Couldn't see a thread about this.

BBC can't make up its mind, sometimes it's headline news, sometimes it isn't.

Due to hit Scotland, northern England, Wales and Northern Ireland tomorrow with winds up to 85mph!

Gusty but not too bad in Central Scotland. DS just set off for Edinburgh which I'm a bit worried about but he has two shows to play in the Fringe so no choice.

Ah nooooo poor tree 😢

I know! 😭 We are going to try and replant it as soon as the storm is over

I’m east coast of Northern Ireland and it’s fantastic clear blue skies with biiiiiig gusts of wind. A few really heavy downpours earlier this morning.

Same here in Fife, it looks like a lovely day, if you just look up at the sky.

Yes, the clear blue skies but ferocious winds are most disconcerting. I suppose that's because most storms are in late Autumn / Winter / Early Spring.

We've seen what we thought was a fallen tree in a neighbours garden, but it turned out to be an enormous branch from another (nearby) tree. Someone just drove down the street with a smashed windscreen so somwthing must have hit them. The small copse of Horse Chestnut trees at the end of the road have also shed their entire fruits. Hundreds of them all over the ground. Never seen anything like it in the 45 years I've lived in the area.

I almost took a photo of one of my laden pear trees last night, but didn't as I actually thought it would be OK. There are now no pears left on it.

Thankfully no damage so far to note, but this has definitely been scary and I've never experienced a storm like this in early August in all my 54 years.

Hope everyone is safe.

Wow sorry to hear about your pear crop @RainbowZebraWarrior that all sounds wild!

Appreciate you filling us all in, and very glad to read that you're ok. Hope everyone else is too.

It had died down in Cumbria yesterday , I went out for my monthly hobby meet up , driving all ok there and back , got home at 9.30 pm all calm.
It's getting windy again this morning after heavy rain overnight .
A few small branches off the trees , nothing major .

musicalfrog · 05/08/2025 08:43

Glad you're ok @Iclyn

I read about motor homes toppling over in the Scottish Isles. Terrifying! It was obviously much worse further north.

It was still windy here yesterday, my washing dried in under an hour. I was quite relieved it was still there when I took it in. Our local festival was cancelled on Monday but back on yesterday.

BlackeyedSusan · 06/08/2025 10:03

S Wales wasn't too bad thankfully. The worst we had was leaves off the palm tree scattered all over the garden.

May have lost a fruit crop in e mids. But will have to drive up and check when we go home. No-one has rung from home so presuming the rooves are still on. (Flat/garage)
