excited. The registrar took a few photos for us, which were very natural and nice. We had a small party at home a month later so everyone could help us celebrate. Good luck whatever you choose - I wouldn't have done it any other way.

hazeyjane · 20/02/2012 19:23

dh and i went away for the weekend and got married, we found witnesses in the car park (registry office staff weren't allowed to do it), I was wearing jeans and a dress and a parka, we had some flowers made out of paper and straws, that our neices made, afterwards we sat by a river and drank a half bottle of champagne and ate brownies, then we had a walk and went for a pizza.

It was a perfect day.

good luck

Dillinger · 21/02/2012 13:10

Thankyou for the further replies!

I think the plan is to bugger off to one of Bath's lovely parks after the reg office for photos and a glass of something fizzy Grin Then we'll go home and I'll get my mates round. Im deciding between black heels or biker boots... I reckon they both go with the dress and the boots are cool Grin plus they'll be better for messing about in the park with the children.

Roll on may! I hate waiting

Glad to help, have a great day!
We're getting wed in 8 weeks time, registry office, 10 guests, pub lunch, then off to stay in a barn for 2 nights with our 4 closest friends and all our kids Grin

Dillinger · 23/02/2012 10:44

Sounds brilliant melly Grin I hope you have a fab day!

I need some ideas if anyone is able to help -

  1. Cheap but not too awful champagne/equiv - I literally know nothing but we'd like a couple of bottles of something for after and I dont really know what Im looking for so any recommendations would really help!
  1. Ideas for a few picky bits to eat in the park after - cant be too heavy, or bulky, or messy or in need of cutlery etc fussy, moi? Grin We wont be in the park long at all, mainly just for photos but think we should take a few things just to tide us all over as it will be around lunchtime.
  1. Id like a powder compact that has a mirror! Ive never had one nor do I own a handbag mirror so figured I could get a nice compact that would look better than me whipping out my Rimmel refill Blush and 'guessing' where abouts on my face Im looking shiny! I dont want to spend a huge amount but if the compact is refillable that would be great.
  1. I think Im going to need a good makeup/eyelid primer, and a mascara that will make the most of my crappy lashes. Id really appreciate recommendations here too.

Right Im off to google again, thanks in advance for any help it is sooo much appreciated xx

  1. Oh! Hair accessories - I like the flowery ones but so many look really crappy. If anyone knows of a good website that sells them I can go look.
Smile

I would contact a local art/film college and see if they have any students wanting the experience. My ds does this and is always snapping away at my friends and their kids and he has taken some corkers and people are delighted with them. He is very much ad hoc like you want so i am sure there will be others like him. We are in brighton if thats any help!

Dillinger · 23/02/2012 10:49

We're happy with the photographer but thankyou for your advice Smile

Blimey look at my list, I dont ask much do I? Blush Grin

Hello again!

So its just under a week to go, most things are sorted but Im going into town on saturday morning for last bits - e.g tights for dd, and I want to see if I can find something nice for my hair.

I dont know what to wear on my feet, still havent decided.

My plans for the sat afternoon (not home on the sunday) are to try and make my face look less shit. So tidying my eyebrows, may tint my eyelashes. Im very aware of my '11' lines though Sad Can anyone recommend a facemask or something that I could pick up in town to help me look a little better? Again though - I cant spend too much.

Any help/tricks/etc very much appreciated!
