Why are temperatures so cold in Scotland

Right now in Stirling it is overcast and 15’. My house is cold I am wearing cashmere and contemplating putting on the heating. It’s been like this for weeks bar a few days where it was sunny and 21. In the last 3 days we have been subjected to epic downpours.

Why is Scotlands weather in summer so different to England and Wales. I mean geographically what causes the weather to be different. Gulf Stream, mountains?

It seems as climate change is increasing temperatures in the south of Britain in the north they are decreasing. I can’t believe the difference. On Monday London is forecast as 31 and sunny. Manchester 28 and sunny. Stirling16 and heavy rain.

Im.very very near you and I have a t shirt on . It is a bit breezy but I don't think it is wooly weather yet, the reason Scotland is so cold is because we are North . Saying this i am heading to town and considering a rain jacket.

I put my Big Jumper on yesterday and was still cold, until the sun came out then I was too hot. It's a cold wind. I'm seriously considering waking my woolly hat from its summer slumbers.

I mean silver linnings and all that we are lighter longer than London.

It hasn't been all that warm in Cornwall recently - I looked it up the other day because a relative is currently on holiday there.

We've just come back from Skye and the weather was great! T-shirts all week

I’m delighted. Even more delighted for rain. Not just for me but for the countryside and for those in the Cairngorms.

I’m off nights and it is comfortable enough to nap. 16 degrees and even with a wee bit rain, warm enough for shirt sleeves.

Cold to me is below -5. I do run hot though. My sibling has the heating on 🤷🏽‍♀️

I live much further north in Sweden but we have significantly warmer and drier summers than Scotland. The reason isn't how far north it is, but due its maritime climate with cold winds coming in from the Atlantic Ocean. This is also why it's often cloudy and rainy there.

18 degrees and drizzly in Edinburgh, with a bit of a breeze. This is my kind of weather, I love it!

I think the normal average for Stirling would be 17 / so 15 isn’t that cold

mid term the uk may get cooler before it gets hotter - depend on ocean flows I think

it’s way better cool than the heat of the south

My mum is in NW coast of Ireland and says exactly the same! It’s raining every day and about 15 degrees

It absolutely has been warm in Cornwall 🤣! Night time has been cool though. Down to 9c the other night.

Not below 20c by day in a good 8 weeks I'd say, it was also 32c in my back garden today.

I'm in Fife. Yes it's been rainy the last few days but we have had weeks with little rainfall and the river levels here are very low. The rain is very welcome.

temperature is relative though. I'm certainly not feeling cold. Been in Edinburgh today - just a t shirt didn't need a jumper etc. I don't feel cold easily though - but found it very muggy today

Have you just moved here? This is normal summer weather for Scotland. Nicer today cos the kids are back at school, happens every year!

East Anglia is frazzled to a crisp. Currently contemplating a move to Scotland.

We finish up at the end of July, return date is earlier than usual though, my kids usually go back around 18/8, but summer holidays often vary between 6/7 weeks, and this year it’s 6.

OP I do feel for you, it sounds rubbish. Every time we watch the weather on TV. I jokingly ask Hubby if he fancies a fortnight in the Outer Hebrides!
It's been an absolutely scorching summer here in the Midlands, way too hot and dry. We've been increasing the profits of M and S by wandering around their store. I jokingly said to an assistant yesterday that it didn't feel so cool in there, she said that they had to change the temperature control as it was costing a fortune!
I do remember one holiday years ago on the Scottish NW coast, where it was clear blue sky and at least 25°C every day. At the same time England's south West had torrential rain and floods.
