In my part of the world, and according to ds1's school, just under three inches is significant, apparently.

I am hoping and praying there'll be nothing to prevent school opening tomorrow.....

Us too.It snowed all day yesterday, most of last night and all morning so far.It has iced over so badly that I can't get my car up the drive. The dd's school hasn't closed yet either.I can't work in this weather so am bored silly being stuck in the house.

petunia · 11/01/2010 11:01

FG- it snowed all day over your way! We didn't get any; just got a sleety mess (and we're getting that now!) and a lot melted. We did get a few hours worth of snow overnight but not enough to stop us getting out this morning.

FuriousGeorge · 11/01/2010 13:18

petunia, yes,it was proper snow, but it was landing on a nasty slushy mess,so not settling. It is still snowing/sleeting now and the rest is thawing.Yuck

I'm so bored that I have cleaned nearly all the house apart from the bedrooms, mended all the holey tights and gloves and sorted the recycling. My brain is thawing too.

petunia · 11/01/2010 14:01

Well, that's one clean house you'll have!
I hate that slush that's around. It's just as slippery as the snow/ice as well- I've had a couple of 'trying to brake/wheels lock and I slide forward' moments in the car, this morning!

FuriousGeorge · 11/01/2010 19:15

Yes,the roads are bad aren't they? I thought of you when I saw that bus crash on the news. Was it near you?

This is probably the only time in months I've had time to clean thoroughly during the week.Ironically,in a couple of months I'll be so busy that I won't have time to sit down, and I'll be wishing I had more time at home.

petunia · 11/01/2010 20:23

The bus crash was just round the corner from us. I saw 2 fire engines go past the house this morning and it wasn't until I saw one leave this afternoon (after it had been on the lunchtime news), that I 'twigged' that they must have been called to the crash. Everyone had a lucky escape there.

FuriousGeorge · 11/01/2010 20:48

They were very lucky.I couldn't believe how bad the roads there were. For some reason I thought they may have been cleared/gritted.

petunia · 11/01/2010 22:40

That bit of the estate isn't really designed to have buses going round there, especially not 'double decker' ones; the roads are too narrow. They've only been running a service round that bit since August 2006 and you'd think as it was now a 'bus route' it would be gritted but not many roads on our estate (if any at all) are. To give the bus company credit though, I noticed when we had the bad weather in February last year and when it snowed last week, they stopped running the service round that bit as they thought it was too dangerous. They probably thought it was safe today and found out the hard way that it wasn't. It's lucky that estate children were in school by the time it happened. Dread to think what might have happened if it had been an hour or so earlier, when children would have been walking to school.
